Vista. Service Pack 1, Vista continues to indicate needs to update to SP1. It updates successfully and again indicates must update. SP2 indicates cant update until sp1 installed. View this thread

I am trying to install the Office 2013 Pro evaluation proggie, and once downloaded, when I press to install, all that opens is my copy of Corel Paintshop ProX5, and an error message in PaintShopPro saying "Unable to open the file. Please verify the file is valid " . I also notice that the downloaded programme appears to have an .img ending...this is the download details OfficeProfessionalPlus_x64_en-us.img Anyone any ideas please as I'd really like to try the new Office 2013 before deciding whether or not I want to buy it. ~ andy View this thread

I'm trying to use Windows Update on a windows 2003 Standard server SP2. I am unable to install ANY Security update - even one at a time. Update.exe uses almost all of the CPU, while LSASS.EXE utilizes pretty much the remainder. I've tried the MS FIXIT for this solution. It tells me it discovered and fixed &quotWindows Update Components&quot, but it still doesn't work. I run the FIXIT again, and it finds the same problem and tells me it is fixed, ad infinitum. All non-&quotSecurity&quot updates are installed successfully. View this thread

I have been trying since 14 March to complete this Update. System Win7 Ultimate with 'IE 10 for Win 7' added, though I generally used Chrome Version 25.0.1364.172 m as default browser.I've tried Auto &amp Manual, Total of 12 Failures since. Update correctly downloads, then Updates (it says successfully) BUT on required Restart, Configuration works correctly on closing down, but then on start-up Configuration gets to about 35% plus/minus and Fails, and Reverts back to previous state and five minutes later tells me I need to download &amp install an Important Update My security is Windows Defender &amp Emsisoft Anti-Malware and I also use Ad Muncher. I've tried disabling both, but still no success. This AM Emsisoft put through an Update to v7.0.0.21 part of which they said was to "Service restart behaviour changed as required by Microsoft for certification." I tried to Update KB2807986 after restarting, after that Emsisoft Update, but MS Update still failed. Is this a generic problem? Suggests for solution welcomed. View this thread

Sony VAIO laptop running Windows 7 Home Premium. HDD was replaced with SSD some time ago with the system running perfectly. The SSD was running out of space, so I decided to replace it with a WD 750GB HDD. I used the Windows Backup system image tool to create a system image and a system repair disk. Replaced the SSD with the new HDD, booted with the system repair disk and restored the system image onto the new HDD. All seems to work well, except for Windows Update, Upon launching Windows Update after the system restore the shield is red instead of green, even though the settings are "Install updates automatically (recommended)", as they were prior to the system backup and restore. Upon clicking the "Check for Updates" button, a dialog pops up that says "Windows Update cannot currently check for updates, because the service is not running. You may need to restart your computer". A check in the Services console shows that the Windows Update service is started, as are all its dependencies. The Fixit tool seems to think that Windows Update is fine. I've tried deleting various Windows Update reg keys and re-running the Fixit tool, but without success. I've tried stopping and restarting all of the related services, rebooting, etc. I've also tried running the Acronis bare metal backup and restore, with exactly the same results--a red shield in Windows Update, same behaviours as with the Windows system backup and restore. Hello, thanks for taking time to help me. Windows XP Pro SP3. I keep getting a blue screen error, it shows the above mentioned file as the culprit, (page in non-page). I used device manager to update the driver (it belongs to my wireless USB on my old computer that connects it wirelessly to my modem), it did do an update, but I still get the blue screen error. What will happen if I uninstall this driver, unplug the wireless USB and plug it back in again? Will it just find the update it already did? Do I need to get with my service provider for an original driver file? This happened after the recent March Updates. Nothing else has changed, except an update to Adobe Reader. I am about ready to turn this old spare computer into extra storage, it is really a headache -)) By the way, I do have restore points, and a backup, anybody know how I can pull just this driver from the backup? I would hate to do 2 months worth of updates just to fix this. THANKS! View this thread

I got a message that Defender was out of date. Tried to run update but got connectivity message. Tried to run windows update and system stalls out every time. Ran troubleshooter two times. Each found and fixed errors, but still stalls out. Troubleshooter said "stopping Bit service" each time. I can connect to network and Internet. No network issues. View this thread

I have for more than 3 yrs had my current computer running Windows 7 : 64 bit operating system and wirelessly connecting it to my Brother Printer DCP340CW. However, the Windows Firewall has suddenly stopped my computer talking to the printer. If I turn the firewall off I am able to print successfully. I have checked the box is still ticked in the Firewall security to let the Brother Printer through and it is. Any ideas please would be appreciated. Many thanks. View the thread

My Windows 7 Pro laptop has SP1 installed, but the KB976932 Windows update does not list in Update History, and IE 9 and 10 will not install properly. I can not uninstall SP1 in oreder to re-install SP1 for IE9 or 10 to install. View this thread

First, the environment: Windows 7 Professional 64-bit and IE 9.0.8112.16421 Dell Latitude E6500 with Intel P8600, 4 GB RAM, Nvidia Quatro NVS160M I have tried installing KB2807986 without success via Windows Update -- first as an automatic update, the second time as a "download and notify" update. In both cases, the computer will hang on the update's restart by freezing at the "Preparing to configure Windows.Do not turn off your computer." screen indefinitely. Both times, att this point I've needed to power off the machine, restart in Safe Mode, and delete the install via System Restore. I've run CHKDSK, of course, and found no errors. I've also unplugged all external devices. No luck. Since this is a pretty serious Security Update, is there a workaround? Thanks. View this thread
