These two apps although they start, will NOT show any videos (I didn't try the music), they just spin dots and say starting.Today there was 2 updates, one for each in the store. I did the update but they failed with the subject error.Many people seem to get this error in many versions of Windows. Scoured all the ones I saw that were recent.One I saw sort of indicated that I had a virus, and that MSERT.EXE should be run. It ran OK?Another suggested deleting the package folder under USERSuseridAPPDATALOCALPACKAGES, but that didn't help?Another 'suggests' permissions are wrong, but I can't find specifically what it should be?I've had problems with other apps as well in the past. After install (Upgrade of system from W7) all apps were working. I now also have a problem with USA Today that doesn't connect. Others too... but I've deleted them, such as Weather but I'm using the WeatherBug as a replacement.One thing I did find, at one point I had to do a REFRESH as a test, and everything appeared to work after that. However, I just did a random check. After that I restored my SAVED image of the C: drive. At that point they did NOT work?Figuring this had to be an access/permissions problem I started looking at that. I had TAKEN OWNERSHIP for my UserID that is part of the Administrator's group. Possibly that was a problem, I think as the old permissions were for NT SERVICETrustedInstaller so I changed drive ownership to that. It didn't change anything, even after a re-boot, so I took ownership again.I've got another W8 computer here that DOES work? I've been comparing stuff between the two, but really can't see differences, so I'm probably looking in the wrong places?I've tried the MS Fix app and troubleshooter, nothing helps.I am running an ATI HD4000 series video card with the ATI 13.1 drivers. 12.8 are the initial ATI drivers and I have seen some indication that the 13.1 drivers are problematic for videos on the Start Screen, but the answer was to revert back to the 12.8 drivers but that also didn't help?Any suggestions? about 2 years ago I bought a PC. It has been running for the last 2 years with no problems. Until today...suddenly my genuine copy has become not genuine...fine.. chatted with support and was told my copy was a MSDN copy and was to be used by developers only. But my copy on the box says OEM. It a single CD with the hologram circling it. back of the CD around the inner circle says Puerto Rico. And the box says Made in Singapore... it all looks genuine.... Microsoft security essentials is turned off about half of the time when I boot up my computer. I thought it was due to the scheduled scans, which I usually do manually since I shut my computer off when I'm not using it. When I went to make changes to the scan schedule and click on save I get this error message and the changes do not take effect. View this thread

I'm running Vista Business on a Sony laptop. Windows update notifies important updates, including SP1, which I installed, BUT, shortly afterwards Update says updates are available and it includes SP1 again, despite it showing in Downloaded Update list. This has occurred 5 times now! My Norton Antivirus won't instal as it says the software is incompatble with the OS as it isn't running SP1?? Anyone any ideas please? Thanks. View this thread

Windows Media Player version 11.0.6001.7010 running with Vista. Having problems with auto sync backup of music. Backup only taking across those songs/albums which also appear in Personal Playlists. Ignores all the rest of the music/media showing in Windows Media Player. Also, where there are additional tracks from the same album which do not appear in a Personal Playlist, it ignores these additional tracks (i.e. it'll take 2 from an album but ignore the other 10). Has only started to happen in last 2-3 weeks. Previously, when I set up Sync Partnership, there were options in the "Sync Playlists" view on Device Set Up, such as "All Music" "All Pictures" "5* rated music" etc etc. None of these now showing as available. Hi If there's one single factor about Windows 8 I absolutely dread, it is the automated update facility! Why does Windows persistently try to install updates for Office 2010 32 bit version when I am - was - running the 64 bit version? Conversely, now I also have Office 365 loaded, it won't upgrade that at all. Furthermore, Office 365 has reverted to the 32 bit version - since I don't believe I was given the option on download. And why - when it is failing to install the upgrade, does it persist in trying?!?! If I leave the close down screen alone as instructed, it can sit there for hours (literally 24 hours on a broadband connection!) before I eventually have to give up and turn the machine off. I truly truly love Microsoft and all it has achieved, but I can waste hours and days on stupid trivial little things like this! Can anyone please help me to stop this happening? Well at first I resumed my computer (as it was sleeping) and I went on steam. I bought a new game and was doing some stuff then I got BSoD. then I rebooted and got it again and again and again and again. So I started troubleshooting and I tried updating my driver but it said I was unable to do it for whatever reason so I tried installing the latest windows updates that I just tossed aside as I thought they were useless (they were). Then I came across this page http://support.microsoft.com/kb/978982/en-us this seemed like it would fix my problem but when I tried to install it it said error 0x800706be blah blah blah (other error like stuffs) then I thought I found the fix for this and then that wouldnt install so I found the fix for that and then it went like that till I ended up at a page about mp3 playlists or something. So does anyone know what I might be able to do because I can't use my computer at the moment as it keeps BSoDing? View this thread

Hi, I'm running Windows XP, and in the "My Pictures" folder, I have over 17,000 files. It keeps screwing up on me however. One minute the names of the files are underneath them, the next, they are all gone. I read Zack's answer as to how to fix this by right-clicking on a blank area of the screen and disabling the hide option. But when I do it and go to the view tab he talks about, there isn't a hide file function to begin with! This is really weird. It comes and goes and I'd like to stop it for good.
