We have a windows server 2008 enterprise installation and we are wanting to install remote desktop services so that multiple accounts can terminal into it. Ive seen that you can install remote desktop services with windows server 2008 R2. It doesnt appear to be an option with 2008 enterprise. Can you install remote desktop services on plain enterprise. If not, is there any way to get terminal server ability on 2008 server enterprise.

Hey folks - I've followed the various guides on how to get a batch file to run automatically upon Windows 2008 startup (vs. user login). The batch file I've written is really simple: @echo off net use z: \\server.fqdn\share_name passwd /user:username It sort-of works. Once the machine boots, I open the Windows Explorer, and I see the drive mapped but "Disconnected" with a big red X next to it. If I click on the drive, I can see its contents. If I try to right-click and disconnect it, no luck. It tells me the path doesn't exist. I get a similar error if I try to remove it using "net delete". So I'm doing something wrong, I'm just not sure where to loo…

Setting up a small home network and just installed Server 2008 on a Dell GX280, P4 2.8 Ghz, 3 GB RAM. I have 2 harddrives, both 2 TB WD20EARS, relatively new and newly formatted. I know this isn't the typical hardware for a server, but I'm basically just looking for it to manage a domain, do my DNS and DHCP, and act as a file server. Working directly on the server goes ok, but trying to copy to/from it over the network is extremely slow. (All my clients are running windows 7) I'm only getting transfer rates of 1-2 MB/s. I can download files from the internet faster, in some cases. I'm not quite sure what to start looking at to troubleshoot. I realize with this …

Sorry if i kind of flood this section, but i really need help. Anyway, I was able to connect my PHP files to the server, but the thing is those leads to the ASP pages we had, and there's an error when we're trying to load the ASP page. I tried replacing the complicated ASP script with a simple response.write script to see if ASP as a whole is the problem, but it loads the response.write script. I tried adding to that script by including "", and to my shock, the page was back to giving out the "500 - Internal Server Error". Meaning this is a problem with the include script Can anyone please help me out? How do I fix this? I really appreciate all the help I can get…

Quick, but important question. Windows Web Server 2008 R2 is told to be LIMITED by licensing to only web application, bla bla bla... Does this apply only to MICROSOFT software (limitation to roles and stuff)? Or A L L software? (including non-microsoft one?) (need to decide if to buy it or not) 1) I mean if I have a subversion (apache httpd based) server on it, it would be illegal? 2) What about an automatic build system (a couple of powershell scripts) using MSBuild (that output to a IIS folder)? 3) What about a TCP Server (opened to the internet)? (non-microsoft, but homebrew made by me?) Thank you, feal87

I have used Office 2007 for years at home and at work. All of a sudden it is not responding or very slowly (15 minutes or more). I assume it might be some automatic update possibly. I have Windows XP. What can I do, I cannot function like this at my busy job.

Hi, I am currently reviewing Disaster recovery processes and backup servers. I am looking at putting a mirrored copy of our DC off site at another office. If i connect the DC up on the existing infrastructure at the other office, will this cause networking issues for them? I would assign it a new IP address etc but would hope to leave all other settings on the server as they are (if possible) We are running SBS2008 at present, and would be using backupassist to replicate the data off site to the backup server. Is this something fairly straight forward to implement? I have a gerneral Idea of how this should be done, and what needs to be implemented. I just thought…

Alright so let me preface this by saying I don't know a whole lot about computers... So I'm looking at buying a new server with Windows Server 2008 SP2 on it. I absolutely have to have a dual monitor setup for one of the programs I run but according to Dell & Hp tech support they don't make a server with dual monitor capability out of the box. One of their guys suggested an external USB video card, but I'm having trouble finding one that supports Server 2008. I know there is software for dual screen capability on remote terminals...but is there anyway to have dual monitors when I'm working on the server?? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I just installed Windows Server 2008 Enterprise and I cannot connect to the internet. It says it has issues with "realtek rtl8101 family driver Family PCI-E Fast Ethernet NIC (NDIS 6.0)". I downloaded the drivers from the main Realtek site and places it in \system 32\drivers and it did not work. I am using a Compaq Presario CQ62 (yes yes, I am using a laptop, I find it more convenient this way). Thanks in advance! Edit: Also wanna point out that when the Ethernet cable is plugged in during startup and until windows starts to really turn on (I have a dual boot) the little Ethernet connected light is on

What I initially want to do is this : WS2K8 to handle the internet connection and share it with the clients Clients to have a "drive" on the server where all documents are stored Laptop to be able to "tunnel" in These requirements will no doubt evolve as the server gets up and running and my ambition outstrips my ability! :) The server has two ethernet cards installed one…

Guys I am trying to find a way to PXE boot to a live OS. Not an install. My question is can i create a .wim of a Windows 2008 server and set up another server to allow me to boot from it over the network using WDS. I know WDS is designed for distributing windows installation images accross a network, but it seems it should work with any bootable .wim. The end product im trying to create is storing 1 .wim on the server and having two other servers boot from that .wim using WDS and PXE

it appears possible to setup a terminal server user with indefinite disconnect capability so that an application can be installed on the TServer and kept running while still allowing the individual the capability to go in and out of the Terminal Server to monitor the application? If so, are there any issues or cautions?

I rent one server running Server 2008 Standard, and I need to block a few people who seem intent on trying to disrupt it. Our community uses this server for hosting dedicated gaming servers. There is a group of "hackers" who use an Asian character to crash players games when the hacker joins the server. I've blocked their IP's through the IPSec tool, but we all know it is very easy to get a new IP. If I was able to obtain the MAC address from the company I rent from, is there a way I can block their MAC, instead of just their IP? I've tried searching for a way on Google, but all the results come back for Apple's Mac computers! Much thanks, Randall

I uninstalled Windows 2008 SP2 to get around an issue with an ERP database. Turns out it wasn't SP2, it was something else. Now I get an error code 8000FFFF when trying to re-apply SP2. I have tried every fix I can find related to the error code. Is there a for sure fix here? I have an Acronis image of my server before I did the updates. Is restoring the Windows directory all I need to do to get the server back to a pre SP2 state? Or do I need to restore additional folders? Do I need to restore the entire volume? Need help badly! So i set up a VM DNS and a VM RDS server. I went through all the setup as it seem to work ok. Even read an artical by Microsoft to make my user on my RDS server. Mind that i am a noobe to RDS and the RDS server is not currently on the domain as i get some error about the account after reboot and have to reinstall the OS. I am still looking for a fix on Microsoft's site on this. What i am having trouble with is after i made a username (Russell) in the Web-access section of Computer Management and i go to a client and type in (RDSserverIP)/rdweb i pull up the Windows Server 2008 R2 login page and use the account made (Russell) and achieve a successful login. However no apps…

First, hello and happy New Year Everyone. Hope you can help. Out of the blue the audio on my system is stuttering terribly. Been searching for a solution for hours. Tried Media player, awful. Tried Realplayer, awful. Microsoft said I needed (Mats_Run.AudioPlayback) to fix it (guess it recognised the problem (?) I downloaded that but when I went to install it said I needed .Net Framework first (dotNetFx40_Full_setup) After a couple hoursDLing that and installing it I went back to Fix it and it just repeated that I needed to install Net Framework first. I installed version 4. It is not seeing it. I'm at a dead end. I don't know what else to do…

Hi I am using windows 7 with a bespoke application which uses .net framework 3.5.1 the problem is that of late (since 04/10/11) I can only open the application once and then I have to re-set the windows features framework afresh in order to get the application to work properly again. i.e. I open the application once close it re-open it and sure enough there are no fonts displayed against the icons and the functionality is all but gone and te application freezes invariably. But by setting the windows feature's framework 3.5.1 to be un-ticked re-boot and then re-set the framework the application works as it should .... unitll I close it and teh cycle of hell begins all o…

Hi all, In Windows 2003, we used the 'ntrights.exe' tool (part of the MS 2003 Resource Toolkit). With Windows 2008, there is no Resource Toolkit anymore, and no more ntrights.exe. Is there an equivalent way to do this in Windows 2008 R2? We used to do: ntrights.exe -u %USER% +r SeServiceLogonRight Any hints or suggestions appreciated. Thanks!

Hi Guys, I have installed SBS2008 on some basic workstation hardware to save on costs (reliability is not important). Driver support seems OK except for video. Does anyone know of a server 2008 driver that might support ATI HD3200 onboard video. The motherboard is an ASUS M4A78-VM. Please let me know if this is a pipedream and or if properly functioning video drivers are even important for a basic file server / exchange set up. Thanks in advance Matt

I just upgraded (or re-installed) my olde goode 2003 server to 2008 R2, and everything seems to be quite OK now. But, for some reason I just cannot get any connection to my server outside from my D-Link firewall. I've been using some services like SVN, FTP, Tversity and Remote Desktop thru my firewall with my 2003 server, and everything worked just fine. After the 2008 R2 installation everything is working OK inside my own network, but I cannot get any connections from internet to my new server. List of things I already did: - all ports are forwarded from D-Link just like before, and I checked that the port numbers are OK - checked that all the services are allowed on…
