Hello, I'd like to block on Windows Server 2008 TCP Port 80 so internet access is not possible. But I have a list with a few IP addresses which are allowed to use PORT 80, so it's actually blocked for everyone, except for the people that are listed in a list. I would also like create a webpage (.html) for the people that are not allowed to use PORT 80. How can I do this? Thanks in advance, Jorgoo

I have a small server 2008 R2 setup in a non-production environment to test and learn about the OS itself and eventually other applications and services. I have been trying for about the last week to install a second DC. Every time I try do this, I run dcpromo.exe and it says this exactly: "This computer is already an Active Directory domain controller. You can use this wizard to uninstall Active Directory Domain Services on this server" This is the only option I am given. All of the texts I read say to run dcpromo.exe and just 'install another DC' (spoken sarcastically because of the issues I am currently having) for fault tolerance and the like, but I simply…

After installing Office 2007 (including Outlook 2007) on a Windows 2008 server standard, the preview handler of Outlook e-mail messages is not working in the Explorer (extension .msg). How can I enable or register this to work. I thought that this would work automatically in Windows 2008 (as it does in Windows Vista and Windows 7). I've already tried to copy registry entries from a Vista System, but without result (the only result was that the preview pane gives a blanc page, without the message 'No Preview available') Does anyone know how to get .msg previewing in Explorer? Ria

Hi all, I have a Windows 2008 server, latest updates are installed 2 weeks ago, and it's running as a virtual on a Hyper-V host running 2008R2. The server is a webserver, but runs some scheduled tasks too. Since about one month, all scheduled tasks suddenly stop getting fired at sunday-night, sometimes around 0700pm, sometimes around 1100pm local time. I can't find anything in the event-logs, I can only determine the time because I can see log-entries from a batch that runs every 3 minutes and suddenly stops. Removing and recreating the tasks doesn't work, but after a server-reboot they run again. Happened again yesterday-night, I don't know what to do. The Task Schedu…

Gents, I've installed Routing & Remote Access Role and all the other bits inc Network Policy Server. I am using an XP servcie PK3 Laptop with a Vodaphone Mobile Connect Internet connection to test dialing into my Server 2008 R2 which is on Virmin Business Account. When I dial up on XP machine to use VPN, it connects fine. I can ping all the machine's IP addresses located on my server 2008 LAN network. If i try and access any of the remote network folders such as typing in \\Sever\c or even just \\Server (server is name of my 2008 R2 machine) then I get bloddy long pause and eventually an error window saying the 'specified network name is no longer available' …

hi, I have configured a vpn server using RRAS and I give internet access to clients using NAT. I have 10 public IP addresses and I added them to address pool in NAT. I want these 10 IPs spread over 100 clients randomly. but the problem is that all clients get only one of these IP addresses and the rest remain unused. I tried adding all IPs to TCP/IPv4 as extra ip without any success. should I do anything else to solve this issue? I would appreciate your help Regards

hi, in windows 2008 R2 firewall should effect RRAS connections too, right? When I add a rule say closing port 443, it is closed in the server but when users connect using pptp protocol (through RRAS) their 443 port is open. should I do anything else so firewall effects RRAS ? Regards

Hi all, We've just migrated from Srv 2k3 x86 to Srv 2k8 x64. All users are connected via TS. We have a print server that is running Srv 2k3. Now, when users connect to the new TS, they can't add any printer because of the driver is not correct (no x64 drivers). That's ok... but here's the point: every user have about 7 printers (default XPS, NETWORK PRINTER ON PRINT SERVER, ...) that are mapped and are working, after the printer's name I have something like "(redirected 3)"! So, I tried to add THE SAME NETWORK PRINTER using the wizard and I stuck on the problem regarding driver compatibility. What I want to know is: WHERE IS SPECIFIED that at user logon window mu…

I have a very strange issue. We have inherited the support of a Windows Server 2008 R2 environment from a now defunct Tech Services company. The environment includes an RDP Member Server and 2 DC's. The issue is all of the Existing accounts work fine, but when we create a New User account and give them all the same permissions as an Existing user, while logging in through Remote Desktop this new user gets immediately logged off. I open a Remote Desktop Session from any remote machine (Win7, XP or Vista), get the Login screen, you See the "Welcome" Screen, followed by "Applying User Settings" then "Logging Off" shows up on the screen and I get kicked out. I next tried…

Until a week ago the only pictures that were listed as an option to be used for the Desktop Display were the default listing in the Windows Wallpaper folder. Now all of the thousands of photos in the "My Pictures" folder are loaded when I open "Properties" and click on "Desktop". It takes several minutes to load and makes it all but impossible to find a display picture. Only the default pictures still show in the Windows Wallpaper folder. How do you remove the "My Pictures" photos from the Desktop Display Properties and get back to only those choices listed in the Wallpaper folder? This is obviously caused by some glitch in XP as others have this same proble…
