Hi Guys, I am having this issue with UAC on a windows server 2008 workgroup servers. I am trying to access administrative shares on this workgroup machines but it won't allow me although I am already in an admin group. I know this is caused by UAC since the administrator built-in ID works.I have this following questions needed for help 1) How come UAC blocks workgroup servers but not those joined domain? Even if our DC is Windows Server 2008, should the UAC be blocking those Windows 2008 servers parked under this Domain Controller? Apparently Windows 2008 domain servers are working fine accessing the administrative shares. 2) By default, when Microsoft commission…

I have updated one (1) of three (3) Active Directory servers to 2008 from 2003 with hardly any problems or glitches. (The other (2) AD server will be updates in the next week or so.) One of the problems that I am experiencing is that the domain computers at the (3) sites are not showing up in Network Places. All the domain computers show at their sites, but nowhere else. In other words Site-1 domain computers can be seen, but not Site-2. Site-2 cannot see Site-1 or Site-3 etc. Is there a setting to allow the entire domain computer to been seen across the board. This problem did not exist till I went from 2003 AD to 2008 AD at Site-1.

OS: Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 Role: RRAS NIC: 1 Domain: No (Standalone) Hello I have searched around the net for other users who have had similar issues as I am experiencing now, but I was unable to gather the actual resolutions to the problems and apply them to mine. So here I go. I can successfully establish VPN connections but once the connection is established I am unable to ping anything in the internal LAN, that includes the gateway and the VPN server both by DNS or by IP. I have noticed that once a VPN connection is established in ipconfig there is no gateway retrieved, but there is a correct IP address set on the same subnet as the router and ot…

Hello, I'm running Windows Server 2008 R2. Recently, apparently after installing some automatic updates when the server shutdown unexpectedly several odd errors occurred on the machine. First to be noticed was that faxes were no longer being received. Upon further checking, the fax service had stopped working, and could not be restarted, as had the Windows Event Log. After searching for a long time, a solution was found here: http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/forums/en-US/windowscompatibility/thread/c75ae899-d05b-411d-a7f2-00fdd33b8589/ The subinacl.exe fix described in the post did not work, but the deleting of a corrupted windows log folder did, and the event log a…

Hello I got Windows Server 2008 R2 as part of the Dreamspark program and trying to make it into a normal PC. So far I done that but just have a few problems. In dxdiag my graphics card has 1Gb dedicated plus 756Mb shared. I only got 2 Gb of RAM and don't want it being used by the graphics card as 1 Gb is plenty. What services do I not need as I'm not running a server? When I click the icons in the task bar they used to light up a little and then the program would load. It works fine in Admin account but not in a limited account the icons do not light up. E.g. click Firefox and the Firefox icon on the task bar lights up orange and then dims to normal colour…

I have been beta testing Microsoft Windows since Windows 95. Through that time I learned that the more I expected out of a new Operating System the less I would actually see. The progression from Windows 95 to Windows 7 gradually added most of what I expected from a new OS. There are still some features that are lacking. One of them is the ability to extract an ISO without having to buy software. In Windows 7 at least they added the ability to burn an ISO natively. What do you expect from Windows 8?

OK, I've had this problem with a couple of workstations in the domain before. With them I just un-joined the domain and re-joined the domain and presto, fixed! Well I had the same problem on another workstation where I didn't want to loose all of the local user account settings so I began searching on the Internet and found the following solution. One difference is that my problem is with a workstation. (I DID edit the workstation record NOT the server.) After doing that I applied a few updates that were available for the server and rebooted. Well now when I TRY to log into the server I'm getting the error paraphrased in the title. The full error is: "The security data…

hi, Ive just created a VPN and connected sucessfully. However, ive noticed its not quite performing correctly. 1. I cant use the internet when connected to the server (locally or remotely, no internet at all) 2. i cant find printers on the remote local server 3. i cant ping local hosts remotely 4. nothing appears under the "network", i thought the network name or host name would appear under network and allow me to browse shared documents, eg, COMPUTER_NAME in "networ" however i can map network drives. Any help much appreciated, Cheers

We have a Windows 2008 Fax Server dedicated strictly for Inbound faxes. We have 4 Faxmodems connected to this server. Other notes: This server also serves as a print server and hosts nearly 2 dozen printers. I am new to the company and am working a continual problem the company is facing. Many of their customers are complaining that when they fax they get continual busy signals. However, when we look at the fax logs, we always see no less than one of the fax modems open...so, we should not be experiencing busy signals. It is not isolated to a specific fax modem....the free modem can be any of the four we have. I am not familiar with Fax Servers so I'm lookin…

Hello, I am currently running Windows Server 2008 Enterprise Edition on one of my Dell laptop computers. I am using this for educational purposes as to decide if I would like to switch my existing domains to my local network instead of using a third party. I have successfully installed AC DC and DNS onto the server. I have also configured my router to forward the necessary ports to my server's static IP address. I have tested the server using a connection outside of my local network using the public IP address, which works. However, I am having problems setting up the DNS to forward to the public IP using the host name. I have searched numerous forums, websites, and vi…

I installed Windows Server 2008 Standard and I wanted to play around with it. I better understand 2003 so I wanted to get familiar with 2008. After the installation, I went ahead and did the DCPROMO and setup my primary domain controller... Once completed I tried to login to the domain from a Windows7 Ultimate laptop and a Windows 7 Pro desktop and both get the error An Attempt to resolve the DNS name of a domain controller in the domain being joined has failed. Please verify this client is configured to reach DNS.... I have spent the last 3 hours searching the web...I have tried several things.. I used dnscmd to reset the listening address to the addr…

I am making changes to a network in which I am running out of IP addresses. The subnet is currently 192.168.1.x and I would like to implement a Superscope. We would prefer not to change the IP addresses of the existing infrastructure. If I understand implementation correctly, an additional scope would have to be either a 192.168.2.x or 192.168.0.x. If I choose the latter, will the server hand out additional leases in the 192.168.0.x once the 192.168.1.x has exhausted it's remaining leases, or will it want to "flow" upward to the the next higher range of 192.168.2.0? I ask this, because I am already using the 192.168.2.x range on another connected site that I'd prefer …

hi all. does anyone know if its possible to batch create users and thier shares at the same time? in my old job, we normally created user accounts and shares as they were needed,(ie never that often, so it was never really an issue) but in my new job, we tend to get batchs of students (20-40) starting at a time, and i was looking for something to speed up the process of doing this. would also like to hear of any 3rd party software that might be available... has anyone any suggestions on this?? thanks LK1976

Hi, I have a Windows Server 2008 Standard with 5 CALS and only 1 user will access the server. That user will use RDP from his laptop to access the server and will run all of his applications via the RDP client. Do I have to purchase a Terminal Server License for only 1 user or is there 1 license built in. If there is 1 built in license does it have all the functionality that a seperate license would. Thanks

Good Morning Everyone! Just found the site, I hope to call this one my new home! Here's the situation: I have 6 offices I need to network together, for purpose of ease, we'll label them 1,2,3,4,5,6 lol 1 is the main server we have now, and 1-3 is in the Southern US, while 4-6 is in the Northern US. Instead of making all the traffic go to #1, is there a way I can make a mirror server at #4, and have 4-6 grab (files, email, data) off there, while 1-3 use #1? Applications: Exchange Sharepoint ACT! (and tons of random files) Thanks in advance!
