We have two locations in our company and two different networks which are connected together. I am on 192.168.1.1 and Windows 2008 server is on 192.168.2.1 - I can see everything on .2.1, I can ping it etc.. I would like to know if it is possible to join a domain on .2.1 - where Windows 2008 server is from my location .1.1. I always get this message: I have around 15 desktop computers that I have to join with domain and domain server is a few kilometers away. Any help would be much appreciated.

Hello I got Windows Server 2008 R2 and using it as a workstation. The other day I created 2 accounts, but they were deleted(were not needed). How ever when right click on a folder or shortcut(any folder/shortcut) and click properties, security I notice their is a account unknown(S-1-5-21-27) ( note its a lot longer than that, to much to type). In C:\Users the two accounts I made still have there folders there. Last time before this I deleted a account it deleted the complete folder. If I check the security tab of the first folder it will give a the random account unknown with a long number. The other folder is the same BUT with a different number. So both a…

I use the default snmp service to monitor my Windows servers. Everything has been working correctly until we started using Win2008 R2 servers. For some reason, it appears that the Windows snmp service is reporting incorrect information for all of the attached iSCSI drives. The physical memory, virtual memory, and locally attached drives are still reporting correctly. I tried googling for more information, but this appears to be a rather unpopular problem. However, I have been able to narrow the problem to the server itself. I ran an snmpwalk from the monitoring server, and verified that the Win2008 system is sending wrong data. I have included the snmp data in …

This is for Server 2008 SBS...In the reg. under the path HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\VSS\VssAccessControl I have three entries for NT Authority all with the value of 1 but I also have a username in there with the same value as the others. This user is a former admin here who has been gone for awhile and his account has been deleted. Lately I've noticed in the logs a lot of warnings with VSS being the source and the ID is 8227...Should I remove this entry? Tell me oh great geeks what should I do?

I am having some issues while installing FPSE 2002 for IIS7. I have Windows 2008 Server Enterprise which I do believe has the IIS7 and not the IIS7.5. Well anyway I did a search online for FPSE for IIS7 and came found this link: http://learn.iis.net/page.aspx/134/installing-the-frontpage-server-extensions-on-iis-7/ I follow the instructions on this page and everything installs fine with no error messages. So after I get installed I go to use the website to extend the website I click on the virtual server and get this error message. And yes before anyone asks I did install as Administrator not someone that has Administrator rights. HTTP Error 404.0 - Not Found …

Good afternoon everyone and I would like to thank in advance everyone for at least taking the time to read the issue i'm having. I am helping a printing company upgrade their network and have replaced their 10/100 router and switches with gigabit, and replaced their aging Server 2003 server with a brand new 2008 Server. However, in the process, I managed to hit a bit of a wall. Scenario: 1 Linksys WRVS4400N Gigabit Router 1 Cisco SR2024CT-NA 24 Port Gigabit Switch 1 Windows Server 2008 (Dual Xeon E5606 with 16GB memory) ~10 workstations all with gigabit NIC On the prior 2003 server, their printer software database would load with a snap of a finger. On th…

Can I install a 64 bit Windows 7 on a computer that currently has a 32 bit version of Vista? I think that my hardware can handle a 64 bit Operating System. I tried to install a 64 bit version of Windows 7 but the installation program checked my current Operating System and stopped. Is there any way to override this? How can I make sure my hardware can handle the 64 bit OS? (I build this computer from scratch) I do not think this will delete my hard drive. Will it?

Hi everyone! I'm am unfortunately a person with a small amount of knowledge in a small town. A couple doctor's offices have asked me to help with keeping the networks and workstations operational. The previous admin looks like he had less experience than I do. So please forgive any really simple or stupid questions I may have. A long time ago I managed my own network at my company which had about 25 workstations and 3 servers. Because of engineers who thought they knew what they were doing they would constantly change a setting or mess up their workstation and I'd spend hours trying to undo what they had done I decided to Ghost every machine on a weekend. This worked …

Hi All, I have to create a server 2008 image with some changes like naming network interfaces to LAN, LAN1,LAN2 etc. I installed server 2008 on a machine and made necessary changes(renaming interfaces) and created the Image. I reimaged another machine with the image created before. Problem: The network interfaces in new image doesn't have names as LAN,LAN1 ,LAN2 etc. And it gives an error when i try to manually rename to LAN,LAN1 etc saying "the name already exists". But the names are not shown in Network configuration window. Any Help Is Much Appropriated. Thanks in advance. Regards, Bharath
