Vista is so secure that I can't even do a simple thing like watch videos at youtube. You locked the gates but you also locked me out in the process. Linux is a more secure OS too and I have no problem viewing youtube on that OS. Get rid of that DRM crap too as it is already causing issues with memory address space allocation. In the meantime I will use XP as my main OS until Vista is ready for prime time. By then I expect I will have to buy a new version of the OS. As it is now Vista is just a novelty OS to me.

I love the comments that I see rolling in this newsgroup. More and more people are throwing MUD at Vista, and it really deserves it. People are not DUMB they know vista is BAD, despite the MS hype about millions of sales.. the truth will shine. Well some people ARE DUMB, and those LOVE Vista! -Lets go forward & lets leave vista behind, lets forget it, just like the horrible nightmare it is.

Everywhere I go... people who have vista say it sucks! lol I even try to defend vista.. try to explain that they are making a service pack that will fix problems.. they don't want to hear it! Vista sucks its slow and horrible... that's what they say... I installed dreamscene on one guys machine since he had ultimate... he said what is this? Why would I like a movie on my desktop??? lol I want to work fast without problems! Fortunately that particular person has a dual boot system with XP. And guess what OS he uses? XP! He boots to vista from time to time just so he can say that he didnt waste all that money for nothing.... He told me.. "it …

Vista is comparatively new. We must give it a go and try not to constantly compare it with what went before. Microsoft said that it would run lots of maintenance programs in the background. One because people want to get on with other computing tasks while carrying out mundane maintenance, but perhaps more importantly, because MS knew so many people would never carry these tasks out, if left to their own devices. Updates are one such task. Updates are important because they block holes that virus makers have found. -- Ian......uk

New PC arriving Monday with 1 TB HDD. I like as much as possible to keep OS and files separate, also an image of C: on a separate partition or drive. When installing Win 7 from DVD is it easy to set partition sizes there or should I complete the install then use partitioning software, probably Paragon? How much space should I allocate for OS & apps? With XP I used a 30GB partition and had space to spare, will I need more for Win 7? Replies appreciated. -- Kenny Cargill

I thought technology is suppose to advance, not regress. Can anyone explain the philosophy behind Vista or at least provide articles that explains what was sold to the boss to launch this OS? Is it the big business theory? Most of the niceties we had in 98, 2000 & XP, you can not find unless you have business vista. Did they think or something? You don't have to have a business to have a need for the things you don't get unless you have vista business. Windows Vista is a step back in time beyond Windows 95. Actually, Windows 95 was far more superior than Vista is, from a layman's perspective. Yea, it may be more secure but you know what, I'm a no b…

I am unable to run Windows 98 SE in normal mode. Fortunately, I can run it in safe mode. When I try to run Windows 98 SE in normal mode then I receive a BSOD (Blue Screen of Death --- grin). The windows fatal exception is as follows: Fatal exception 0D occurred at 0147:0000BC9D I have a dual-boot with XP Professional which still works great. However, I also want 98SE to work great as well. Thanks for your help and I look forward to getting 98SE up and running at full speed. I am very happy to say that things I have been saying over the past 1 year are all confirmed. Of course I am sad to see that I had to say all these things in the first place. Vista should have been better, then no need for criticism and rejection would exist. - Vista is far slower than XP - Vista search is horrid, slow, gets corrupted and thrashes the disk. The service should be turned off. It doesnt work. - The vista start menu design is extremely bad, with menus that collapse upon itself. - Vista is unstable and incompatible with no great reason since it is NT kernel. - Vista is not user friendly, creating frustration to the simple user - Readyboost is …

I have nota bit of know how with fixes and all the other things you are asking some of the people to do here, I loved windows 98 I loved windows xp, so as soon as I heard about vista, I told my hubby to get it for my desktop, for my birthday in Feb. I have had nothing but problems, I have tried updates, most of them make it worst, I tried not even using my comp a few days..lol thinking it was resting, my trashbin says now when i want to empty it that there is 13,000 items in it, once I emptied it anyway, but then I did a system restore so I could use my comp. to at least get my email, and what I am most sad about is how excited I was to get this, I was pla…

We are getting a new computer and generally only buy a new computer every 5-6 years, so we take whatever OS comes on the computer at that time(currently using XP with no real issues). I keep seeing all the negatives & problems with Vista, is it really that bad for a non-technical user like myself? Should I be opting for XP instead, because if I do it seems to really limit available computer selection?

http://www.reviewlinux.com/?m=show&id=9926 Dream Linux, yet another one of the almost 1000+ different versions of Linux proves itself to be yet another dud. Tell me, do they actually test these things before they foist them on the general populous? "One reason I wanted to take a look at DreamLinux 3.0 was it's claim on their website that they had the easiest tool to install DreamLinux 3.0 to a USB Key. Well, it is an easy tool.. If it worked.. It didnt work for me.. But maybe others had better success. Wasn't any problem with the key as it was brand new and made bootable and upon not working at all in DreamLinux 3.0 I immediately had no issues pl…

A I predicted even before RTM was released vista is a horrible flop. Am I right??? I am right, of course as with everything I have said about vista. No one wants it, small retails are stripping it from machines and installing XP again as I predicted, the big retails cant do that much because MS is holding them by the balloons... however consumer pressure is forcing MS to continue to offer XP... AS I PREDICTED, everyone hates vista, and no one wants it... And this is what you can see from the press... I can see it all around me, people don't like vista, they format it and use XP, or dual boot and forget vista... The only fans are some diehard path…

Hi, I'm after informed opinions if possible... I'm going to be building a new pc soon. The supplier has copies of XP in stock so I was going to get one (since I have used XP for several years without major issues) but I am wondering about Vista. The computer will be used for web browsing, home office & some games. Is there any advantage to Vista over XP (other than continued support)? I have tried looking at the product descriptions but have not seen anything to swing the decision. Since all I am wanting is an operating system that lets me use the software etc I currently have, should I buy another copy of the XP I am familiar with or (the…
