I've searched for previous posts but they all come up error 404. I watched a tutorial on network load balancing. I have 4 web servers and one database server. I would like the load to be spread between the web servers (which get data from the data server) , basically have NLB be the "traffic cop". The only question I have is...is the virtual IP address that the web servers (or users) would connect to hosted on a main domain controller , or is the cluster IP address just on whatever machine I want to set it up on and then the computers connect to it (after I run the configuration for each web server). I'm thinking I would need a DNS computer A as the host IP, that web…

  2. Hi, Is it doable to set up a non-domain-based (standalone) Windows Server 2008 as an SSTP VPN (Secure Socket Layer Tunneling Protocol VPN)? I'd like to enable remote users to access a network via SSL-based VPN (currently using PPTP) by making an SSTP VPN connection via a Win2k8 server. Most of the docs seem to include running in an AD domain with an in-house Certificate Authority to enable this feature. Is it possible to do this with a stand-alone Win2k8 server? If so, how?

  9. We need to be able to present multiple internet explorer sessions with different proxy settings to our freelancers. Is there a way to have a configuration where our freelancers see something like this: IE Shortcut1 -> Proxy1 IE Shorcut2 -> Proxy2 IE Shortcut3 -> Proxy3 Basically we don't want the freelancers to have to go into their internet properties each time just to change their proxy settings in order to connect to a specific client's website. Any ideas?

  10. Hi my name is David, and I have some questions about using Win Server 2k8 in a small to mid-size business environment. I'm helping a non-profit with some IT work and their computer environment is such: They use a service called Apps On Tap (http://www.appsontap.ca/) to store and access their data and applications (MS Office, Raisers Edge (a fundraising software package for non-profits), etc.). They have about 35-40 computers set up for a mix of management and non-management staff, and comprising desktop workstations and laptops. The workstations for the non-management staff have been set up using the same setup procedures, so they are almost mirrors of each other in te…

Hi, I'm configuring my dns for the first time and am having some problems. I have my domain pointing to ns1.mydomain.com and on my server I created a ns1 nameserver entry under the forward lookup zone for mydomain.com. My problem is in the SOA whenever I change my nameservers or the primary server from compname.mydomain.com to ns1.mydomain.com it takes effect... but then later I go back into it and it has changed back automatically to compname.mydomain.com This leads me to the conclusion that I'm not doing this correctly! My question is... does ns1.mydomain need to be a physical server or just a nameserver entry for mydomain.com? Is there any way to change the primary…

  15. Hi All, I am hoping this is something you experts can help with. The Motherboard I have is GA-X58A-UD5 and I want to setup Wake On LAN for Windows Sever 2008 R2. It is a test system and would like to be able to start and put it to sleep as and when required. I am not too sure how to go about this as I cant find any offical documents. The questions I have are: (1) Will WOL work with "GA-X58A-UD5", from what I can see from the manual it should work? The motherboard has PME Event Wake Up and Power On by Ring. The only concerns I have is that it states at the bottom, Support on Windows 7/Visa only - but does that mean it wont work with Windows Server 2008? It also st…

I was able to join client to domain and use mapped drive through GP from server fine, until I walked away. After testing file xfer to server I turned off all devices on network. 25. Hi all, I have done some research investigation without results. There's an special attack to some of our servers. With linux we simply block certain UDP packets by length ( As an example, all UDP packets coming from XX port and with XXXX packet lenght ) would be blocket. But I can't figure out how to do that with windows. We are using windows 2008 server R2 ( std edition ). Windows advanced firewall seems to have some options, but not as detailed as i wanted, and it seems that there aren't so much windows server firewalls ( I see comodo ). Is there any way or policy to allow me to achieve that ? Thanks,
