I was trying to install Avira on windows server 2k8 r2 standard when I came across this online: http://expertester.wordpress.com/2008/08/07/windows-server-2008-as-superworkstation wrote: 1.) Be careful not to deny the whole rights for all administrators or something like that (I tried that first cause of a black out and it leads to windows not being able to boot). 4.) Now you should be …

Hi, I am very new to the windows server and am in the learning stages. I joined in the job recently as a Network Engineer and unfortunately the people who created the DC have left. The problem I face is that I need to provide or take away browsing privileges while maintaining the outlook services to a few users profiles existing on the Domain Controller. The users existing in the active directory control are members of groups such as _restricted, _limitedbrowsing, _no download. which have further been given permissions through group policies. But, this is the point I am getting lost. I am a novice, so if somebody is kind enough to guide me. Thank you

Hello everyone, I am currently running windows server 2008 standard edition and having some issues with the VPN and IIS 7. First of all, they both work however, IIS 7 seems to stop working few minutes after I restart the server. I cannot seem to access it using my public IP such as "https://XX.XX.XX.XXX:443" (again, it will only work for the first 4 minutes, then stops working). I started getting this error after I installed "remote access and routing". When I uninstall VPN server, I can access IIS 7 anytime, it doesn't go down at all. Also, when I access my router page (I.E. 192.168.0.1), my server seems to display multiple internal IP such as 192.168.0.102 to 192.168…

Hi guys. I'm trying to connect by RDP, at the same time, 3 users, but is not working. the system only allows 2 RDP at the same time. I've tried to configure the tsconfig.msc, regedit, gpedit.msc, gpmc.msc and at the end "gpupdate /force". Some one can give me some lights about this issue? do I have to install something more? Many thanks!

Hello everyone! I'm basically new in managing Windows 2008 Server R2. I'm trying to open a port for a specific application in Windows Firewall (in domain group policies), so I create an "inbound rule" allowing traffic to the specific port. The problem is that the connection is not working. I disabled the firewall, I turn down the antivirus, and the connection is somehow blocked. When I run netstat -an and add the filter to show the "listening" ports, the port that I opened before in the inbound rules is not appearing. I tried with other ports and the results are the same. Any idea of what could be the problem? Thanks in advance!

Hello @ll, ive the following (very strange) problem with our print server in our network: Some printjobs takes a very long time to leave the spooler print queue and finally reaches the printer. Therere are no errors in the logfiles, the workload is minimum, a restart of the printer doesnt help. On the printserver there were only drivers from one manufacturer installed (Kyocera). The problem is not repeatable and there are always other various models. It seems that something "blocked" the queues. OS: Windows 2008 R2 / numbers of printqueues: nearly 300 / number of different models: 26 / number of different printer drivers: 3. Maybe theres a chance to use th…

Hi, I've been working on setting up a server at home and am running into some issues resolving DNS for my site. Im running windows server 2008 and have a split DNS setup. I have a DrayTek Vigor 2920n with 5 static IPs. Network config: - Internal Domain Controller - External Domain Controller - Read-Only external Domain Controller in DMZ on IP #2 - IIS Web Server on IP #3 with port forwarding for 80/443 All is working except DNS resolution. intodns.com reports that my RODC on IP #2 didn't respond (contains DNS entries for ns1 and ns2 for mydomain.com). I can ping IP #2 succesfully. If I get on the RODC VM I can ping out but can't browse (at first I couldn't eve…

That's right. Windows 8 client and server are now available for download. The downloads are developer preview builds and come in both x86 and x64. There are 2 version of Windows 8 you can download. One with developer tools and one without. There is no upgrade path so a clean install is required. Follow the links below to grab the copy of Windows 8 that you prefer. These are direct download links to the Windows 8 ISO. A server I supported was 2003 and was setup so you could add a MAC address to DHCP reservation and it would block the Internet, but email and everything else still worked. A previous tech set this up, I inherited the customer when he left. This setup worked great. The server died, I replaced with a 2008 Standard Server. Is there a way to replicate the previous setup or something similar? I tried google, but didn't find much that would be helpful.

I'm going to be moving my companies Disaster Recover Domain Controller to a new facility and changing it's IP address this coming weekend and I've read there might be problems within AD from changing the IP of a Domain Controller. I've never had to change a DC's IP so I'm looking for any advice from anyone that has. Currently, one of my branches uses this DC to authenticate to...after the move and IP change, they should just authenticate to whichever DC they are nearest to right? What concerns should I have about changing the IP of this DC and is there anything specific I need to do in preparation for the change?

Hello, I've just set up a server to act as a VPN server and I'm trying to use the SSTP VPN as the connection point. However, everytime I try to connect I get "error 800b0109 A certificate chain processed, but terminated in a root certificate which is not trusted by the trust provider.". I followed the setup/install guide by Thomas Shinder (windowssecurity.com) and Microsofts own instructions! So, I create my first VPN connection as PPTP (this works), I then got the certificate (http://{internal ip address}/certsrv/) and install it into "Trusted root certificates". I then change my VPN Connector (on windows 7) to SSTP and try to connect. Then I get the error! Can anyone…

Dear all, I am very new to Windows 2008 server but I have an acceptable experience in the IT field so I can follow steps when needed :) I (will) have a server with raid 0 1 with a 2x 1TB HDD I am planning to install windows 2008 server. I went through some online readings about raid 0 and raid 1 Not much clear step by step how to (to me) to install any. My intention is "mirroring'. I read that Raid 0 improve performance. 1- Can I use configure both a raid 0 (improve performance) and a raid 1 (mirroring)? if so, how? 2- If not, any easy step by step how to to install Raid 1? P.S. A simple and maybe stupid question: is Raid configured before installing W…

I am having issues with my Windows server 2008 recognizing my Raid 5 array. The entire drive does not show up in the system at times. I have captured 3 screenshots of various states of the raid, including the log file and information. After reboot of the server, the drive is accessable sometimes and it shows up correctly in the raid array manager. Im not sure if its the raid controller failing, or multiple drive failures. (hopefully you can clearly read the screenshots, if not i'll link them elsewhere as full image)

A failover cluster is a group of independent computers that work together to increase the availability of applications and services. The clustered servers (called nodes) are connected by physical cables and by software. If one of the cluster nodes fails, another node begins to provide service (a process known as failover). Users experience a minimum of disruptions in service. This guide describes the steps for installing and configuring a file server failover cluster that has two nodes. By creating the configuration in this guide, you can learn about failover clusters and familiarize yourself with the Failover Cluster Management snap-in interface in Windows Server 2008…
