Good Afternoon All, I am looking to implement a server into the small business that I currently work for. I have a few questions on what I need to do and what will be the best way. Let me explain our infrastructure first 8 Users (6 Desktops and 2 Laptops that will work remotely 2 Weeks/Month) (3 Users Windows 7, 5 Users XP) Currently use a tower running XP setup primarily for File Sharing All applications (ACT!, Microsoft Outlook, QuickBooks, etc.) are installed on each computer and only the company files are stored on the file sharing PC. It is a very poor setup and I have tried since being hired (6 months ago) to implement an actual server. I have receiv…

I have changed changed the servers network connection ip to use the static ip, subnet mask and gateway etc (i got these from my router homepage). 3. I tried to then install active directory as suggested inhttp://www.buchatech.com/2010/06/ho... however when following this through the dns server fails to recogn…

I need a little help understanding SCCM. From what understanding I have of it, it's basically group policy and WSUS wrapped into one. Any better description or help understanding what it is and what it does and how it differs from GP and SUS would be greatly appreciated.

We have 6 server clusters running Windows 2008. We can ping them via name and get a response. However, when we try to access them in Windows Explorer by name they can't be found. We can only access them in Explorer by their IP address. For example, we can browse to \\123.45.6.789\c$ but not \\servername\c$. Does anyone know how to fix this? Thanks!

Hi everyone, I am getting started on windows 2008 server. A new Dell Poweredge T110 II machine with 2008 windows server is on the way for me. But I am totally new to how hosting and networking works. My simple need is how can I set up 2008 server to have few of my team members remote desk top to this. We all work remotely with internet connection. And this machine is going to sit in my home. Hi, I'm really hoping someone can help with this because I've lost a lot of very important files. The problem is this: I have a Windows Server 2008 R2 machine running with AD DS that supplies user profiles and a redirected 'My Documents' etc to a collection of workstations. Most of the machines run XP, with a couple on Windows 7. The Documents/Favourites/Application Data folders are redirected to a shared location on the Server and so far I have encountered no problems. However, I recently logged onto one of the XP machines with a user account that has previously only logged on to one of the Windows 7 machines. When I logged back on to the Windows 7 machine wi…

I am in the process of building a new server to allow thin clients to log into a new server running Windows Server 2008 R2. I however want the users to be redirected to a desktop that resembles Windows 7 and not Server 2k8 when logging in using RDP. I have it setup right now to when an user logs in they get their own profile with a Server 2008 desktop, but I can not get it to redirect to the Virtual Windows 7 machine I have running on Hyper-V on the same server. I have about 50 users so I do not want to create a virtual machine for each user, just have each user with their own desktop that can be customized to their own liking. The users would login using their AD …

I made the mistake of installing a new server with a Windows 2008 R2 Standard Retail DVD (not realizing it was this at the time that I did the install). Since that installation, I've configured the server and otherwise put work into it. I purchased an OEM key (not really knowing that there were different license types out there at the time of purchase). So now I have an unactivated and unlicensed system that I need to license and activate. I also have a System Builder Windows 2008 Server Standard Edition OEM DVD and license (unopened). Can I simply use the product key that comes with the OEM DVD to license and activate the server that I've set up, or will I get s…

Hello, I manage a Windows 2008 Server and I cannot access IP restricted URLs/sites for which my IP is already granted access. I can navigate to Google and any other page, but not to those sites. The URLs in question are XMLs authorized to affiliates only, that's why they are IP restricted but my server's IP is already in their allowed list. I asked them for help but as I do not refer much traffic yet they just did not provide any suggestion. I'm stuck, so any help is appreciated.
