Recently just got a job working with windows server 2008 r2 and i was wondering if i could get the following questions awnsered for me! 1.) IS VBScript and JScript worth learning if i know C/C++? if so why? it seems like VBScript and JScript are dumbed down simple versions of higher level popular programming languages. 2.) What was the original purpose of scripting languages vs. compiled languages? 3.) For automation tasks would compiled c/c++ programs work just as fine?

  5. Hello, I am new to this forum. I am developing on ASP.NET and VB.NET. Our applications will be using SQL Server 2008 R2. My question is (if it may not sound silly), can I connect to the Windows Server 2008 R2 without obtaining a dynamic IP from my ISP? Can I use the fully qualified Domain Name to access the R2 Server? Currently our factories are equipped with cctv cameras which can be accessed using IE, We have to key-in the URL. Thank you.

I have an 2008 r2 server that has iis 7 installed on it. The server hosts a webapp that works perfectly fine. The problem is that a plan ordinary web page with a java script does not work. I can take the directory and copy it to a Windows 7, a Mac osx, win xp or a plan ordinary win 2008 r2 server (without IIS installed) and if I load the webpage from a browser on any of those machines the java script displays the changing jpg's correctly. On the server with IIS installed all I see is a white box with three dots that blink (not quit flashing). the java script is bannerad3.js. I am sure that it is something simple, but can't figure it out. I even tested loading the…

Hello, I am new to Servers, and I have a questions. I'm running a Windows Server 2008 R2 Edition with AD, DNS and File Services. My client has given me 4 DNS addresses to add to client machines to access their private intranet. I have added the 4 IP to DNS in each and every client machine. The machine can access the intranet without any issues. I was just wondering that If there's a way to forward those 4 DNS Address through server, and giving server IP as client machines DNS. Thank's in Advance.

  9. Hello All, I am new to working with a server and I have a quick question. I ordered a new server and it arrived and I installed the AD DS and DNS Server, as well as the DHCP role. My question is I can't seem to get the configuration right without getting the Red X showing that the DNS and DHCP roles are not working. My main question is we are using a Netgear Router that I have turned off the DHCP service and set a static IP on the server, but it still doesn't appear to work, can I use that router or should I just use a switch instead? Furthermore, when restart a client computer and try to connect it to the domain, it says that it can't find the domain controller…

I have a serious problem with my domain at work. I work in a school, we used to have one windows 2003 server as a DC. Meanwhile I installed another server with 2008 r2 platform and set it as additional DC. Then I reinstalled the first one so, now both of them have 2008 r2 operating system. Active directory with users and policies was created few years ago and worked fine. There were basically 3 types of users: - student (user with minimal rights) - teacher, and other staff (SuperUser) - administrator (domain admin) Until few days everything worked fine, as only administrator was able to use Remote Desktop or access for example server's c$ or d$ drive. Now somehow…

I have a strange situation where I am trying to set up a domain on a shared network. I work at a school that shares its campus with another school and with that sharing we share one connection to the WAN. We have been given the 192.168.3.xxx section of IP addresses with a default gateway 192.168.3.1 to get to the rest of the network and out into rest of the internet. Our school has a machine running Windows Server 2008 that we want to act as the DHCP server. I have had success setting up the DHCP and client computers are able to connect to the server, receive and an address but they are not able to connect to the internet. Using a static IP address and the server as th…

Hi, I have a Windows 2008 R2 box which is located off site in a datacenter. In order to connect it to our LAN I set up an outgoing VPN connection from the Windows 2008 box to our central VPN gateway. When I initiate the connection manually after I logged in via RDP the connection works just fine. But as soon as I log off the connection is being terminated. Two Questions: a) How do I prevent the connection from being dropped as soon as I log off? b) Is it possible to run the VPN as a service in the background so it get's started automaticly at boot time? It's important that this VPN tunnel is running 24/7 without any user interaction. As far as I know it…

Having a weird issue that I'm seeing with two servers now. For some reason they will lose their statically assigned IP addresses and pick up an address from DHCP. Local area connection properties shows obtain automatically. You can set the static again and ipconfig shows the static address, however going back and checking properties again on the connection shows it set to automatically obtain and if you reboot they will once again get their address from DHCP.

Hi all, my name is Kabir and I've just joined this forum. In advance, I apologize for maybe not so good english, since it's not my native language, but I'll do my best. :) I have a situation with Server2008 r2 domain. I have created domain at home with the same name as at work. I also created same administrator's password. Reason I did this is because I'm using a laptop and I thought it would be easier if I don't have to enter credentials each time I change environment. However, I have a problem now. Each time my computer gets locked, I must unplug ethernet cable in order to log in. I get message like "this computer doesn't have trust relation... something" C…

I just logged onto my computer about 15 minutes ago & noticed in the icon tray that Microsoft Security Essentials Icon was orange, I opened MSE & it said my computer is at threat so I launched a quick scan. About a minute into the scan a window popped up saying "Security Essentials couldn't scan your computer... Some history items could not be displayed. Please wait a few minutes & try again. If that doesn't work, clear the history & try again." Error 0x8050800d I waited for 3-4 min & tried the scan again & again I got the same error message, so I searched out the history - found a few quarantined items I was unaware of & deleted the …

After migration to windows 2008, i have a handful of users experiencing network slowness as in they took a long time to access files in this server etc. However when the old server Win2k 3 is plugged in, users have experienced a faster speed. Could it be that the files that they are accessing is still pointing back to the old server?
