I am new to the server world and I am trying to learn as much as I can before getting my server, I am needing to be able to have people log onto the server from remote locations. I understand most people want to lean towards VPN, but then that requires all the software they they need to be loaded on their machine. Can I have them log onto their actual account from the internet and get say a virtual desktop with all of the software loaded on? I know VMware and Hyper V make the virtual server but do they do virtual desktops as well?

Hello, When renaming an account is it best to just create a new AD account instead. As I know when renaming anything on the CN and with LDAP tying in with different systems such as BES, its better to recreate the account. Is this correct? How would you usually go about this?

It's a brand new 2008 R2 domain with win xp and win 7 clients. The problem is at random intervals when they try to access network resources they are given a message stating that "the system as detected a possible attempt to compromise security please ensure that you can contact the server that authenticated you" or another one that says "you might not have permission to use this network resource." They get this messages even if they were in those drives moments before. They then have to reboot or log off and back on in order to regain access. I did an echo %logonserver% and got the correct DC as a response. Any ideas?

I have been getting an error in my 2008 server's system log: DCOM was unable to communicate with the computer (computername) using any of the configured protocols. The computer named in the error has never existed on the network. Where is Windows getting this computername from and why is it trying to communicate with a computer that never existed? I have read http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc774368(WS.10).aspx but it has not helped.

i recently reformatted my computer. I have a backup file in my hardrive which saved my files and after reformatting, i transferred the files i needed to my account out of the backup folder. There are still about 40 GB of files left in the folder which i dont think i would need. I tried deleting it changing ownership, turning UAC off but still cant. Also, i wanted to back my files up in a CD/DVD ROM but it always fails and merely gives me a 0x0087045D error. I would appreciate the help very much. thank you!style_emoticons//sad.gif -- Sandwhale Posted via http://www.vistaheads.com

Hi, im having problems with setting up FTP accounts. I have a VPS where i host 2 sites and each one have different domains. Thats why aside from having "defaul_website" on my site list i have another one named after its respective domain. The main site is the one on the root folder (wwwroot) and the other one is inside a directory called forum inside the wwwroot folder. I want separate FTP accounts, one for accessing the main site and other for having access only to the forum directory without being able to go to the upper level (root directory). I enabled FTP publishing in both sites and created accounts. FTP users for the main directory can login fine. However, de…

Hi All, I am an MS Dynamics AX technical person and I'm trying to configure Business Connector on Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise. The document I'm referring to configure Business Connector expects me to "Open the Computer Management application by clicking Start > Programs > Administrative Tools > Computer Management. Expand Local Users and Groups, and then click the Groups folder". But I don't find any such option under "Computer Management". Can anyone tell me why I'm not able to see that option and how to make it appear? Thanks & Regards, Abhinay

Hi, Last week I had some problem on a server. Apparently someone put Domain Users group to be member of Domain Admins. So that messed up permissions etc. I solved it, it works fine now, but I've noticed I have Documents and Settings folder on C drive. When I browse administrator folder, content of it is identical to C:\users\Administrator How did this happen? And can I delete that Documents and Settings folder since I have Users folder which is default by Windows 2008 r2 thnx

Good day I am the sole it person of this company and would like some ideas n going forward with a project. there are three locations throughout the country, but my country is very very very small. what I want to do us have one domain for the different offices. How would I go about doing this? Do I place the DC in head office and maybe a Cisco VPN router at each location and configure it? Or is it better to get a direct line from my ISP in each location, having all locations on the same network? Will I need a server in each location? Will I need a DC in each location? The organization is small, with not more than 50 PC users. Thank. You for your t…
