I have explored this topic through some of the Microsoft resources online but I can't seem to make my new backup drive work with the R2 server. My old drive pooped out so I bought a 3 terabyte Seagate USB backup drive. I plugged it in and formatted it for NT, same as my RAID 0 main drives. I am confused about setting up the shadow copy program. I assume shadow copy would be enabled for the main C drive (RAID 0) which has a 947 Gig partition and stores all our work programs and files. hi i have windows server 2008 r2 running in my server which has 4 lan ports until now i had one internet connection which was shared among all users now i have an online application running hence got one more high speed internet line which i have connected directly only to server through a router both the routers have diffrent gateways now the problem is my local users are in 192.168.1.1 series which has a inter line and the other line which i have given is in 192.168.0.1 series now when i browse in the server the old line internet is showing even though i have removed dns address from 192.168.1.1 series ip please help how to configure it to the new line .

hi my name is ravi i have a slight issue i am running server 2008 on my ibm machine which has 4 lan ports untill now i had one network through which my network was connected, recently i got a new high speed connection and i am trying to configuring it to the other network card but the server is taking the old network internet even though i have removed the dns and have even set the priority for the other high speed internet * the second line is in 0.1 series and the first one is in 192.168.1.1 series how do i change this ? please help ... the dhcp is off on the other card and i want to share internet exclusively for the server only ..

Hi, In my organisation, we've created forest called "domain[.]com" Dc in server 2008 std edition, in which ADDS too running. Internal users are able to access the server, file sharing & other peripherals. In this case we able to access organizations URL (abc[.]com), not able to access the organization's mail. Hi, I am routing between NICs, WAN and LAN My question is, how can I use windows server 2008 firewall as my main firewall. So, if i want to block outbound web traffic, i will just open the server which is my gateway, and add a outbound block rule for port 80 etc. Right now it seems windows firewall is only a firewall for that specific server and not the traffic passing between the two nics! Any ideas? Thanks!

When I go to HKEY_USERS, and click on my own profile in the registry on one of our 2003 R2 servers, I get an error "Cannot open S-1-5....(blah-blah-blah). Error while opening key." I figured out that the SID in the error message is my own profile. Other people get that error when they log into the server and click on my SID in the registry as well. Does this mean that my profile on this machine is corrupt? I've been asking around the office to colleagues about this error and no one seems to know what's going on. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

We currently have 2x 2008R2 DC's one is in VMware and the other is physical and a 3rd 2003R2 remote DC. We had a power outage a couple of days ago and lost connectivity to the remote DC and the VMWare DC was down as well. I have a batch file to terminate a Windows Server 2008 session and it works fine. I also created a programmed task so it runs automatically around midnight but, when I go to our server in the morning, the session is still active and Windows is only blocked. As all of you must know, Windows Server 2008 blocks itself after some time has elapsed and no activity has been performed. Well, at the time my programmed task runs, Windows is already blocked and for this reason the session stays alive but, if it is not blocked yet, then the session is termiated when the programmed task runs. How can I solve this issue so the Windows session is terminated wheather it is blocked or not…

Hello i have a problem, i want have network folder with allowed applications that normal users (they dont have admin rights) can install. I set SRV to dissallow and my whitelist path to unrestricted.. now i have control which apps users can install but if that app need admin rights it doesnt work, a lot of app need admin right. How can i solve this ? Thank you

Hi, I've installed and configured Windows 2008 R2 Web Edition. All works good, but I need to set VPN. A server is on remote datacenter and I dont have phisical access to it. It have one network card with ipv4 configured address. Now I must install VPN as client to connect to remote server. If in ipv4 details protocol I've uncheck default route, then all works ok, but outgoing traffic are sent to my ip gateway not vpn address. When I've check default route in vpn protocol details then I will be disconnected. So my question is.. How I can set up the routing table to access a server from static ip and vpn ip ? I have a windows server 2003/2008 mixed domain. There is one 2008 server domain controller and three win2k3 dc's. a win2k3dc is the pdc emulator(it holds all the roles currently). The time in the domain is off amongst all nodes, servers and workstations. The pdc emulator is set for an external time source. When i run a w32tm /query /status on the workstations and servers i always get back source being local cmos clock. When i run w32tm /resync i always get back did not synchronize because no time data avaliable. When i run w32 /config /syncfromflags:domhier it does not change the source. What would be the next step i could take in this situation.

Hi, I recently demoted a troublesome 2003 SP1 DC from AD. There was left a 2008 R2 DC in the same site, however, when i go to ADSS and into that one specific site from any DC now, i get the error "Data from Servers is not avaialbe from Domain Controller because: An operations error occured. Try again later, or choose another DC by selecting Connect to Domain Controller on the Domain context menu." DCdiag shows no apparent problems and all tests pass. So could i simply delete the corrupted site and recreate it? All the other sites are ok.
