How do you delete items on the context menu when you right click the Start Menu? I did find some information and was able to delete a couple of them in the Registry.(VERY CAREFULLY) But I know that some are apparently not able to be deleted such as Open, Explore and Search. But there are two left that I can't find any info on deleting them. They are: Add to 'Windows Media Player List and Play with Windows Media Player. I would appreciate any suggestions or help. Thanks.

Thought I'd try this again. I have an Update Problem. I’m running Windows XP SP2 Home Edition. When I went to the MS update site to check for updates yesterday it showed I need the KB931784 update, but it also showed that this update had 0 bytes, which I assume means there’s nothing inside the update. I have already downloaded this update 3 times and my computer is asking me to download it again. This problem started yesterday and it could have been caused by my cleaning the registry with a program called “Window Registry Repairâ€. I tried to restore the registry, which this registry repair program provides for, but because I don’t have REG…

Hello, If I restore the MBR from an Acronis Image, what would happen to the partition table because I re-arranged the partitions since I made the copy of the MBR. Will it be okay to restore the MBR despite the partitions changes ? TIA.

I've been scouring website after website on what seems to be an easy fix. Is there a way to force reauthentication when connecting to a server? We originally thought of seeing if there was a way to place a secondary password on a share but didn't know how that would affect the Mac clients in our company. The situation is this- Mac and Windows clients connect to an AD file server (2003) for both their personal shares and Dept. shares. Some department shares are quite sensitive and so we need those shares to ignore any previously created token and force the user to log in again. Is there some sort of policy that can be applied to the share? Does anyone …

I get a delay of up to a minute when right clicking on file names (not folders) in Windows Explorer before the pop up message is displayed. Disabling the 'Open With' option of the pop up through Registry resolves. Any thoughts on how to resolve?

Hi, I have missed something here and would like some input please guys. I have RUPS for some users, created using the %username% variable. I have VSS running on the drive where the RUP share is however the VSS does not create RUP restore points ? I either get access denied (regardless of the ACL entry) or the restore point list is blank. This issue seems to be consistant with other networks and I have only just noticed it because I needed to restire some data for a user. Any thoughts or commenst would be great. Many Thanks. Johan

Anyone have any suggestions for an MSI Repackager. I want to start pushing applications out via GP and some of them are old exe setups and I want to be able to make them into MSIs. Also, how does it work if you assign an MSI that requires some input information? I need to find some information on creating transforms or whatever it is.

I just learned about the Task Scheduler and added one task. I've noticed however that often when I click on 'Task Scheduler (Local) on the left pane this error displays: 'An error has occurred for task Reminders - owner. Error message: The specific account name is not valid.' I see that task listed in the middle 'Task Status' pane, and it displays a 'last run succeeded' date, but I don't see any way to see what account name it uses. When I look in the 'Active Tasks' pane to find the task to change it, I don't see any task named 'Reminders'. Where would I find it and If I do find it, what account name should I use? Thanks very much.

I can open two separate instances of Excel 2003 Via Start | Run | and entering "excel" for each instance of excel I would want to compare. I have google to find out if this is the correct and only way to run two instances of an application but the results are vague. Question 1 Can anyone adive me how the method above works? Question 2 What other methods can be used to achieve two instances of an application running.

Do I really need a router? I am presently on a dial-up 56K connection, an average homeuser with a desktop computer. My OS is WinXP SP2. I work with LUA, use the in-build firewall and Seconfig XP. I am going to subscribe to a high-speed internet service and the ISP will also supply a 'Hatary HW-AA 101 wireless ADSL2+ router'. The router comes with a Quick Installation Guide and a Starter Kit CD-ROM. ISP connection number, username and initial password will be provided by the ISP which have to be added during installation. The program will then setup the ADSL2+ router and make connection to the Internet automatically. According to Wikipedia, a router would be ne…

I posted this on the SSB group, but I thought I'd try here also. I've read a few how-to docs on installing Remote Installation Service (RIS) on Windows Server 2003; they all seem to say go to Add/Remove Programs> Windows Components and select "Remote Installation Service". I looked on my server, however, and the option isn't listed there at all. I'm sure the server is Windows Server 2003 SP1, is there any reason why the feature would be absent?

I was wondering if there is a place in the registry or if there is a DOS command that would allow me to re-active a folder's (and its subfolders) inherited rights flag? I was setting up manual rights to files and folders and forgot to re-activate one of Adobe's folder and sub-folders. If I could simply re-activate it via a registry entry or DOS command, I would be able to re-activate these rights on multiple workatations deployed in our department! Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Recently my win2000Pro connection is slower than my roommates Win98SE and his WinXP laptop. They are all connected to my wired Router. (Ethernet connection with Cat-6 cable) I even tried a direct connection from my Comcast modem to my PC with no improvement in performance. Using numion.com I get around 2.6Mbps dl and around 2.7Mbps upload. The other two computers get around 7Mbps dl and around 2.7Mbps upload. Using speedtest.net, I get around 12Mbps dl and around 2.6Mbps upload. (PowerBoost effect) The other two computers get around 20Mbps dl with around a 2.6Mbps upload. (PowerBoost, obviously) Several weeks ago, all results were about the same. Perhap…

I received a message from MSN regarding discontinuation of Encarta with MSN Premium account. I'm trying to find out what it does on the e-mail account. I tried contacting Verizon, since I have Verizon with MSN, no luck. I tried to find a way to contact MSN about it, no luck there either. Anyone out there know where I can go to find out what this program does on MSN Premium, and if it will be replaced by something else (if it has to do with spellcheck.) -- Ferret Mom
