I am currently doing up an old PC for my dad to use, and i am not sure what OS to install. The system is a P2 233mhz, with 64 MB RAM & a 9 GB Hard-drive. I want to install W2K, but the min. spec for that is P166mhz, 64 MB RAM. What i am wondering is, if i install W2K, will it stop me from running other software, that i could run on W98? My reasoning behind this is that, the more RAM the OS is using, the less is left for the rest of the computer. Is this worth worrying about?

Recently my computer has been acting up by just shutting down, restarting, and repeating that. I decided to reformat my hard drive and use my restore discs hoping it would fix the problem. I have an eMachines T2460 by the way. I have added hardware to my computer, a DVD burner, and an ATI All-In-Wonder 9000 AGP slot card. But these have been in for a few months without causing problems. Since restoring and reformating, it has continued to happen, not as often, but the error message I get when it finally restarts is "C:\WINDOWS\Minidump\Mini020904-05.dmp" and "C:\DOCUME~1\BIGSHO~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\WER5.tmp.dir00\sysdata.xml" At least 3 or 4 of these come up each time w…

Is it normal for IIS to not immediately recognize new versions of a web page that I just FTPed up to it? The index.HTML page is made up of many .GIFs (yuck). One .GIF I replaced, but the server still serves up the old one. I even deleted the file off the server, and resent up the new .GIF ... but it still shows the old one!!!

I am trying to fix up my old computer for my dad to use, which hasnt been touched for years. However its not working. Upon booting, it make a long mid pitch beep, followed by 3 short mid pitch beep and finally a loner low pitch beep. The screen appears to show something like 'Digital Snow', when first booting - after about 3 seconds changing to a screen full of what looks like a defrag table, which changes slightly. My first instinct was to check the graphics card, this works fine in another system - so i would assume it would be something else. Any suggestions would be greatfully received. Thanks.

I have Drive Image 7 and I have used it to make back up images of my PC. I am now thinking about swapping my IDE HDD for 2 SATA in RAID. Has anyone ever done a restore of an image on one or more brand new drives with Drive Image 7? I want to make sure that I can do it this way before I buy the drives.

Ok I went to http://www.singingfool.com to watch some music videos, a little box appeared and I clicked yes without thinking before I new it there were 5 new icons on my desktop and I couldn’t delete them with add or remove programs, so I targeted there root files and deleted them manually, then the weirdest thing happened, this internet explorer page appeared in the background of my desktop that I couldn’t get rid of, I tried ending it in task manager but my computer froze, so I updated Norton anti-virus and scanned my Hard drive, it came up clean. I installed spybot search and destroy and updated it, it too came up clean. So I tried going into the registry and finding t…

I just got a CRT hooked up to my laptop, which happens to have a Hydravision-equipped videocard. This is the most amazing thing I've ever used; it even compensates for the fact that the CRT physically sits higher than the laptop screen to provide a seamless desktop. I'd highly recommend HydraVision-capable cards to anyone who has a use for multimonitor (which, now that I use it, would seem to be everyone)

Hi, I just built a new system. I got a new Seagate Barracuda 7200rpm ide hd with 160gb space. I booted directly form the Winxp pro sp1 CD and it formatted the drive with NTFS. But the problem is, when it asked me if I wanted to format, it only showed the 1 partition( which is fine) with 130GB (not fine). Then after formatting and loading everthing, when I went into My Comp and saw the disk size it showed 127GB. What happened to my 33 GBs? Can anyone help. I figure I need to partition the drive. But will I have to reformat everything for this and again install windows? How do I go about this and recover my lost space too?

I am running Windows XP with the Service Pack and auto-update so I have the latest XP system stuff. When ever I try to stream video off the Net with Windows Media Player, it gives me the error window with "Send report to Microsoft." WMP version is 8.00.00.4487. Any video files that I play off my HDD work fine. WMP opens and plays when I double-click the file. I do run Kerio Personal Firewall, made rules to allow, and even tried to stream by *gasp* turning the firewall off, with no success.

I have IIS5 up and running on my Windows 2000 Pro PC. I am in Internet Information Services' Microsoft Management Console. The book I have, outdated since it has instructions for NT, says to right-click the computer name and choose New-->Web Site. When I right-click there is not New on the popup menu. I verified that I have admin rights on this machine. I tried to follow the book I have to set up other IPs on the machine. It's different in 2000 than the book's NT steps. I did assign the IIS Default Web Site to my machine's IP with port 8080 in MMC. I still cannot create a new web site. Anyone have any ideas?

hey, ive recently bought a dell inspiron 1100 laptop. i reinstalled windwos home edition after installing linux. now both linux and windows have a resolution of 640 x 480. i can't change my windows resolution but i can change it in the adaptop advanced propeties but only to the right size (1024 x 850) but with 8bit color. the alternative is 640 x 480 with 24bit color. i installed the drivers again and it stays the same. strangly, on the driver setup which is from boot disc, i get a full screen with 24bit color but then it goes back when i go onto windows.
