The OS is XP Pro. There are two user accounts: me and she. The problem: when she tries to access a picture that was just sent to "my pictures" or one on her desk top the following message pops up. "Windows Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close" and the system hangs. Process explorer shows that "my pictures is not responding. Looking at the details has: AppName explorer.exe ModVer 5.1.2600.3119 AppVer 6.0.2900.3156 Offset 0012a5b ModName kernel32.dll But if I log on to my account and go to "my computer" and approach the same file via "docs & settings" and onward to her "my pictures folder", then the jpg picture file opens with no di…

I have a user with XP Pro that is having trouble with a particular network application. This application is loaded on her desktop and connects to it's server to store and retrieve documents that are scanned into it's database. It was working fine until two days and she claims nothing was added or changed on her PC. What happens is that when you click on the icon to open the application the normal splash screen pops up, disappears but the actual application doesn't open afterwards. When I look into task manager it says the application and it's process are both running. I've tried re-installing the application client twice but that didn't work. I swi…

Is there anyway to install applications when you change the location of one of your folders (My Documents, Pictures, Music, ETC) to a network drive? This error comes up whenever I try to install any application after moving these folder locations. When I move these folder locations back to their default location eveything works fine. I would like to keep these folders on the network, but by changing the location to a network drive this error happens. I am using Windows Vista 32 business edition on a Windows 2003 network. I have full control of the network drive (I am the administrator). The only thing I can figure out is that the drive is not mappe…

I have a new Dell E1705 Notebook with Vista Home Premium, I have no wireless devices at all, unless you count the integrated WiFi. My screensaver will not work! I am unable to download the HID Non-User Input Data Filter because Windows Update does not offer it, I looked and it was not hidden or downloaded in the past. My notebook will go to sleep no problem but no screensaver. I would really like it to function correctly, please advise. -- Chris Rogers

We have about thirty tablet PCs that connect both via WiFi and Ethernet when docked. One of three identical tablets does not show up in Explorer in our domain under Microsoft Windows Network. Nor does it show up in the net view listing. If I enter \\computername in the address bar, it does appear in Explorer's left hand pane, but with its description, not just its computername. If I then navigate up one level so that the listing is in the right hand pane, this computername does not appear. I've rejoined this computer to our domain, to no effect. One IP address shows up in DNS, and both show up in DHCP and WINS, which seems odd, and I suspect may be where …

When I, as administrator and sole user, attempt to change the user account picture, and click on "browse for more pictures", nothing happens. I was able to benefit from the thread by manually adding a pic into the default folder, but it shows up as a blank placeholder (a .jpg) Any further thoughts? I had a Windows 2000 Adv Server PDC running (it was upgraded from an NT4 Adv Server PDC way back when), and recently added a Windows 2003 Server machine and got it to be the BDC. Now, before I could switch the PDC/BDC computers so the Win2K3 server would take charge of everything, the old PDC (the Win2000AdvServer lost it's disk and got wiped clean. No backup, no way to recover, no way to fix. Without giving any lectures on that aspect, I need to know HOW to FORCE the Win2K3 Server with it's AD to become the sole surviving in charge machine and have it authenticate everything. Right now, shares and permissions and user id's can't be updated, added, deleted because the…

Hi I recently had to test Microsoft Antigen 9 with SP1 against McAfee groupshield. Although Antigen and Groupshield were more or less the same although Antigen had 2 engines and not 1 i have a major difference. For my customer to move to Antigen they need to see that Antigen performes better. the problem is that a Manual scan is 5 times slower than groupshields manual scan. Testing in a lab with identical hardware and identical tests the Antigen machine took an hour and a half comparted to Groupshield that took only 22 minutes. Can someone help me with tweaking or configuring Antigen so that it competes with Groupshield?

Regarding Windows Service Pack Windows Vista Update KB936330 This update has been trying to install on my computer for weeks (about ten times) It appears to install, goes through the three installations and then at the very end (after 1 - 2 hours) says it didn't install properly and reverts all the changes. I accept the licensing term and have plenty of memory. I have Windows Vista Home Premium on a Gateway GT5414E and running a McAfee Security Suite package. Any suggestions would be welcome. Thanks in advance.

With MSKLC, I created a German custom keyboard. Alt Gr a should type ä, Alt Gr o should type ö, Alt Gr u should type ü and Alt Gr s should type ß. They all worked fine with keyboard layout test. But when I want to use it in MSWord, only Alt Gr a works. The others do nothing, or strange things. What should I do, to make Alt Gr type the intended symbols? Thanks in advance, Gerhard
