My new PC doesn't power up, ASUS A7V600-X, Athlon 2800+ Hi, Im desperate since i bought a new computer, every part, and when I fuinished building my computer it won't start. I have an A7V600-X Asus Motherboard, 2800+ Athlon processor. I have tried with one and two ddr memories. The thing is that when i try to turn on, it doesn't do anything, neither something on the screen nor a beep or sound. I have tried changing the video card, disconecting my cd and hd, even with the power from another computer (I don't know the name of this part in english, it is the part where the power cord plugs in). I have no idea what could it be, and I'm going crazy. By the w…

Hey All, Here is my problem: I just recently did a scan for spy/adware and found a few things. I deleted them successfully and rebooted. I found that after the reboot, I could not connect to the internet through a couple of different browsers (IE, Firefox, Opera). Although it said that the page could not be displayed, I can still successfully ping the server and receive all four packets without error. It seems I am connected, but cannot connect ...? Anyway my ISP is Road Runner and I use a Motorolla Surfboard cable modem. Please do not suggest using LSPFix because I have tried it and it found nothing. Thank you for your help and consideration. -Tommy Moiseve

Hi everyone! Is it me or does XP randomly lose custom settings in the OS? For example, today, the "show desktop" icon in the quick access tray (beside "start") suddenly reverted back to its Win98 style- no warnings, no errors! Other problems I've had: - icons of different programs were mismatched with each other every now and then (a restart fixed that) - the icon for dial-up internet connection permanently changed -the colour of icons may switch from 32 bit colour to 16 bit colour (a reboot sometimes fixed the problem) Has any of this ever happened to you? Do you have a solution to my problem? If so, enlighten me! :D:D -------- Comp Specs: Wi…

  6. I am having problems with my Nortons AntiVirus Live Update. When I click the Live Update button, it appears to go out and attempt to access the Symantec site, but it fails. When I try to simply to browse to any of the Norton or Symantec sites I get a message saying "The Page Cannot Be Displayed" and on my tool bar is says... "Cannot find server" Is it possible that a Virus of some sort would disable access to the live update site? I have check in the "Restricted Sites" area of Internet Explorer and no sites are Restricted. Let me know if you can help

I think I may have a faulty MB, but wanted to know if anyone has any insite to Asus MB's. Maybe I missed some jumper, although there aren't any cmos specific jumpers. Frustrated and Lost, Roland

After updating WMP to v9.0 I cannot retrieve any MPEG file on my computer. Only MPEGs (for example I have no problem with AVI files). Some of MPEGs are reported as "damaged" by system and some of them have no sound. I attempted to render MPEG files with GSpot and obtained error message like: "Failed to connect to Output Pin [pin No] on [filename] with Input Pin [pin No] on filter [filter No]. Connect Direct () failed. Error [errorcode]: There is no common media type between these pins." Windows Media Player displays error no 0xC00D1199 (0x00000000). I reinstalled all the codecs (video, audio) that I have. I run Winodws Update. I tried to use some solutions foun…

Hi, I decided to have a go at installing debian. All went well apart from when I tried to install KDE onto it. DSelect is just beyond a joke. Its just such a mess! I admit I havent installed linux before but still. So i think I have selected everything for KDE with Dselect but when I go to install, the first odd thing is that it keeps on trying to read past the end of the CDROM so pages of errors come up there. Secondly it displays a list of the dependencies. It says to "Add a solution". How seriously useful... So after my rant (sorry) does anyone have any tips for getting round this? Cheers Chris.

Hi everyone! I have no idea about networking so this may sound dumb but i'm asking anyway. What exactly is ethernet? Is it just a name for a group of computers linked on LAN? Also, (this is hardware really, but anyway) is an ethernet controller basically the networking card or is it something totally different? Thanks!

Hi everybody, I'm making a forum for my school and as it turns out, the school's ISP does not allow for any databasing. The only option for me is to find a free host that will support it, and then set up a redirection page on the school ISP's webpage to the new host. I was just wondering if any of you knew of any hosts on the internet that will provide some free space and allow for basic databases? Thanks in advance Edit: Oh yea, forgot to mention this before- is there any free foruming software that only uses php or cgi scripts? that'll make my life a lot more convenient. :)

Hey All; Hope someone can help. I'm desperatly looking for a power supply for a HP Pavilion 3260 desktop. This is the first power supply that I've seen without it's own cooling fan, so it's small. The original was made by Bestec. Please let me know, if there is somewhere I can find this. The computer is sold and the lady is getting upset. Thanks ...........Jim

I have a bad XP on my E-machine. I can get as far as the welcome screen but no user accounts will load. It says ...loading, saving settings...then right back to the welcome screen. I would love to reload XP and just reformat the disk....however....my CD R/W doesn't read either. If I install another CD rom drive will I be able to get windows to reload by starting my CPU with the XP disc in at start-up? I really hate to spend $30 plus on a new CD Rom and have it do nothing either. Or do I need to hook up the drive to a CPU that has a working CD drive in order to reformat? It would seem like there is an easy answer but I don't have enough expertise to know. Tha…

Hi folks, Over the last week, games have been crashing constantly seemingly for no reason. I play a lot of Call of Duty which was running nicely, I installed Medal of Honor: Allied Assualt which ran for a short time then crashes every few minutes. Likewise now for COD. I have installed all the latest patches for both games, the latest video card drivers, and am using Direct x 9.0b. I have tried disabling anti-virus progs etc but no joy. It was suggested that I try swapping my two sticks of ram over which I will do this evening. My Cyberlink DVD player now even crashes several times during play. New games I install crash every few minutes. They even crash to a blue scre…
