Yesterday, I got my new MSI K8T Neo2-F 939 socket mobo with an Athlon 64 3200+ and 1gb of RAM. Hooray. Quickly to the point, when I installed everything, I plugged everything necessary into the ports, and tried booting up the computer. The monitor was black, and remained black, so I was a bit suspicious. I opened my case back up and saw that my video card's fan wasn't on. Something was wrong... I brought my card to my friend's house to see if it were a problem with my card, but it worked on his system, so it made me realize it was a problem with the motherboard. Is there any certain explanation other than "your motherboard is broken" that anyone can think of?

We're trying to get my Dad's new machine (running XP Home) up and running, and seem to have hit a problem with local network shares. Other computers can access the folders and printers designated 'shared' on the new machine, but it can't see any other machines on the network. An attempt to list computers in the workgroup, either with 'net view' in DOS, or with the My Network Places window, fails with "System Error 1: Incorrect Function". The only query to not return this error was 'net view \\dadsdell' (dadsdell is the name of the machine having the problem). We've disabled the Windows firewall and the McAffee firewall (both part of the default Dell installation) in an…

Just spoke with dell about my computer and they say my motherboard is gone. Its throwing code 1000-0141. A drink spilled on it over the weekend. What is the best way to go about getting and installing a new mother board? Can I use all of my existing drives and memory? How much $ do these motherboards ususally run? Hate it had to come to this. Thanks for the help!

I got a new CPU P4 3.2E GHZ 478 socket. installed on a 865PE Neo2-V motherboard, chipset is obviously 865PE. Its made by MSI. Is p4 cpu ratio is locked? well here is my problem: My system says my cpu FSB is running only at 200MHZ isn't it suppose to run at 800MHZ? I can't change the ratio cause its locked, i don't see any way of unlocking it? Some tech dude told me that it runs at 800mhz and it will say that its running at 200MHZ but its really running at 800...? Is that true. WIll it screw over my cpu if I keep running it at 200MHZ? its running at 3.2 GHZ though. just FSB is at 200.. anyways if anyone could help me out i'd appreciate it.

Hi, Praying for help here: I was recently invaded by some spyware, I tracked down a DSO exploit and seemingly deleted it with Spybot. However, I still have 5 ad icons that I cannot remove from my desktop (Bingo, Printer cartridges...). If I right click on them there is no menu, nothing, neither can I drag them. The lastest Adware/Spybot, AVI definitions don't find anything. I can't find anything in the registry either. These pesky icons load a couple of seconds after my "normal" icons load, so I was thinking maybe they are activated in the ROM somehow. But that is where my technical knowledge ends. MMTIA for any advice/tips. Kevin

HELP! My sister in law (got to love those in laws) was playing on my computer and I have NO CLUE what she did to it.... And she denies everything... All of a sudden when I used my computer my Norton INternet Security won't work. It opens a blank window with Norton INternet Security 2005 at the top and does nothing... I have tried contacting Symantec. They said reinstall Internet Explorer and NIS. Done. Doesn't help! They take FOREVER AND A DAY to get back! Java will not run. Tried reinstalling it.... I am at my wits end before I delete everything on my hard drive and start from scratch! McAfee shows no virus.... AVG shows no virus.... Bullet Proof shows …

I am about to give up. I previously posted on the topic of editing "on the fly" documents on CD-RW - which apparently can't be done unless I purchase different software, and even then it didn't sound like a reliable manner to store my data. Three times now, all I have tried to do, was copy Word files from a CD to my desktop for example, to obviously use/edit, whatever, then copy back to the CD (which supposedly you can do). The copying process freezes at the point of - to the desktop, I then open up Word, only to find the following under "About Microsoft Office Word", "Disabled Items": "The items listed below were disabled because they prevented Word from functioning …

Everytime I try to get to my hotmail account...all I can seem to access is the page where I log in! If I input my username and password in, it just has a blank screen sometimes, then sometimes it comes up with a "page cannot be displayed" message! I have two hotmail accounts and I cannot access either one! Recently, an error message came up and I wrote it down: (header) iexplore.exe application error (message) The instruction at "0x761024a6" refrenced memory at "0x7482322c". The memory could not be "read". Click OK to terminate the program. I keep on getting this error message when I try to access either one of my MSN hotmail accounts. The really strange thi…

I have a major problem with my Laptop. You see Sony is screwy and when you download drivers from their website it detects to see if you have the correct model. The problem is I dont have the OEM operating system on it and components have been changed inside. So it will not let me install the drivers because it thinks its not a Sony. One thing I found that works though is if I copy c:\windows\drivers and all subdirectories to the secondary partition before I format and then copy them back when I'm done, they all work fine. But my hard drive went out this time so I dont have that option. I was wondering if there is anybody out there that has a Sony Vaio R505DL that could z…

I recently installed a new 80 gig HDD...(WD)...replaced the cabling and power supply exactly the way it was hooked up to the old HDD. However, when I started to download some programs...I noticed that the new primary drive is now...M: !!! AT first I was a bit concerned, and had to make sure that downloads to HDD showed up as; M, instead of C: , but altogether there wasnt a problem, just a cool new look for my primary:) But now I am running into a problem with downloading some games that I play...I can specify that they need to go to M: but almost alway's...sometime during the install process...the programs will try and save some info to C:, this results in a gl…

When I turn on my PC it takes me to a screen where I have to click on the user name before going to the desktop....the issue here is that when I do, it says the activation key is needed and when I click "ok" it says that there it's already been activated.....then it stays on the same screen and never takes me to the desktop. Any suggestions?? Thanks, CS.

Hi, I was wondering if there is a way to automate disk partitioning. I am working on upgrading some pc's and at the moment it is taking a long time trying to fdisk every pc (over 300 pcs in total) after the partitioning i am going to put images that i have already created using ghost. I have had a look at disk part and trying to find an easy way of doing it but looks kinda complicated. Also was hoping if there is an automatic way of automattically formatting partitions into ntfs as this will be needed. Cheers for any help Stu

I have dual NEC MultiSync FP1350X 22" monitors. They work beautifully except one has a green tinge problem. I cannot notice the problem with a colorful background, but I can notice it when on dim gray-scale websites or backgrounds. If I create a background that goes from pure white to pure black, I can notice it then, too. My problem with it is that I am a graphics programmer, and when low shades of gray look like low shades of green, I have problems. :( I have tried my best to adjust the brightness/contrast/RGB settings, but I cannot remove the low-level green tinge without introducing high-level reds and blues. (I need a more advanced adjustment tool to adjust jus…

Hey Guys. I have recently purchased a Seagate Barracuda 7200 RPM, 8Mb cache, 120 Gb hard Drive and was (perhaps understandably :p) eager to replace my aging 40Gb Hard Drive. I was wondering if there was any reason as to why the new hard drive doesnt seem to be recognised by bios or by the start-up proceedure. I have read that the new drive is an Ultra ATA drive, and that there are specific Ultra ATA cables. Would having an average ATA cable mean that the new drive wouldnt work? Also, I'm unsure what kind of cble i have, would anybody happen to be able to give me any distinguishing features of one? If nobody can tell me what this could be, I will send it back …

Hi there. I am new to the group. I was wondering if anyone can help me with my problem. I installed a new image viewing program which I then uninstalled (because I didn't like it), but all of my .jpg files had changed icons and I could not open them by double clicking on them anymore. I then re-associated them with my original image viewing software, and I am now able to double click on the images and view them, however, the icons for all of my .jpg files have changed to a funny-looking icon, and not the icon that I used to have for my .jpg files. I have tried going into explorer's Tool menu and further under Options try and change the icon, but to no avail. Does any…

lsass.exe - Unable to Locate Component Hi, I have a slight problem logging into XP on another computer. I read another users question to the same problem I'm experiencing (posted early 2004) but there did not appear to be a solution. Wondering if someone could help now? On trying to log into XP, the XP initialising load flash screen appears as normal but then a blank screen with err msg "lsass.exe - Unable to Locate Component" "This application has failed to start because LSASRV.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem" When "OK" is clicked just a blank screen with the mouse arrow, XP not loaded. I've tried starting in safe mod…
