I need some type of help formatting and reinstalling windows xp. i tried to do it the first time around and some how or another ended up with two xp running at the sametime (big lesson learned). Then i tried to boot from my windows xp cd to format and reinstall but keep getting a mesage saying boot from cd failure. then tried to do the 6 windows xp disk setup boot, but got a message saying could not load hal.dll file. now i'm completely lost on what to do. i have talked to a couple techs and the price they are willing to charge to fix my computer i could just end up getting a new hard drive being that i want to delete everything anyway, right. Being that i don't have t…

Hi, We build, or are trying to, a new PC with the ASUS P5GD1 board (the standard), a PCI Express graphics ATI X700, and a Intel P4 650 processor. We can't get the configuration to boot. We got a new ps for the case to solve the power problem on the 12v connector, but that made no difference. We have been switching video cards, plugging and unplugging every possible connection dozens of times, but all we get is one beep (Floppy controller failure, according to ASUS) but no video at all. Has anyone ever dealt with something like that? Any ideas out there? We built about a dozen computers a year since about a decade, so we got some experience. Thanks Barbara

Alright, it's been happening for a while now. It will randomly reboot at times, sometimes right after starting up, sometimes for a while it will run before rebooting. I Thought it might be the graphics card, seemed to do it when ever I did something graphically intensitve...ex) playing DAOC. Well I changed video cards, still does it, not as bad though...changed bios battery...fhecked fans, all seem to be working well...added more ram... Then I found something said to turn off the restart option for Windows XP in the System in Control Panel. I did that. When it would normally have rebooted, I got an error that the file became corrupt. This was while trying t…

  5. I have a laptop running Windows XP and I recently bought an external hard drive for it. Not liking the case that it was in I went ahead and bought a new one. When I plugged everything up and started the hard drive up again (in the new case) my computer wont read it. Im using a USB connection. When I start it up my computer makes the noise that it has found a new device but 5-10 secs later it makes the same noise to say that it has been unplugged. Also the hard drive does not show up in any of my system trays. I put the hard drive back in the old case and it ran and worked fine. Is it a bad case or do I need a different driver? Could someone please help.

Dear Forum I am at my wits end trying to determine why my computer using XP Professional edition (final version) will go thru the boot process one moment without any problem then the next time I boot it goes thru the process but locks mid-way before the complete boot process? The boot failure when it happens is like this: after lock up I cannot manually re-boot with the switch and the power button does not work nor cntrl alt delete/2x.? Is this a hard-drive problem a software problem or a DOS system problem. I would really like to know before I take it to the computer shop and the sharks there try to tell me its a hard-drive problem just to sell me another hard-drive (…

I have bought the ASUS P4C800-E Deluxe motherboard, and the Coolermaster Wavemaster case. The case has a top unit that contains firewire, USB, and an earphone jack + microphone jack. My question is that in th cases top unit, the microphone/earphones jacks have 4 single pin(female) connectors. Where should these be plugged in on the motherboard. There is no documentation that I have been able to find. Many thanks for any help.

In the add remove programs window I have a very large blank space, starting from about the 20th program the window is black for about 3/4 of the remaining window. The black blank takes up at least 3/4 of the scroll bar. Just wondering how to get rid of all the blank space. The last 10 percent of the window is where the remaining programs are.

I keep getting a pop up window everytime I log on from Error Guard. It tell me I have xxx number of serious errors found on my computer and in order for them to be fixed I have to register and give them $29.95. I'm wondering if anyone has heard anything on whether there would be any more video card chipsets released for the AGP architecture. To me it seems unlikely another chipset would release given the switch over to PCI-X. Personally, I'm not worried about going LGA-775, DDR2, and PCI-X because I dont even max out the computer that I have. The video card seems to be the most important factor to me. I believe I'm simply trying to avoid sinking XXX dollars in the x800xt if its not going to be the highest end for AGP. This could be one of those rare occasions, but if not, I'd rather wait it out with my 9800pro. We all know you cant wait too long with today's technology…

Hello, I am having some trouble setting up my various hard drives. My Bios says IDE Channel 0 Master CD-ROM 56X IDE Channel 0 Slave Maxtor 5T040H4 IDE Channel 1 Master None IDE Channel 1 Slave 24x10 I have one SATA HD connected to the SATA 1 port on my motherboard, and then my old HD is slave (middle ribbon clip) and the CD-ROM is master (end ribbon clip) and that is connected to IDE 1 on my motherboard the CD R/W is connected as master to the IDE 2 on the motherboard, and the floppy is connected to the FDD on the motherboard. Could it be that I have a bad SATA HD? because that is not showing up anywhere on this BIOS list. Regards, JIM

I have already checked the properties and made sure nothing was checked to allow for the automatic deletion of files. For the life of me, I can't figure out why when I delete a file (and no, it's not shift-delete) that it won't show up in the recycling bin. Even dragging a file from the desktop to the bin does not work. The files do not show up in the Recycling Bin. Any advice? Thanks in advance.

I am setting up a Network for my work, and I was wondering if anybody has ever heard of the the following problems?? 1. One of the PC's (192.168.1.1) is blasting roughly 9,000,000,000,000 packets over the network in the first 1 1/2 minutes of being connected. It does not contain any viruses, so I am confident there isnt a problem, but I have a naggning feeling that many packets may be whats causing some other problems including... 2. A number of the PC's will talk to each other, but in some instances, between .1.4 and .1.5 for example, .1.4 will ping .1.5 quite happily and without ANY errors, however, .1.5, nor any other member of the network for that matter, can pi…

Hello, I have a matrox parhelia 3 monitor card. It sits slightly high in my 4X AGP slot, and the screw at the metallic end wont screw all the way down. There is about 1/8" gap. There is no signal to the monitor. This card works well in another PC. What should I do? I want to get some expert advice before I try to muscle it in or break the L shaped tab on the end of the video card. JIM
