Help! I downloaded the msn antispyware beta version on 11.04.05. I have a problem - whenever I start up my machine after a couple of minutes my web dailer tries to connect, and resets the homepage to clon.biz Antispyware is know recognising this and blocking automatically. I want it to stop happening in the first place. The only way I've found to stopmit happening is to temporarily remove (recylcle bin) the systinit32.exe file - though windows gives a warning on startup that it can't be found. Can you help please? ps keep it s-i-m-p-l-e !

I have a choice of purchasing one of 2 similar models of a mini laptop with different processing speeds, the newer model [266Mhz] I am being told was just a "factory overclocked" version of it's predecessor [166Mhz]. I am being told that I can solder 2 wires on the older version and this will increase the speed from 166 to 266Mhz. I called the company and they said they are not aware of this or of any other way at all that the processing speed can be upgraded. The guy who is selling the item told me if I should buy the item he will provide exact instructions and pictures that will show me how to increase the speed but the item he is selling is not in good p…

When you purchase any laptop and you see the specs say 3 or 4 hours e.t.c of total battery life before having to recharge, I am wondering if you can use a "replacement" battery that will give longer life, is this possible? Or, what else can be done to get "more" hours out of your battery?

Hi guys, I just bought an old IBM PC300GL so I could play around with it. However, I'm having trouble getting into the BIOS to change the settings. I've tried all the F keys, the delete key, and the esc key, but nothing works. There's no OS installed so it doesn't exactly help if I can't get into the BIOS to allow for a CD-ROM boot. So, please help! Any suggestions are welcomed! Thanks!

Hello everyone I am new to this forum so please bear with me. I have a laptop that I use for music when travelling and would like to back up evrything on that laptop unto an "External HD" so I will always have the info stored safely in it under my bed and can retrieve all of the info if my laptop should ever get stolen, damaged e.t.c. I also want to be able to transfer what's on the external drive into one of my Desktop pc's so I can have easy access to my music when I am browsing the net. I was told that I need a "Drive imaging" software that will back up everything on my laptop, OS and all and was directed to Norton Ghost 9, asked them if this will work with their…

Hi all :D Well...I've gotten an Adaptec 29160 SCSI card and a 50 GIG LVD SCSI Drive. I have multiple OS's from DOS to WINXP. Here's the problem ALL OF THE OS's recognize the SCSI card, no problem there. BUT If I plug in the drive ONLY WIN98 & WINME cannot get past it's boot up sequence. I dont even get to see the or can conjure up the WINDOWS menu with F8 either. All other OS's are fine including WIN95. There are no IRQ conflicts whatsoever. I've tried different slots and still the same occurence. WIN98 & WINME will boot up fine If I unplug the drive itself. Its only when I plug the drive in that it chokes,..yet, all the other OS's are fine and se…

Of late, I've been looking for a way to use headphones with my desktop machine without crawling behind my desk to plug them in (I also enjoy having speakers when people aren't trying to sleep). I thought that it would be a simple matter of connecting a 1/8" stereo jack to an internal output of my sound card (Sound Blaster Live 5.1), but among the varied internal connectors (including even one to output to a modem!), there is no headphone/speaker output. I would really like to not have a passthrough in back (I think they look terrible), so if anyone has ideas on how I might get the sound signal from a point inside my machine, I'd love to hear about it.

my computer no longer recognizes my onboard NIC. i go to device manager and see that the NIC now has an exclamation point next to it, and not only that, the icon for it is not a network card but an unknown device(which is a little gray diamond). i un-installed and re-installed several times, both in safe mode, safemode with networking, and regular. each time it says it was installed properly and i need to reboot to take affects. once i reboot i get the same problem. when i check out the card, it says "this device is not working properly... windows was unable to load the drivers for this device. code(31)" i check the driver details, it says c:\windows\system32\driver…

I've been getting the Error #317 with same message that I have seen other places but the web page that keeps coming up is different (http://www.clon.biz/search?idz). I have run Ad Aware, Spy BOt and MS AntiSpyware to get rid of this and it always finds it and I delete it but it keeps returning. Every 10 minutes this web page will start up automatically. Can you tell me what I need to do to fix this? Hello, I am trying to hook up a SATA hard drive (WD 36 Gig, Raptor) onto an ASUS P4C800-E motherboard. This MoBo has 2 set of SATA connections. One set is mark SATA1, and SATA2; the other set mark as SATA RAID 1, and SATA RAID2. I connected the Raptor to SATA RAID 1, and have BIOS setting as: Configure S-ATA as Raid: YES Serial-ATA BOOTROM: DISABLE Operating Mode: RAID Boot Sequence: 1) CD-Rom 2) Floppy 3) FT TX ARY 1 After POST, it either gives me: Overclocking failed (Didn't even touch overclocking in Bios). Press F1 to run set up, or F2 to load default. The Raptor, and another SATA hard drive were connected to the SATA 1, and SATA2 before, and perform n…

As I was at work, my wife did something to our computer that disabled both my virus software (Norton - I can double click the exe and nothing happens) and the control/alt/delete function (The icon appears in the lower right hand part of the screen but the window does not appear and when I put my cursor over the icon, it goes away). I am operating with Windows XP. Why wouldn't the task manager appear when control/alt/delete is depressed? Thanks!

Hi, I'm new to the forums - just joined today! I am an administrator for an IT consultancy. I need some help on something, I want to create a CD containing a number of network connections, that I can simply send to other people, rather than having to set up 10 new connections every time a new client arrives. Does anyone know how (if at all possible) I could save and export a number of network connections and their properties? Most of the clients run XP. Any thoughts would be much apreciated. Peter

I recently bought Maxtor 3100 portable HD, with USB connectivity and is supposed to be compatible with both USB 1.1 and 2.0 . It should not need any driver when connected to XP computer. I have 2 computers one notebook and one desktop, both running XP pro. I have no problem using my HD on the notebook which easily recognized my HD when I plug it into one of the 1.1 USB ports. When I plug the HD to the USB port of the desktop (2.0), I get the message " One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned and windows does not recognize it". When I take a look at the USB ports in the device manager, an "unknown device" is listed. Other hardware runs fine when c…
