Hi All, I would just like to say hi and begin by saying that I am a computer tech novice and so perhaps some of the answers to my problems may seem obvious so I hope you`ll be a bit patient, though I am learning slowly. Many Thanks. I keep experiencing the message Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. The error signature I recieve states:- AppName:iexplore exe. AppVer:6.0.2900.2180 ModName:msgsc.dll. ModVer:7.0.816.0 offset:000215aa. I then get an End Program Now message and then I have to log off and begin the whole process again. This often goes on a number of times until I finally, through frustration, give up.I would say that…

Hi everybody, this is my 1st post and I have a problem I cannot figure out. A while back I broke a pin off my processor and I had to send it to get fix. While the processsor was getting fixed I had to use my old motherboard and processor. So I just got back the processor a few days ago and it is good as new. Last night I went to shut down windows and then went to bed. This morning I wake up and my comp is still on. The monitor light is now orange (It is green when active) I tired to hold down my power switch for a while and my computer does not turn off. I have to flip the switch on the power supply for it to go off. I have never Had this problem before I could hold the p…

In further pursuing my multimedia CPU spike and DAW timing issue I came across info about conflicts causing these phenomena due to the combination of Intel 925X chipset, certain higher quality PCIe video cards, SATA controller and firewire devices. My Dell dimension 8400 is suffering this anomoly. I have the 925x chipset, ATI X600 Pro PCIe video card and Firewire Video and audio I/O. I have several emails out to the manufacturers involved but was wondering if anyone here dealing with multimedia authoring has encountered such problems? Here is my basic config: Dell Dimension 8400 P4 (3.0 ghz, 1 gig DDR2 ram, (2) 160 SATA hds, ATI X600 Pro PCIe video card w/256MB Ram…

  7. My name is Wayne Popin and I am visiting this site to see if anyone has ever been able to "turn off" or disable the uninstal-a-shield in Windows XP Pro with SP 2. I have any older Canon Multipass printer that will not install due to the uninstall program included within XP. Any suggestions would be greatfully appreciated ;)

I have no idea what the problem is or what caused it... my friend was playing world of warcraft and it all of a suddenly just restarted. Every time I've turned the computer on after that, it just restarts after getting to the desktop and staying there for a couple seconds. I went into safe mode and under My Computer> Properties> Advanced and unchecked the box that says "Automatically Restart." Now when I load the computer up, it gets to the desktop and gives me a BSOD that has this message under Technical Information: ***STOP:0x0000008E (0xC0000005, 0x80593C85, 0xF369F9AC, 0x00000000) Beginning dump of physical memory. I have WinXP Pro and AVG Virus for virus control. Ran a scan last night and it detected the above virus in C:WINDOWS\systme32\rdriv.sys. I have tried "healing" and "deleting" it but it keeps popping up. I tried deleting the folder directly from the system32 folder but it reappears in about 4 seconds. How can I remove this completely from my system?

Hello from Sunny Scottsdale, Arizona! I just installed Western Digitals 200 Gigabytes HD with Dell's mother board that has a maximum capacity of 137 GB. WD support suggested to either buy their bios controller card that can handle 200GB or upgrade the mother board. Does anyone know where I can get an upgrade for Dell's Dimension 4100 motherboard. Or am I stuck with 137 GB and say goodbye to 63 GB?

Hi I am trying to connect an old PC to my new PC. But i cant seem to get it to work. Both PCs have network cards, they are linked using a cat5 crossover cable. One PC is using XP and the other 98. My new PC accesses the internet via cable (broadband), i was kind of hoping that i could just link the two PCs and hey presto the old PC would get internet access. Obviously, this isnt the case as they would have the same IP address and therefore they will need to be linked via a router to do this. However i would also like to be able to transfer files between them, ie shared drives/folders. I cant seem to find anything in Win98 that allows me to share a folder/d…

I got up this morning and my computer would not turn on. there was no power at all. I checked all the connections. I just replaced the cpu, motherboard, and added ram a month ago because it was frozen beyond repair. The metal box with a fan that the plug goes into will not even come on, at least when the computer was frozen that part always came on. Could a bad motherboard cause this or would it be more likely the metal box is shorted out. please help. Thank You,

Hi, I faced this problem where i wasn't able to connect to GPRS on Win2K/98 but was able to do so for WinXP. Somehow, I narrowed it down to the DSR line used in data communications. For your info, my modem wasnt using DSR (left floating). It works properly when I tied this line to ground or HIGH. When it was left floating, i probed this line at the end of the cable at the computer's side and found a 100mV p-p Saw-like waveform on the line. For another cable which worked on all three, I found a 30mV p-p similar waveform. Just wondering whether Win2k/98 are sensitive to DSR line? Thanks.

  16. I have a Viewsonic media center Win XP machine that shuts down. End Program box comes up saying End Program - CiceroUIWndFrame, you can cancel it and sometimes it will continue to shut down and other times it runs. What I have to do in order to keep the machine from shutting down is log into another computer on my network and open a file. It will ask me to save my file before shutting down. Without a file open it's gone in a matter of minutes.

1] I came across a few utilities and was told by many that these things are not worth the effort like "Registry cleaner and Ram Booster" e.t.c, is this true? 2] Seeing that I use a lot of high powered software and sometimes my pc freezes up, I would like to be able to monitor my CPU, Ram usage e.t.c, this looked like something I could use http://www.pcworld.com/downloads/file_description/0,fid,23831,findid,46974,00.asp but I was told that this utility will "slow" down my pc, is this true? Is it worth it? If not, is there anything anyone can recommend please? Thanks.

I downloaded and attempted to install SP2 to my laptop. Something went wrong: 1. Can only sporadically get the icons in Control Panel; 2. Many "snap-ins" are un-available or not there; 3. Very slow startup and shutdown; etc. I want to remove the SP2 and reinstall it but am not sure how to go about it. Any help would be appreciated. Art

Hi everyone, I got a problem at hand with my PC. I just bought a Silicon Image SiI 680 IDE Controller Raid Card. My intention was to hook up a new Harddisk of 200GB to my computer. I asked the retailer and he told me I needed this RAID card for I am running on a Pentium 3 933Mhz Processor with 256 MB Ram on a Asustek P3V4X motherboard. So I bought this card, came home, installed it and the drivers. After all of that, I still do not see my new 200GB MAxtor Diamond Max 10 Harddisk under Windows Explorer. Can anyone tell me what did I do wrong here? I am really at wits end. :(

Hi gang, I tried searching but couldn't quite find the answer to my challenge... I recently added a Maxtor 300GB HDD to my system using a PCI IDE Card. My OS (WIN XP) is on a Western Digital 80GB HDD coming off the primary socket of the MB (ASUS A7V333-X). I also have a Western Digital 150GB HDD on the same cable as the WD 80GB. Although the system works okay, after adding the 3rd HDD I now occasionally get prompts (on all my apps) that the application is not responding. Sometimes the app will kick back in (maybe after 15-30 seconds), other times I have to cntrl/alt/del to close down and start over (ARGH!). Also, the system takes a bit longer to boot up than …

when opening text file using wnbrowse the text is gibberish; little squares instead of text. to read the text i click the "options" and "select font". i then change the "script" from "western" to any other, for example greek. the text is then readable. but i cannot save the setting and the problem reappears as soon as i open the file. as a matter of fact the problem reappears if i switch from text to hex mode and back again to text mode. the font i am using is courier new and works perfectly using wordpad so the font is not the problem. wnbrowse version 4.8b, using win98se.
