Have a batch file that runs drive mappings upon login. However, doesn't work reliably when logging in, but works great if the user runs it again after logging in. Any ideas what I should be looking for?

I recently had several Dell Optiplex GX270 and 280's crash each time a usb device was connected. I have ruled out malware etc. I uninstalled all patches from the last month. I even uninstalled most of the software on the system. If I uninstall all USB controllers from the device manager they are renumerated. However, if I plug a mouse into one port and it prompts for drivers which I install and then move the mouse to another port it prompts again for drivers. Before this problem you could move the mouse between ports and it didn't promt for drivers. I am using the mouse as an example. All USB devices act the same way. Need a bit of help. I've got a few DL380 G5's and i'm looking to take a 2k3 SP1 image of one build and blast them onto the rest of them. I've got laptops, crossover cables, usb keys, cd writers, usb hd's you name it to assist on the matter. But im not sure what software to image the drive and the best practise for doing it. I tried Ghost 12 but it doesnt work with 2k3. Can anyone point me in the right direction. Also does anyone know any repartition software that works in 2k3. Can provide more info if needed

Running xp pro sp2, single machine, no domain, & now need to enable a guest account, but i really don't like how guest has access to so many of my applications !!! Is there a way to restrict access to most but not all apps ??? Or is a dual boot the only way ??? Can this be done in Vista ??? thanks, mike.

On the startup of the system i obtain a messang in a windows error. Savedump.exe The dynamics library couldn' t found a link in symsetaddr64 for dbghelp.dll After i press "ok" button and all function correctly. What could i do for patch this? I have a P4 with windows XP home with all patch at2 june. Thanks

I hope someone can help me with this. It is quite odd. I have two offices. Office A and Office B. I regularly use VPN at both locations. Office A uses SBS 2000. During a storm Wednesday, we lost power several times within 60 seconds. After that happened, I discovered that I could access the server, get email (both POP3 and Exchange) but could not access the internet. I rebooted but that did not help. When I am connected to Office B server (just the first step; not remote desktop), I can then access the internet. The second problem is that when I am at Office B, I am now unable to remote deaktop to Office A. Does anyone have any suggestions??? Thanks in advance

windows xp starts then before it opens get blue screen and it starts over again tried to boot from xp pro disc and it starts loading then it says usbohci.sys is corrupted and shuts down set up wont boot in safe mode what do i do??

I have XP home ed on my laptop, running sp2 and all recent updates. I also have McAfee Virus Scan. It is detecting an unwanted program, drive cleaner, and cannot remove it. I next ran the scan in DOS. There are no virus detected, but it shows a problem with the boot sector. In reading McAfee hints, I followed the instruction to turn off System Restore before running the DOS scan. Now I have learned how System Restore works, because my first available restore date is the date I turned it back on. Can I rebuild my boot sector without doing a restore of XP? My disks are all sp1, of course. -- M. Kope

dell support update manager box keeps flashing that it is downloading although nothing is happing and i never agreed to download it.

Hi everyone, I'm a rookie IT/IM guy straight out of grad school working for Big Oil. my PC turns on(fans go, hard drives spin) immediately when i flip the power supply switch on the back of the power supply. usually i flip it which makes the mobo LEDs turn on, then press the button on the front of the case to actually turn the computer on. i dont know what would cause this to be. once i flip that switch and it turns on, nothing comes on the screen and the computer doesnt post. im thinking its some kind of bad power supply, or some sort of mobo problem controlling the power on and off or something. any suggestions?

i just brought a new hd a 120 gb one, and now when i try to install xp it keeps going through the whole installing windows xp them again and again, when i take the disk out it says please insert system diskette. i have checked the bios and chngd it so that it will boot from c drive after i think i have installed win xp but it still keeps giving me the same message. i am stuck and confused! HELP

Windows XP SP2 Device in Question: "Microsoft Wirelss Desktop Receiver 3.1" or any other "USB composite device" I have a problem with my system where it will not recognize devices that need to first be 'loaded' as a USB composite device. A good example is wirless receivers for keyboard/mouse combos. Neither Logitech nor Microsoft wireless combos work, I have to plug them directly into the ps2 ports. In trying this on another computer, I saw that it was first loaded as a USB composit device...I then tried to manually select the USB Composite Device driver on my problem computer - BUT, I don't have it. Recently, my emachine laptop started slowing down and I got lots of "OS not installed", and blue screens. And of course, I cannot locate the original cd that came with it. I defragged, cleaned up disk, removed all tmp files and even restored to previous point. I get a more stable environment, but still extremely, extremely slow. How can I fix this? It happened 2 other times, and I took to Best Buy and paid them to fix. They reinstalled OS and it cost me $200! I have copied all my docs, pics thankfully. I am trying to not have to take it to someone again, cause money is not available this time. Please help

I recently upgraded my video card from an Elsa Synergy II, 32 MB to a radeon 9250, 128 MB, of undetermined brand. After following all of the installation requirements the card performance on initial computer starts is very poor.The screen transitions almost bleed off the screen and when I scroll through documents there is a very noticeable lag. This problem resolves itself if I turn off all hardware accelaration or do a hot restart of the computer. I am using Win XP pro OS, have a Shuttle AV49PN motherboard with VIA PT800 chipset and have 1 gig of system ram. i have an hp pavilion 854n desktop, i run windows xp media center ed. i did a system restore, it said to restart, i did. it got to the "please wait while windows starts..............." screen and stayed there. after about 15 min i turn it off, turn it back on, and i get a black blank screen, no messages, no nothing. when i reboot it the hp screen comes on and then goes to the windows xp screen, then it goes black. any ides or suggestions would be great thanks.:confused:

Having an external USB disk which I want to make bootable. First, please NOTE that, YES, my motherboard does support booting from USB devices, also my usb hdd shows up in the "boot order" table if connected at power on, and I can select it if wanted, but it wont booot. Ahh, one more thing, partition 1 (FAT32) is also made active. Problem is. How can I make first partition a system partition while formatting??? Both win2k and WinXp lack this feature, Format command does no longer support the /S option (or it is hidden using another tag), and the sys cmd is not provided any longer either. Hi ... My understanding is with Vista we are only allow to transfer this operating system to another computer once ? If this is the case ? Then I feel Microsoft is screwing the consumers , I don't believe I will be buying Vista , You would have to be nuts to buy Vista under those conditions

I have a P4 2.66 with an 80 gb Hd and then i installed a second 80 gb samsung on an ide cable .. Was wondering why the capacity on slave drive "F" is only 31.4 gb .. I have tried moving jumpers around and even tried without jumpers and still reads the same 31.4 .. I'm not sure if its something that i done wrong or if windows only supports 31 gb ? Formatting the drive "F" did not help as i tried that approach .. I do know that if i put this same 80 gb drive in an external case that it read full 80 gb ...I do not want to use a case for my HD if i can help it .. Thx for any help on this ...:confused: :(
