Hope somebody can help. I set up my email account, messenger, etc., on my father in law's pc a few years ago. Neither of us were big users of the internet or even the pc for that matter but things have since changed. I now live elsewhere and have become more of a regular user of both. My father-in-law has started using his pc more often of late too but is running into problems. I think I need to clear/delete all my stuff from his system as it seems to be causing problems for both myself and him. If I am online and signed in on my pc with messenger it sometimes tells me that I am signed in on another pc. I recently set him up on his pc with a new email address and …

Hi, I have a user who downloaded itunes and made it the default music player. We have a phone system that requires that Windows Media player be the default player. When I go to a folder that has .wav files, they used to be Windows Media Player logos but are now iTunes logos. How do I change this back to Windows Media Player without removing iTunes? Thanks, -- Chuck W

XP Pro SP2. Since installing the last set of Windows updates I get a security warning dialog every time I try to run a program or open a file on a mapped drive. How can I disable all of these warnings and return to the old behavior? All I have found using Google groups are messages that say add the server to some zone in IE with no clue how to do it. I will do this for every computer on the networ if I must but what I really want is to configure Windows so that it will never display a warning for any file on any computer on the local area network. Thanks. -- ..Bill.

Ok this is my situation: I am running Windows XP which was installed from a CD that was pirated. Now I would like to have the SP1 and SP2 updates, and obviously I cant due to the invalid product key. I also have an authentic 'Windows XP w/SP2' CD that I bought, and would like to install. Can I simply reinstall this authentic 'Windows XP w/SP2' over my existing windows without losing any files? Also since my current version of windows does not have SP1, can I automaticcaly go from no service packs to SP2 or do I to have SP1 already installed in order to go to SP2. Basically does SP2 contain everything SP1 does and then somemore? How exactly do I go about installing…

I have an authentic 'Windows XP w/SP2' CD that I bought to convert my laptop from Windows ME. I also have a desktop computer that has an old version of Windows XP on it. I tried to bring it up to service pack 2 by downloading and running many separate little .exe files from Microsoft. This didn't work out very well. The desktop unit still has quirks especially the way it doesn't let Windows Media Player work. My question is this: Can I reuse my XP / SP2 CD on my desktop computer? All versions of everything are legal and paid for. If the answer is yes, are there any precautions I should take regarding backing up any files? Thanks in advance for you help, Keith

I've had desktop shortcuts to frequently used folders since the day the Earth cooled. Today, none of them work - that is, clicking on the shortcuts produces a long pause, then nothing. I even recreated several with the same result. Shortcuts to websites work normally I can't for the life of me think of what I could have done to cause this. -- PT

Hello all, On an XP Pro computer, I opened the network connexion properties - to find that even if I was connected only for a few minutes, the number of "sent" packets were in the hundred of billion range while the recieved packets were under a thousand. The computer is connected to a router to share internet connection. No know networt or net intensive program is running. Usual scans for viruses, trojan or other malware gave no result. Any idea on what's happening or where to start looking for the cause of this issue ? Thanks

OK. After posting "Cannot Remove Flashplayer," earlier, I thought I'd post the answer I found from adobe.com, since I did not get a correct solution from this newsgroup. URL: http://www.adobe.com/go/tn_14157 From that page you can download a program for removing this bothersome set of files. In my case, I wanted to remove an installation of Windows, but could not delete the Flashplayer associated files, regardless! From that page: Download the Adobe Flash Player uninstaller: a.. Windows: uninstall_flash_player.exe (136 KB) (updated 4/12/07) Note: If you have a Windows Flash Player uninstaller downloaded prior to April 12, 2007 on your desktop, then pl…

Is there a tool that enables me to detect if a website I am visiting, I visited before? Basically, if I visit the site, then visit the same site a second time, the tool tells me. The browser color-codes a visited link, but the color goes away, but this does not work when clicking a picture or a java button. Please let me know a tool that can help me. Thank you

Hi Sorry for posting to so many NGs. This is just so strange that I don't know what to do and am looking for any help I can get. A client has reported a strange problem. According to her, she leaned on her Dell win xp desktop keyboard by mistake and some keys were pressed which caused the screen image to rotate 90 degrees. She does not know which keys were pressed. To compensate for rotated image, she has rotated her monitor 90 degrees in the other direction and is working like this at the moment. Does anyone know what may have caused this and what is the solution? Thanks Regards
