In my package tray, my network Icon for a wireless connection shows "x" out, disconnected, when I really am connected. When I view all avaialbe wireless networks, it shows connected. If I launch My Network Places, it shows no connected. I really am connected to the internet, as you can see by this posting! Please help.

It seems more than my Old DvD driver was broken.. my new one doesn't want to instal.. I try using the automatic install feature but It dosn't work. Manual wont fuction becuase it asks my to contact hard support.. but Microsoft doesn't have any support fuctions for private. I go into manual configure and when I select search for installed compont not listed It gives an error about unable to install tape driver.. My computer says my regs is fine and disabled my anit-virus durring the install... any Ideas while I wait for HP to send me an email about my non fuctiooning but brand new dvd drive

There are a few people who can log on to my computer. All of their information and folders are there when they log on, When i log on, my desktop screen comes up, but when i click on IE or my itunes, nothing happens. When i go to 'All Programs' from my start menu, the pop-up screen is clear and the whole screen freezes. When i look on 'My Computer' i see the folders of everyone else except for mine. However, when i backed up the computer, my files showed up on the screen during the back-up so they have to be still there. Please someone help!!

Just put a new hard drive in my desktop. Using Windows XP on the desktop and Vista on my wireless laptop. No problem with the laptop. It connects through the wireless connection just fine and I can surf all I want. After loading up XP I wanted to do all the update downloads and this is when I noticed I have no connection. The desktop has an onboard LAN connected to a DLink router. Nothing. I tried going directly from my cable modem in the desktop and still nothing. When I go to Network Connections, there are none!! When I go through the New connection Wizard and select Connect to the Internet, Setup my connection manually, and connect using a broadband …

For some reason the pages visited are no longer marked. Not sure the technical term but , for instance. when you select a page from a Google search it changes color and stays that way so you can see which pages you have already opened. Now hte color returns to the original with no indication of which pages were visited. What happened? How can this be fixed? Thanks for any help John

Hi, My installation CD for XP Pro is a pre-SP2. How can I create a new installation CD that already includes SP2 (and preferably also the latest security updates). I have found some info on how to slipstream sp2 but nothing on how to merge it to a new installtion CD. Any doc or kb explaining how to do this? Thank you

Hi, I get a message on an old installation of XP Home that 'Windows needs to be activated'. This follows a major crash, where the power-supply and motherboard bundle had to be replaced because the machine wouldn't boot at all. When I click 'OK', the machine things for a few seconds and then tells me that Windows is already activated ... pressing 'OK' takes me back to the log-in screen. I can get into Windows OK through Safe Mode, where the message doesn't appear - but not through Nomal Mode. I will be receiving delivery next week of the HP Pavillion Media Center PC with Windows XP OS installed. I had previously posted the problem of finding a new HP computer without Vista. But was able to find via BUY.COM an HP computer with XP installed. I presently have windows xp on my old computer. What would the easiest way be to leave the XP system as it is in the new computer but transfer all of the applications programs from the old computer to the new computer? I know how to attach the old computers hard drive to the new computer using a drive enclosure with a USB attachment. I also know how to erase the complete contents of the new computer's …

I am setting up a computer for someone and i copy there personal folders to the new computer from the old computer over the network. my question is is there a folder that you can copy that has all the installed network printers on the old computer so that they will they be installed on the new computer

Hello I have xp home with sp2. When I search for something for example in Google it keeps a history of everything I search for. So next time I do a fresh search a long list of previous searches appear when I click the Search box. I do not want this history displayed. How can I delete it so it does not save anymore. Thank you. If I already have a W2K3 Enterprise PDC with 25 CAL's that I purchased a year ago, is it legal to purchase another W2K3 Enterprise edition with 25 CAL's from another vendor, install it on another domain controller joined to the same domain as the first and consider that I have 50 CAL's in the same domain? I know the math works, I just don't know if it's legal according to MS licensing. In other words, can you just keep buying server editions with CAL's and adding them to your domain w/o buying CAL's by themselves? I think the answer is yes, Microsoft is still getting their money by buying the server editions.

My first domain controller when belly up on me and I'm not planning on trying to fix it. I have a 2nd domain controller that is working fine but now I need to transfer the OM to this server. Can I assume its ok to just do this or is there anything else I need to be aware of before doing it. I have a problem I need some help with. When my computer boots, everything is normal until the desktop appears. The first display window that appears is: Window Installer - Preparing to install. Next is Scan - Please wait while Windows configures scan. The feature you are trying to use is on a CD-ROM on another removable disk that is not available. Insert scan disk and click OK. I insert the software disk that was with my printer ( or other software eg., Microsoft Picture-It) and the process is completed. The next time I boot the computer the same problem happens. Hello, I hope someone can help me. I run Windows XP on a Packard Bell Easynote laptop. The laptop is 2 years old. I have an error message in device driver for the CD?DVD driver: Windows successfully loaded the device driver for this hardware but cannot find the hardware device. (CODE 41). When i uninstall the driver, and run the "add hardware wizard" i get the error message: A problem occurred during hardware installation. Your hardware may not work properly. Does anyone have any ideas how i can solve this problem as it means i cannot use my integral CD/DVD drive. Thanks for any help.

I need to have a batch file (.bat or .cmd) run before I login to the server...is that possible? my problem is that I need to have several groupwise pos office files load on boot up and not as a service. they need to be loaded @bootup. I have the .bat file in "startup" but it only runs when I login. is there a way that it can run when the system starts up and necessary when logging in?

I'm on a server running Windows Server 2003 SP2, with SQL Server 2005 and Citrix installed. We have an application that is hosted on a file server that I need to run on the server. When I try to run it as anyone but an administrator, I'm getting: "Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item." Except I do have permission. I have 15 workstations that run programs from this server every day. I checked the effective permissions in the security tab and they tell me I have Read & execute permission. (I have "Everyone" set to full control for the entire share.) I can read files …

Hi!! I new here! I'm using a laptop with XP and I have a problem when some windows are opened. The "ok" and "cancel" buttons are displayed blank or empty. When I want to open a file, the “open and “cancel†buttons are empty. Just the tab shows in blank. Some web pages I cannot fully see and when I open the Preferences window some parts are just blank.
