I've got a typesetting machine running Adobe Creative Suite 1 and PageMaker and I can not get any application to recognize CTL+SHIFT+I and italicize type. It's not the font. I've tried it with several fonts including the plain old Times New Roman that comes with Windows and it won't work. CTL+SHIFT+B works as do all the other shortcuts. I've been to the Adobe forums and we've tried a few things including deleting the old preferences file with no luck. Any ideas on what the problem could be? Thanks, Mike

Hi, I'm running two HP Compaq nc6000s that I bought from work. Recently, I've been getting the following message on both: The system process 'C:\WINDOWS\system32\services.exe' terminated unexpectedly with status code -1. The system will now shut down and restart. After that, it pops up a window with the infamous 60 second countdown to shutdown. I heard it could be a virus, but I checked with the Norton Sasser tool: no go. Any ideas?

I have HP LaserJet 5L attached to LPT1: WinXP installs some built-in generic driver for this printer [not a good driver since it continually overruns the memory of the printer and often fails to print, just locks up] I downloaded a more appropriate driver for the HP5L, removed the first one, installed the better one, made it the default printer, and have NEVER had a problem printing using it. However,...WinXP in its benevolence keeps installing the old driver and apparaently adding that as another printer. How do I stop this? so far, I just keep deleting the extra one, but that's becoming a big nuisance. At least when the new on is added, the prefe…

How can I get background tasks to run? If I have a program which is running (perhaps creating an index from a lot of files or whatever) then it will only do its work if it is in the *foreground* and in the active window. As soon as the window goes from the foreground then its activity will drop to zero. This happens even if there is no foreground activity at all. For example if I open Windows Explorer or Notepad then all systen activity goes to almost zero. I observe see this in a utility's icon in the systen tray. How can I get background tasks to run?

I recently posted about a problem we were having with one specific account on a Windows XP SP2 computer. When logging into the account, the user would immediately be logged back out. This was due to a damaged registry file. Following the instructions on a knowledgebase article, I created a new account and moved all the files to the new account folder, except for three ntuser files. Now, when logging onto this account, none of the icons show up. The text below the icons is fine, but there is just a blank space where the icons should be. This occurs on the desktop, control panel... everywhere. Just prior to this, I had removed some desktop modification soft…

To test an application I built a MS 2003 Server using a 2003 Server evaluation copy. Now that we have completed the testing the server and application is working fine. I would like to make this a production server now. I purchased a new copy of MS Server 2003 Enterprise and would like to use this license without having to rebuild the server. Is there a process to apply the new license I purchased to the existing evaluation copy? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

If you open up your Local Area Connection, then click on Properties, then select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and click Properties, then click Advanced, then click on the Options tab and select TCP/IP filtering, and then click on Properties, there is a checkbox that says "Enable TCP/IP Filtering (All adapters)". What if I checked that box but left all 3 radio buttons set to "Permit All"? Is that the same as leaving the box unchecked?

Not sure where to post this, but since I installed Office 2007 on a users computer, they can no longer save files to their mapped drive to the server. They receive the error: Access denied, contact your administrator. If I grant the user 'modify' permissions, they are able to save, but I do not want to do this b/c they are then able to delete files which I do not want them to be able to do. Anyone come across this or can offer any help?
