I am just learning about server 2003, and have a few questions that don't seem to be addressed in books. 1. When do I need to have the server in a domain and not a workgroup. I only need to network 5 computers and was told that using a workgroup is much easier. 2. If I use a workgroup and not a domain or active directory, then do I need to install DNS. 3. Why or when would I want or need to go more advance and use a domain, AD and DNS? Thanks, Fitz

When attempting to run GPRESULT I'm getting an access denied message. I'm running GPRESULT directly on the server using an account with domain and local administrative privileges. The server is a Windows 2003 SP1 (member server) which is joined to a Windows 2000 domain in Native mode. I also get access denied when running RSOP on the server. Any ideas?

I have installed RockN Editor using my admin account in XP. It does run properly. In my non-admin account the program does not seem to run. In the task manager I can see the program momentarily appear and then disappear. The vendor categorically says his program should run under all accounts. Do I have a problem? -- Rick

Hi, I experience major problems with getting a AC 97 system up and running under Vista. I have a Gigabyte sinxp1394 Mobo with AC97 chipset and Vista ultimate. I upgraded the driver with the realtek 6.0.6243 version I downloaded from Realtek. Recording turned out to be impossible in an erratic way. Nor the build in sound recorder, The Microsoft media 9 encoder or Adobe Audigy see the mixer. After letting Windows sort out a new driver Windows installed the 5.0.6150 version of a Microsoft distributed Realtek driver. Now the standard sound recorder is able to see the stereo mixer I appointed as default recording device, but the Microsoft Media encoder doe…

In Vista,Windows Updates is set to download only the files which need to be updated ! eg if xyz.dll needs to be updated, then only this particular file will get downloaded from the Microsoft servers. But if you wish to, then here are two ways I know of where you can download and save Windows Updates for Vista. However the discussion is applicable for all versions of Windows. You only need to use the applicable Update List. Go to the Windows Update Catalog BETA site http://test.catalog.update.microsoft.com/v7/site/Home.aspx and click on Find Updates. Select the Vista (or appropriate version of Windows). Search or click on Advanced Search if you wan…

We have 3 PC's at home. We each have a copy of the XP CD, all purchased and real. My 12 year old has had problems requiring frequent reinstall's etc. I suspect she gets nasty files via chat. Anyway. She now gets a message saying the CD has been used too many times and cannot be used again. Why? We paid for it? How do I fix this, or rather how does Microsoft fix this. My 12 year old's immediate reaction was "Why do we use this platform if they cheat us out of our software?". Help!

When I was looking through my new choices of desktops and themes for my laptop, I noticed that there's a seperate category with 9 selections. "Vistas." Are these any different than a regular background, and if so, why are they filed seperately? Thanks in advance!

In Windows XP - and as far back as I can remember I could always sort by the file creation date, which I depend on to look at pictures or videos. In Vista I used Movie maker to store some videos, but when I open the folder the date fields on all of the videos is blank. I have to look at each file (over 400) one by one and right click on properties to find the creation date. This is such a simple thing I hate to ask how to do it, but what am I missing here? Thanks

Well, tried the newest SB XiFi drivers from Symantec, still no supported hardware detected. Removed all Vista Drivers for the card and everything. I guess on my Desktop I am going to give up on Vista. Have tried numerous suggestions but still no go on it. Makes no sense to me. Even went o Dell's site to see if they had something since Vista is supported on my system, still nothing. Grumble, any other ideas?

Hello. I have heard that there is a Ultimate Extra caleld Dream Scene. When I search for it in the internet, I found some pages. Most of them said that I can find it when I update Vista. I couldn't. Then I've read that I have to install the english languagepack to get the updates. After installing it I got Poker and Bitlocker. But I still didn't get Dream Scene. Is here any buddy who can tell me what I did wrong? Or is there an other way to get it except of Vista Updates? Please help me because I find the update really interesting. Thanks so far.

Hi all We have a network of about 200 pc's. Approx 70 of them are directly connected to the servers (LAN) and the rest use their internet to connect to the exchange server. We have Cisco 1800 series router that we use for voice and data. We have VPN tunnels that has been setup for the voice side; that i use to connect to the sites remotely via Remote Desktop. Some one has recommended the software below. Will this make my network vulnerable and provide gaps for outsiders or is it a handy tool to have and use: https://secure.logmein.com/products/hamachi/vpn.asp Pls ask if you need more info. Thanks for trying to help
