After years of using my PC without this problem, I now find my Date and Time have changed and I'm unauthorized to correct it. At some point yesterday the date and time on my PC reverted to April '03 and when I went into Control Panel to change the Date/Time, I got the notice "You do not have the proper privilege level to change the system time". I'm pretty computer illiterate so if anyone can help me, I'll need "dummy" type instruction. Any and all help is appreciated.

Is there any way to schedule backups without setting a password on the user account? There is only one account on the machine.

Since installing Vista Home Premium copying files from one hard drive to another seems to takes forever. A 20meg file in XP would copy instant, but with Vista it goes through all this calculating time crap and then it can take up to 10 seconds to copy. I have installed the patch Windows6.0-KB931770-x64.msu but that does not help.

Upon booting, computer asks to pick an operating system. It lists 2 seemingly identical versions of Windows XP. Its possible extra version installed while trying to "repair" original version. How can this be remedied? Any guidance will be appreciated. Thank you.

I have had this problem for about a week now. When I boot up my machine I get an error box... Microsoft Windows The system has recovered from a serious error. If I close this box the machine will reboot. If i push it off to the side and open files or internet it will stay open but sometimes I will get a surprise reboot. There is a file that is put in the temp directory but don't believe it gives any real information. I have noticed in my startup something that keeps showing up after this problem even when I delete it "Kernel Fault Check". Sometimes when I delete it my machine will work for a little while but eventually comes back and machine reboots. I've…

Hi. I have the WXP Pro. edition and I am asking two questions. Firstly, the Floppy Disk drive had deleted itself from my computer and I am unable to enable this function. I have recently re-installed this WXP Pro. edition twice with the updates from the Microsoft Windows Update website. And, still I have no A drive. 1) Why is this so? 2) How do I enable this function? Thanks -- --

When installing Windows 98 SE using the original CD ROM, I get his message: Not enough space on D To install Win 98 on drive C, you need 21 mb of space on D. D has only 1.4 mb To take care of this problem, please remove some files from hard drive. Hard drive is drive C. How would that free up space on D? Actually, there is no drive D, unless it is some sort of virtual drive. When partitioning the hard drive, I put everything in C. In other words, i did not create two partitions on the hard drive. Is that not acceptable and causing the problem? Thanks Satish

I just build a new machine and installed Home Premium. I use to have an older machine with XP Pro. There were some snap-ins that seem to be not in the Home Premium version. I want to be able to control certain things like locking the system out when passwords fail after 3 attempts, and clearing page files on exit. Would these snap in only be in the Ultimate version?

I have put in a new Domain Controller (newDC) into our network but are having problems with the old Domain Controller (oldDC) replicating sysvol to newDC. The ultimate goal that I'm trying to achieve here is to be able to shut down oldDC and have newDC take over (eventually having oldDC only as a backup). As of right now, the issue lies when I shut down oldDC I start to run into problems with the active directory (such as not being able to edit any users info, it just hangs for a few seconds as if it's still trying to talk to oldDC). ---------------------- Event Viewer Logs: ---------------------- On newDC, I only get two errors (but I think the problem l…

I just installed Vista Home Premium and every time I turn on my pc, an icon is placed on the taskbar telling me to safely remove hardware. The first round of messages pertained to my card reader slots (which I use) and now it's telling me to safely remove my USB mass storage device. How do I get rid of these taskbar messages on every bootup? Thanks for any suggestions. Pat

I have a client that has a WINDOWS 98SE Laptop. He has been using the laptop for years to connect to a handful of XP Pro computers using the Win98 RD Client. Suddenly he is getting the message "The client could not connect to the remote computer ..." on about 50% of the computers he tries to connect to. These are computers that he was previously able to connect with. If I try to connect to these unreachable machines using an XP box I am able to make the connection. Nothing has changed on his end, and the connections are actually saved as shortcuts (I have tried re-creating them on the fly, but this didn't help). Has some windows update occurred on the remo…
