Hi, I have been thinking about drive imaging software to use for backup, but I am concerned about the ability to restore an image after a hardware failure. If I create an image with say Norton Ghost, then have a motherboard failure, and have to replace it, if I then try to restore the image, am I right in thinking Windows will need to be reactivated? Then if I am using an OEM version, the licence would not cover me for a new motherboard? If so, I then have an image that I cannot use unless I can get hold of a motherboard of the exact same make & model. I hope that is not too confusing - I think I may be a little confused here myself, which doesn't help…

I just purchased a Seagate FreeAgent external hard drive with USB 2.0. When I hook it up to my system (nvidia 680sli motherboard) the transfer speed is only 28.5-29 MBs. The documentation that comes with the external drive says that USB 2.0 can transfer at a rate of 400 MBs. Why the extreme discrepency between what is written on the docs and actual use with Vista Ultimate? My machine has 4GB of RAM, a 2.4 GHz dual core processor, so it is fast enuf. Anyone have an explanation? Thanks

I recently purchased a Dell E520 dual core with Vista installed. Every time I start my PC it comes up with four Phantom Removable drives connected to the USB ports. The option to remove those drives is in the tray and easily removed, but I would like to find a way to prevent it from happening to begin with. Is there a way to set this so it does not happen? Thank you, Richard..

I have windows xp and when I shut down a window pops up and says something like "End Task Network Connections" and after I close that, then another one pops up and says something about "end task Pro Wireless...." I do have a wireless router. I don't know why I am getting these messages. I think they started after I set up outlook to be my email (I use msn for email). How can I get these to stop popping up? They are annoying. Thank you.

Hello I am building a new system, I have Vista ultimate and XP Pro. I want them on separate hard drives. I have been told to install XP on one HD, then while installing Vista it will ask me where to put it, and just direct it to the second HD. Any thoughts or suggestion are appreciated. Richard

Hi, I have Windows XP Pro X64. I checked Windows Task Manager and discovered that my computer is using "iexplore.exe *32" instead of *64. I get automatic updates so I'm sure that my computer is up-to-date. When is an X64 version expected to come out? -- Denise ~ If you don't know where you came from, you won't know where you're going.

Hi, Has anyone had any issues trying to install the new Adobe update? I have spoken to their support team and they've told me it's a Microsfot issue. I'm unable to edit a key in the resgitry as it keeps asking if I have permission to do so. I'm logged on as administrator, it's a stand alone pc at home and I've installed loads of downloads and programmes before this. The exact text of the error message is: Error 1406. Could not write value to key \Software\Classes\TypeLib\{5F226421-415D-408D-9A09-0DCD94E25B48} Please help as I'm at my wits end trying to resolve this.

I get an error message #80042301 when attempting backups. I have checked the registry for HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\ContentIndex\Catalogs\System and HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\ContentIndex\Catalogs\Web and all the settings are correct. the application log has a slew of errors, some are (source, event #) vss, 8193;Perflib,2002;vss,5013;vss,12291;ntbackup,8018;ntbackup,8019. I have a 3 year old dell dimension 4700 pent 4 with 1 gig of ram and windows xp home edition. When I attempt to log off, it will take about 3 minutes after I click the turn off computer icon to get to the restart/turn off screen and an addition two minutes to acctually shut down. When I restart the next time some of the desktop icons will rearrainge themselves. Are these problems related or are they seperate issues. Can you help? JIMJ

After years of using my PC without this problem, I now find my Date and Time have changed and I'm unauthorized to correct it. At some point yesterday the date and time on my PC reverted to April '03 and when I went into Control Panel to change the Date/Time, I got the notice "You do not have the proper privilege level to change the system time". I'm pretty computer illiterate so if anyone can help me, I'll need "dummy" type instruction. Any and all help is appreciated.
