I'm running SBS 2003 with SP2. I'm running a VPN and OWA...I have two NIC cards. I'm using a Cisco Router/Firewall that is translating the Public IP addresses of the VPN and E-Mail to their Private IP addresses. This works...usually. Intermittently, the services are not accessible to users outside of the network. When this happens, I'm not able to ping the Public IPs of the VPN and OWA from outside of my network. I'm able to ping the Router's Public IP as well as my PBX which has a Public IP that is translated to it's internal address. So, I think this eliminates the router as the cause. Event viewer has shown nothing unusual. Any suggestions?

Hi, I upgrade many servers "2003 SP2 standard" to "2003 SP2 R2 standard" - without any problem. A handfull of machines failes with an error "An Application is running - Reboot before install" (free translated from German). The reboot did not repair this problem. I stop many services and tasks but the problem is the same. Strangely is the fact all machines use same configuration (hardware, software like SMS and RIS/WDS). Which application cancel the installation of R2? Is there a list of applications wich setup2.exe checks before continue? Thx, TH PS: The server configuration page is closed (hta)

Can anybody recommend encryption software, compatible with Vista. that can be used by persons without a PhD in cryptography? I have tried Advanced Encryption Package (AEP) 2007 Professional and the latest version of PGP. Both come with insufficient documentation (what there is written is either erroneous or itself encrypted with gobbledygook) and little or no technical support. . I just need sufficient documentation to protect my financial and personal files from hackers and thieves.

Hi I am using Windows XP Pro. When I purchased my laptop last year, someone transferred all my settings and files from my old laptop. I find that I have to log on as user, not Administrator. That has not been a problem. However, I now wish to change the user password and would prefer that I be the Administrator rather than the user - after all, I am the only person using my laptop and all the files are mine. Is this possible, and, if so, how do I go about it? I am terrified of locking myself out of all my files! Also, I would like to set up a guest account which my overseas friends can use when they visit. Any assistance would be most appreciated. Ma…

I'd like to create a Scheduled task to create a system restore point once a day, probably overnight (PC is always on, desktop). Is there a command line command that I could use? Would it actually buy me anything, or have I made some witless blunder? It seems likely that I've blundered, because there is only one day in the last month that does not contain a restore point, so what might be creating them? -- Steve Swift http://www.swiftys.org.uk/swifty.html http://www.ringers.org.uk

Hi -- Be gentle, please. I'm not a techie and I'm pathetically old besides. My desktop computer is a 3.0ghz P4 with 1GB ram and plenty of GBs of unused space. The OS is WinXP Pro with SP2. I've used a powered 4-port USB hub for years. Recently I bought a second one and connected the second hub to the first. I did not connect the power supply to the second hub because, when I asked the vendor's tech support representative if both power supplies needed to be plugged in, he told me no, that Windows would notify me if more power was needed. I connected a new webcam to the second USB hub. Everything seemed to work fine until I installed encoder softwar…

Doing my bi-monthly system scan with Computer Associates AV program there were 7 items detected. Two were deleted but these 5 remain: mIRC/IRCflood.c mIRC/Backdoor!generic mIRC/IRCFlood win32/IRCFlood mIRC/IRCFlood What are these? Are they spyware or viruses? The AV says "infected" . I ran Ad-Aware 2007 and it crashes as soon as it gets to Inproc32. Spybot finds nothing. Swat-It finds nothing. Spywareblaster stopped nothing. The AV is updated daily and the others checked every couple of days. Would appreciate any advice. Thank you, Steve T.
