Windows Vista (formerly code named Longhorn) is the next evolution of Microsoft's operating system. Can I do a system restore on a Win 2003 R2 server? I'm guessing the answer is no... and... If not, is there a way to a Windows "fix" like you can with XP? I'm getting some ethernet controller errors, that I'm hoping to able to fix quickly and easily. If both the above answers are no - I'll do some more research... -- Cindy

I've been using Vista for almost a month and liked the feature of Snipshots (not sure of the name) to take customized screen shoots, but (probably, I will get flamed for this) in MacOSX Tiger besides the application for taking screenshots there is also a key shortcut to take a customized screenshot and automatically convert that image into a jpeg or tiff without user intervention, you simply select with the cursor the zone you want to snap in and when you finish select it automaticaly appeas in the desktop the file of that jpeg. Is there a similar way in vista to take snapshots?

We purchased 10 Open License TSE Cals and installed and activated the license server and all is well with that. However the new clients are still grabbing the temporary licenses. I have gone to HKEY Local Machine\Software\Microsoft\MSLicensing and deleted that whole key. However when device connects to the Terminal Server again it grabs another Temp License. How do we stop this? We purchased Device CALs. Thanks Shaun

Hi, I have a couple of questions on setting up NTFS security. First when a user creates a directory under a folder I share, he is the owner of the folder and can remove admins form the ntfs security. Can i stop this and how. Second i'm having troubles setting NTFS security on files or folders that exceed a depth of 256 characters. I simply get access denied. Can i changes this? Third is ther a way to propegate permissions to sub directory's even if i don't have ownership on the folder. I hope my questions are clear and if not i'm alway willing to elaborate on them. Kind regards, Frederik De Muyter.

Hi People, I have 3 server, 1 SBS 2000, 1 TS Server (W2K) and 1 APP Server (W2K). After playing with the TS Server for over 90 days.....its now locked. Now when I go to install the TS Licensing Server on the SBS 2000 Server I get the screen with 'Terminal Server is currently configured to use - Remote Administration'. Now do I leave this as it is or choose Applications Server Mode?. The main reason I ask is that I use the remote TS admin a lot and dont want to lose it. Many thanks for your help.

I am trying to use the files and settings transfer wizard, and on the new computer I get the following message: "The location that you specified does not contain stored information. Please type a valid folder path into the edit box. If you entered a path to a folder on a removable disk, the disk must be in the drive." I can see the collected data with my eyes, so why does not the new pc? I followed the steps as instructed, so what am I doing wrong? Any help would be great. Thank you.

Hello, A while back I set up a Windows Server 2003 system. It had a domain controller and DNS server installed. It served clients fine with logon/logoff scripts and group policy working fine. I reset up the server at a later date with SP2, it runs IIS, a Domain Controller, and DNS Server. What I am about do describe is extremely strange: I set logon, logoff scripts in Group Policy. Of course, I refreshed the group policy and restarted the server and client. Windows XP logs on with no error and group policy is not obeyed. So I set local group policy on that client machine, with logoff, logon scripts and other settings. I refreshed the policy and restar…

Hi, well, recently I downloaded and installed an upgrade for MSN Messenger Plus. Everything was fine until it tried logging back in. It would report an error and when I tried to trouble it said that there might be an improper firewall setting. I was wondering if opening up a port would make it work, and if so, how to accomplish that. thanks in advance for any help.

Here's a poser. When I activate the HT in BIOS on my 3.06 P4 northridge (recently upgraded from a non HT CPU) it causes the keyboard to effect other programs, specifically the music from any media based application. The symptoms are like one key is overloading whatever cache and causes the music to stutter. When HT is off, things are back to normal. I have the most recent BIOS, XP updates, keyboard drivers, etc. Any ideas? -- Mattu

Hi there all I have a number of computers with multiple users on each machine, that need access to a printer that is attached to one of the machines and shared out. e.g. PC1 has the printer physically attached and shared. All users of PC2, PC3 & PC4 need access to the printer. I have discovered that if I place the users of PC2,...,PC4 in the local administrators group for each machine, I can log in with local admin rights, navigate to the printer e.g. \\pc1\Printers and Faxs \LocallyAttachedPrinter right click on icon and place a shortcut on my desktop. I can than copy this shortcut to C:\Documents and Settings \All Users\Desktop. The idea is that by doubl…
