XP Pro, SP2 I have 4GB RAM. XP says not. I have read the Service Note that says why, but that doesn't help much. I want to assign 2GB to Photoshop, however, PS says that there is less than 2 available and suggest assigning no more than 1.232 Should I simply ignore this and assign 2 to PS? If not, how do I fix this?

All, Got a strange one on a Win2k3SP1/Exch2k3SP2 server. All of the Performance Monitor/WMI counters appear to have lost their labels. If I fire up PerfMon, I get nothing on the initial graph. If I try to add a counter, I get a choice of Performance Objects, each of which contains a number of individual counters... but they're all only identified by numbers. I can't actually add any of them to the graph. I can add counters from other machines to PerfMon on this machine fine, though. Admin Tools/Computer Management/Services & Apps/WMI Control/Properties gives me the correct details. I've tried running Exctrlst.exe from the Support tools, and it c…

For a dual boot Windows system, for Win2k and WinXP, is there any way to avoid dual installations of apps? E.g., Adobe Acrobat Reader, is there a way of avoiding having to install the reader for both systems so as to avoid doubling the apps space on HD? Thanks, r.a.

Hello , I recently installed this program. When i opened it it said me that windows had blocked it and gave me two options : Keep Blocking and Allow Program. Maybe you might recognize this because windows shows you this screen quite often. I clicked on Keep Blocking by mistake. Now everytime i want to open the program the computer just does nothing , doesn't open the program. I tried to reinstall it , but it stills keep blocked. I also put the program with the list of permitted programs in the windows firewall option. It still doesn't open ... My question : Where can you find the function to deactivate the blocking of this program ? ( As already …

If I run the following script in a directory with two files named test1.txt & test2.txt, FILELIST should have the value of "Test2.txtTest1.txtNOFILES". Instead it has the value of "Test2.TxtNOFILES". Can any one tell me why? Or how to get it to work correctly? @SET FILELIST=NOFILES @for %%f in (*.txt) do @( @echo %%f @set FILELIST= %%f%FILELIST% @echo %FILELIST% ) Thanks,

I installed Microsoft Robotics Studio (MSRS) many times, and most of them I got this "Rename temp file failed" error during the setup (even though it happened to work a few times). Do you know how to solve this problem? I remember that once I uninstalled it after getting that error, and reinstalled it in D:\ instead of C:, and that time it worked. The only difference between C and D is that my C drive is FAT32 whereas D is in NTFS. Do you think this could be a problem? Please let me know, since I really need this to work these days... (for more info: http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=1815099&SiteID=1) Thanks in advance, Alberto

Hi newsgroup. There is an annoyance with XP, that I noticed already years ago.. but I never decided to to something about it. Until now. OK: when you change the volume level (with sndvol32.exe) of the general channel (not wave, sw-synthesizer etc. but the one the far left), it will cause a "beep" of the system speaker. Of course, everything works ok, and I noticed that not only on this PC, it seems to be by design. That behavior never occured with earlier windows versions. So, how to turn that beep off? It's very distracting.

My entire screen looks like it's either been horizontally stretched or vertically squished. The fonts are all fatter and shorter than normal, pictures are wider and shorter than normal, everything's stretched out. I've tried refreshing, turning off the computer, and changing the resolution. Also, there are seemingly random lines on the screen that are blurry and fuzzy. This happened to my computer once a month ago, but resolved itself when I restarted the computer.

I have a usb label printer that functioned properly for almost a year. It is now no longer recognzed by Windows. When I plug it into a USB port on the computer (I have tried several of them), I no longer get the hardware found notification sound, the device is no longer shown in Device Manager and is not in the safely remove hardware listing in the task bar. All of my other USB devices are working fine. As I said, I have tried different ports, different USB cables with no success. I also plugged the device into my laptop and it works properly. What to do?
