I have 1GB RAM and the virtual memory setting is 2.5GB, but I find some programs won't start and I get Not enough memory errors when only around 780mb of VM is used! Since this has only just started and I have already removed some programs from Start-up I am thinking there is a problem. Does anyone have any idea why my full 2.5GB of VM is not used? Thank-you Nigel

Hello Everyone! First time posting and ofcourse its cause i'm in a jam I think i have it figured out that it is a csrss.exe that is causing the error but i am not sure and plus, i really dont know what to do about it. I would re-install normally but time is of the essence and alot of very special configs have to be redone (so much CAD stuff...ouch). Can someone help me avoid the -Format- option? Hello newsgroup. Here I got Vista Home Premium Upgrade, and want to install it. I have XP Professional, So I need to do an clean-install. Following question: I read that Vista Upgrade invalidates your XP Key: http://www.neowin.net/index.php?act=view&id=37676 Is that a stupid rumour, is that indeed the case? And, does it do that even when using the clean-install option? (i.e.: you have Vista Home premium upgrade, but your installed XP is professional) If yes, how does it even work? Is it sending the xp key to MS after install, to blackmail it?

Hi, It may not be a problem and Nero or other burning softwares recognizes my real DVD-RW as DVD-RW in W2k, but i see my DVD burner as "CD-ROM" drive in "my computer". There's no recognition problem but in XP DVD burner is recognized as DVD-RW, but in W2k pro+SP4 my DVD burner is shown as "CD-ROM" in "My computer". Is it normal and why? Thank you.

I am running XP MCE with a ASUS motherboard that supports 4 SATAII hard drives. I currently have drives C, and D. I purchased a new Western Digital 500gb. SATAII hard drive and installed it as my third drive. The BIOS shows the new drive correctly, and when XP comes up, I see it in Device Manager. However, the new drive is not visible in My Computer of in Windows Explorer. After much putzing around, I swapped out my original 'D' drive with my new drive, and I have the same problem. It's in the BIOS and Device Manager, but not visible in Explorer. The motherboard does support SATAII with the 3gb/s transfer rate, but after reading a tip on the WD site about old…

I have been having some issues with a nasty pop-up issue in IE7 and I thought possibly I could resolve the problem by restoring my system. When I try to do a System Restore it tells me "System Restore Application has encountered a problem and needs to close." I have tried to go from Safe Mode but to no availe. I am on XP Pro SP2. I have recently installed a beta version of McAffee. (Don't know if the latter has anything to do with it.) It's been a couple months since I have had to use Restore. Thanks for looking at my problem. Any suggestions on the popup issue woud also be helpful.

I have partitioned my disk in two, a 10GB for WinXP and the rest for stuff in general. I've only had this rig running for two days and already the nice pie chart says i have used 8.75 of the 10gb but lookin at the folders themselves i have only used 5.8gb and I expect it to stay like this as no new software will be going on this disk. I found similar probs in a ancient post but that related to a problem with MSOffice for Macs and I have also looked at the Sys restore but even if this was taking its full quota of 1200Mb it still doesnt account for all the space I'm missing. Does anyone know why there is this discrepencys? I dont want to have to re …

Just installed a 5400 rpm Internal HDD for a failing 4200 rpm. All went well via Norton Ghost 2003. My question is should I search for a new driver for the new HDD as my system is about 3.5 years old or since all is well just leave it be ?

My stepdaughter has a problem on her HP laptop. She thinks she hit a weird key combination that has now done a sort of permanent "caps lock" to ALL her keys, not just the letters. This includes the numbers and symbols, which are all now showing up as opposite of what they normally are (as if she were holding the shift key down all the time). Rebooting doesn't get rid of it. It's happening in all programs, whenever she types. Other symptoms: -- Holding the shift key down doesn't change anything. -- Holding the Caps Lock key down changes the letters to lowercase but doesn't fix the number keys or punctuation keys. I started yesterday to do a clean install and with help from Ken and Gordon obtained detailed instructions of the process. I manage to get into the installation as far as Windows "installing Devices" and it stops at about 65%. I've done this twice and waited an hour although the screen has indicted "Setup will complete in approximantly:33 minutes" and stayed there for some 40 minutes . Am I just being impatient and shoud wait even longer. or should I remove some of the hardware like the graphics card and install it later after the Windows installation is complete? Thanks Iain T
