My USB flash drive is formatted as FAT32. Is it possible to re-format it as NTFS and gain from the increased speed of NTFS over FAT32? Is it possible to install and update Norton Internet Security on a USB flash drive? My objective is to use it to diagnose threats avoiding needing to temporarily transfer a hard disk to my computer. I am primarily concerned here with practicalities. Regards. Bill Ridgeway

I have successfully used Movie Maker for some time. However it refused to let me create a dvd with my latest movie file. I suspect that the reason is that I incoprorated some stills into the movie. These range from 50KB to 1.1MB. IOs there a size limit? Or could pixel size be a problem? If so how do I make the necessary changes. Looked in Picasa and dPhotoshop elements but couldn't find any tools for this. Thanks in advance.

Say I wanted to turn my Windows XP machine into a wireless access point. How would I do that? Would enabling Internet Connection Sharing be sufficient?

Last time I used my laptop it was fine, now I turn it on and it goes the the "Toshiba" Screen...the to the Windows loading screen...and all is normal until I get to the blue "Windows XP Screen". Normally it says "Windows is starting up.." for about a second and then the user password box pops up. Now, on the other hand, "Windows is starting up..." Lasts a long time, I tried to leave it alone to see what would happen (waited about 15 min.) and nothing changed. I turned off my computor manually and I got the same problem. I've tried "Safe Mode" and "Last Config that worked" and I got the same problem, stuck at the "Windows is starting up..." screen. Please try and…

Running WinXP - ProSP2 Is there a way to control/dictate to Windows the order in which to start various auto load programs? In particular, I run both Norton NIS 2007 and SpySweeper - both which automatically start with Windows which I prefer, but I would like to specify that NIS starts first, then SpySweeper. Now it seems either one starts first, but mostly SpySweeper starts first which sometimes interferes with NIS loading. Thanks for any help.

I have approx 50 Win2k AS 2-node File and Print clusters connected to IBM FastT200 Fibre Arrays, configured with a Q: quorum drive, D: data drive and 2 spooler drives for Windows and Unix printing. The D data drives continually get MFT corruption, eventually causing drive failure, however there is no corruption on any other drive. The d: Data drive contains user profiles, homedirs, shareddata and shared folders for application data and DHCP and WINS db's. Although a the majority of I/O is on this drive it is well within the limits of the hardware. After running a chkdsk d: /f on the drive a read only chkdsk shows no corruption. However a day later the…

I purchased a laptop in May pre-installed with Vista Ultimate 64bit and have decided that I'm better off the 32bit version instead. When I contacted the laptop maker I was told that I would have to change the graphcs card in the laptop in order to work with the 32bit version because the graphics in the laptop was specific the the Vista Utimate 64bit OS that was installed. Is there any truth to thier statement? I have never heard of that being the case. Thanks Jeff...

I have an x64 Vista Ultimate installation that is getting this error seemingly at random. Some research has shown this as likely to be a driver problem and Verifier to be the method to check this. Unfortunately, while Verifier does throw a different error, stating that a driver is attempting to corrupt the list, it does not identify the offending driver. Furthermore, I don't seem to be able to find a dump produced anywhere even though the system is set to produce a kernal memory dump as well as a log entry. Is there another method to identify the offending driver that I am overlooking? Does anyone know where the dumps are or why I'm not seeing them? …

I've just re-built my PC with XP SP2 for the third time in a week. Each time after I get up and running I start to install standard programs like Office, Picasa etc and then "setup" of a new App just fails to complete. I can see the setup process in the task manager but it just sits there. So far I have failed on the setup of skype, picasa and printer software. Once a setup has failed then I can install no more software at all - all just get an hourglass for 5-10 seconds and then the cursor goes back to an arrow. The PC is quite usable with all that has been installed prior to the failure. Any ideas? Not sure where to look next. Thanks -- Jonh

Hi, I have a problem with "" '' ~~ and ^^ I can't type one with out the other or without continuing the text. For example I can write with no problem "test but I can't write TEST and then go to the begining of the word and add " without adding two and then erasing the last one. If I just type " nothing will apear untill a new key is pressed (not an arrow key) Anyhow, this is getting annoying and I can't find a solution for it. Any idea on how to disable this feature?

I'm setting up a Terminal Server on a 2003 Server. When I try to 'Activate' Terminal Server Licensing it does nothing. This box will be a member server when delivered, but right now I have it on the bench as a member of a workgroup. It should still activate shouldn't it? I have done this on two other servers a couple of years ago (DC's though) and had no problems. Thanks

You'll have to bear with me....I'm very new to the Windows world. My predecessor built a Windows 2000 server domain (mostly to play with) quite a few years ago and made it a DC. He had one server join the domain just as a member server. I now have the need to get rid of the DC but I still need to keep the member server. To remove the member server is it just as simple as moving it to a Workgroup and rebooting it until we get the other domain up and running? We don't have AD running or anything, any time we log into that server we just log in locally. I just want to be sure the member server will be ok once I remove it from the domain or there are a…

This is strange. I was browsing photos on a historical society website. I decided to save a copy of one. Right-click > Save Image as ... what wound up on my desktop was NOT an image file, but something named getimage.exe. I cannot delete it. A utility I have that finds which processes have open files reported that explorer (i.e., the shell) was the culprit. Twice. I've tried everything I can think of: logging in as Administrator, Safe Mode, etc. but nothing works. Any idea how to get rid of it? Thanks, Jason -- reverse my name in email address
