I have set up a directory structure for a project and set varying permissions for different subfolders. I would like to copy this directory structure for each new project I set up, and to have the permissions remain with the new copy. Simply "copy/paste""dragging and dropping" or ""dragging and dropping" the directory structure doesn't copy the permissions. Is there a way to easily copy these permissions?

Greetings ! I have recently got broadband, and all seems to be working fine at last (though slow!) However, there is juust one niggle, with Outlook Express: When I fetch & send mail at the start of the day, everything works fine, mail is fetched and sent through all the addresses we use. However, if I then write a reply, through one of my old addresses, and try to send it (even an hour later), I am asked for the password for that account, and even when I give it, I am asked again, and again. If I change the "sender" to the Broadband account, it goes off OK. -- Regards Robin

I have about 1,000 fonts installed in my Vista install (I had the same number in XP previously). About 1/3rd are TT, 1/3 OT and 1/3 Adobe Type 1. I have all 1000 fonts installed in my font file. They all show up in Photoshop, Illustrator, Quark and similar programs. But they don't all show up in MS Word. I was using Word XP (2003) and had this problem and then today I upgraded to Word 2007 and the same thing is happening in the newer version. It appears to be the Type 1 fonts that aren't showing up -- but not every Type 1 font is missing. As an example: I have the font Univers installed. It's an Adobe Type 1 font. I've triple checked and know that it …

Something's got wrong by adding a new DHCP reservation: - the reservation is currently not shown - neither the IP address nor the MAC address is shown in view “Active Leases†- when I try to repeat the reservation, I get the error “An error occurred while accessing the DHCP database. Look at the DHCP server event log for more information on this error. - on DHCP server event log is nothing related logged. - the client gets no address by booting or ipconfig /renew. - event log of the client has logged first, that the requested IP address is currently in use by another client (warning). After rebooting a lot of DHCPNACK’s are logged. - I did a backup o…

I am using OE for management of two email accounts. A few days ago one of these accounts 'lost' its ability to display messages in html format. I thought it was something with the server, or with the individual e-mail, but it's my version of outlook express. As I said, this effects only one of the two accounts. I have scanned for virus and other ware problems. The machine appears clean. What should I look for next? Thanks

Hi, here is all the info I think relevant. I'm desperate for a little help. I upgraded from XP Media Center to Vista Home Premium. All up-to-date before install. First thing I did is try and update vista, but the windows update bar just scrolls and scrolls, then gives an error. A new error every time I try. So, I open IE7 to try and find solutions. Any webpage from microsoft won't load, and other pages too. I try Firefox, same problem. I re-install fresh copy of XP with formatted drive, install vista, same problem. I install XP, update everything, install vista, same problem. I remove router, same problem. I try a buddies modem, same problem. I've ins…

I'm hoping this is the right place to ask this. On PC1, I've got a shared folder which contacts installation files for a program. Using a batch file, on PC2, I map to the shared folder on PC1 (which works) and start the install file called setup.exe. I get an error occur then saying "Please go to the control panel to install and configure system components". However, if while still mapped, I browse to the mapped drive and double-click the setup.exe file, it works! Why is this and how to I get it to work automatically through the batch file without erroring?

Hello gang, I know this is not strictly 98-related but I know there are some real brains in here. As some of you may recall, I have a computer which will be 10 years old in September. It works fine. Really. Please don't just tell me to throw it in the trash and get a new one. When it dies for good, I will. At the moment I need nothing more. {I have a 2GHz machine for things requiring more speed than 166MHz offers (which incidentally - IMHO - does not include accessing the internet).} Anyway, the almost-10-yrs-old machine has a PC Chips M572 MB, with 6 RAM slots. 2 are DIMM, 4 are SIMM. It can take a total of 256MB of memory and the manual provides…

I'm wanting to install a new internal HD. I need to enter CMOS/BIOS to check some settings. When I boot, my options screen lasts only 2-3 seconds. I did see that DEL and ALT+F2 are options. Del took me to a dialog to select a boot-up device. Alt=F2 took me to Flash Bios. My motherboard is ASUS P4BGL-VM. I'm running Win XP Home SP2 fully patched. How can I get to BIOS/CMOS? -- Lady Dungeness Crabby, but Great Legs!

I am currently investigating how Effective Permissions calculations work on Windows. I am considering all the server versions of Windows however I restrict my discussion to Windows 2003 Server here as it has a tool to calculate the Effective Permissions. My domain scenario is as follows: Number of domains : 1 running on Win2k SP4 AS I create a new user in the domain say UserX and a new global group say GroupY and make UserX a member of GroupY. To experiment with I first assigned Everyone group full control on a particular directory and Authenticated Users only write control on the directory. Now according to Microsoft Everyone group includes Authentica…

Thank you VERY much to all who replied (quite extensively in some cases) to my post and have helped me solve the problem. WARNING: A long and boring description of what I did follows between the two rows of asterisks. ***** I had no idea whatsoever that DIMMs ran on 3.3 or 5V. I have had the 4 16MB SIMMs since the day I got the computer. Of course, my DIMM does not say which voltage it likes, but I read on one site that it really couldn't damage anything if the voltage was wrong ("couldn't damage" meaning, I suppose, AOT just screwing everything up). So the first thing I checked was the voltage jumpers, and they were set to 3.3V. The 64MB DIMM …

For about 6 weeks I'm having problems with chkdsk not running as scheduled. Using the "system file check" utility I discovered that my autochk.exe file is corrupted and sfc could not repair it. I read the links cited below, but could not locate WAIK, wimfltr.inf, or imagex utility on my OS drive or on the Windows Vista DVD, and Vista has no repair utility like all previous versions have had, so I'm unable to replace my corrupt autochk.exe file from the DVD and I don't have an XP disk. I just got off the phone with Dell Support and after three hours of attempting fixes, they recommended a complete reformatting the hard drive and reinstalling Vista to so…

So I think what caused this to happen is from my regretful attempt to get some of the old Myst games working *Myst masterpiece edition + Riven), and this HAD to install the old version of QT that they used (can't remember version number). Now since then, whenever I go to do anything involving quicktime, it set my Vista theme to Vista Basic and as soon as I close it, it reverts back to the Aero theme. Not sure what to look for...I've uninstalled all versions of Quicktime then reinstalled from the web installer. Maybe I need some sort of registry cleaner but I don't trust many of em. Just need some suggestions...thanks

I often use my widescreen laptop with a projector that demands the screen be set to 4:3 standard format (1024x768, for example). This of course then give me a stretched display on the tablet's widescreen, which makes my writing compressed on the projected image, and hard to draw proper squares or circles. The laptop has ATI Mobility Radeon x600 graphics, running XP Pro Tablet version. Somewhere I came across a machine that when the widescreen display was set to a 4:3 format, it kept the display proportional by centering the display area on the screen, with black bars along each side. Anyone have any ideas how to get this capability? tia, Val
