How do I disable the notice that runs across the screen continuously (above the network section) stating "Finalizing Installation". I started to install something weeks ago (I can't remember what) then decided against it. Now can't get that notice removed. What do I do? -- Christine

Greetings ! Just now and again, if I try to select a file in Windows Explorer by clicking on the filename, ALL the files above that one become highlit as well ! If I then press ENTER, or double click, Explorer then naturally tries to open ALL the highlit files. Re-booting solves the problem - but (a) why does it happen ? and (b) how can I cure it without re-booting ? Regards Robin Clay -- Regards Robin

I have been trying to download a trial version of Adobe Photoshop but whenever I do it I get the following error message:- "Unable to open the setup file. The downloaded files may be corrupted. Please try downloading the Adope Photoshop Elements 5.0 again." The same goes for downloading a trial version of ULEAD Movie Maker. I get this error message:- "The contents of this file cannot be unpacked. The executable you are attempting to run has been corrupted. Please obtain another copy of the file, verify its integrity and try again". Can anyone help me?

I thought the Ultimate package was supposed to be able to handle standard viewing of DVD's or burning a simple MP3 CD-R? So far it wont unless it can piggy back on a 3rd party application that actually can? What is so Ultimate about this?

I have to set the standby timeout value of the system to 10 minutes. To achieve this, I have created a custom power scheme with the required power settings and have set this power scheme as the active one using PowerCfg.exe. Powercfg.exe sets the power scheme for the current user. Please let me know how can I make All Users have the same power scheme. Thanks, Kansana

I rely on being able to go to certain websites to pick up and report my jobs. I do covert evaluations-okay I'm a mystery shopper. There is a large supplier of contract jobs in Canada whose website gives me fits. I can log in and access most of their links and information tools (including some javascript launches). However , when I try to report a job it will not open the app. It indicates its a javascript launch but the screen is blank. They have had system problems but they claim everything is okay now. If its me what can I adjust or change to remedy the problem? I have XP Home SP2 with ie7. Any ideas? Thanks for your time Bill

Howdy, I'm running SBS2003, Service Pack 2 (NOT R2), and I've run into kind of a pesky problem. We recently installed Intel Server Manager 8.30, updated to 8.40, then uninstalled because it wasn't very useful in our environment. Unfortunately, something seems to have stuck around, as I now get a dialog box starting configuration of Intel Server Manager, which then fails about 5 seconds later with a dialog box about being unable to find the InstallHelper.dll. This happens whenever I make changes to the Windows configuration or install software/updates, so it's kind of annoying, as it repeats 10 or 11 times before giving up. In addition, our event log repor…

I am using Windows XPsp2 PCs to access a few windows shares on a Windows 2003SP2 server. Over a 100Mbit or Gigabit connection. (I am transitioning from 100 to 1Gig switches. This problem has stayed constant no matter the speed of the network.) Sometimes when you log in and open Windows Explorer, the share will not appear until after a delay of a few minutes. Sometimes when you open the share from Explorer, there will be a delay (arrow-hourglass and blank right side pane). of usually 10-15 seconds, sometimes as long as 30-45 seconds before the files are displayed. After that, the performance accessing files seems normal. Sometimes however, t…

I bought a computer with the Windows XP Service Pack 2 some time ago. Just recently, I was forced to reformat my hard drive and reboot using my system disks. The system works fine, except for one small glitch: My Automatic update keeps trying to install Security Update KB923789. Every time it tries, however, it fails. I went to the appropriate download site and attempted to re-download and install the update manually, but I got an error message saying that my Flash Player doesn't match the update. I currently have the latest version of Adobe Flashplayer. Help?

Not sure whether this is the right group... Windows Desktop Search returns no results for ( for example) scanpst.exe. The Search Companion returns the location almost instantly. WDS has been installed for some months so indexing shouldn't be a problem. Why doesn't WDS find files? Thanks

When I click control panel it just flashes and outline of the window for a split second then nothing (have the same trouble with My Computer too) . Is there a real fix out for this problem yet? Looked around but was unable to find one, thought some of the wise and powerful folks here might know of one. I made a text document that contains the lines: @net stop "Software Licensing" @net start "Software Licensing" Named it tempfix.bat and keep in on my desktop. Have to click it every time I start my PC in order to see the control panel or My Computer, not a huge hassle but still not something I should need to do just to use a major part of my OS. …
