I got a new PC with preinstalled Vista Ultimate (32-bit). I'm trying to backup my system to a DVD but get various error messages. 1st message ==> "Windows has detected file system corruption on C: You must check the disk for errors before it can be restored." When I try to check the disk, I get another message ==> "Windows can't check the disk while it is in use. Do you want to check for hard disk errors the next time you start your computer?" (BTW: no other program was running unless I had something running in the background that I wasn't aware off) I tried to do that but the next time I restarted the computer, I don't think there was any HD c…

I have had Vista Home Premium not recover from hibernate several times over the last few months. The computer will play 3-4 beeps in succession and then the monitor will never come back up and CPU light stays on. It is like the computer gets stuck in a loop. I reboot the PC and then it shows the "Resuming Windows" screen and then it also gets in a loop again and does not boot. I reboot a 3rd time and then Windows gives me the option of just booting from scratch. I choose to boot from scratch (not using the hibernate) and the computer starts working OK again. Has anyone encountered this? It seems to be pretty random because the computer recovers …

I have 3 computers, all of them with the same problem. I've made a startup ms-dos disk, I inserted the disk and restarted my computer. Whenever I type format c: and press enter I get the following error: bad command or file name Whenever I type cd c: end press enter I get the following error: invalid driver specification Anybody know what could be the problem? I used partition magic to format my hard because i did not have any other options. But the formating takes less then 1 minute. My hard drive has 50GB and I really doubt that it only takes 1 minute to format it. Thanks -- nizan

Hello, I've just installed Xp pro on a PC that ran Home edition. Loaded new motherboard drivers etc but just can't play DVDs. IDE channel is set to DMA. Got a Radeon 7000 graphics card but running ATI's latest driver. Haven't tried the original ones yet! The drives reads data, everything Just NO DVD play back, hangs or crashes the system. I've tried different drives, the original cable is the normal 40 pin type, tried an 80 pin type no luck, baffled. Any help appreciated!

Greetings! My Dell PC came preloaded with Vista Ulitmate. Everything was fine until about a month ago the CD/DVD drive disappeared from "My Computer". Its shows in Device Manager and says it is functioning fine. I did however, delete the drive and reboot so Windows would redetect it. All seems to go as it should but still no CD/DVD drive in "My Computer". After a bit of searching I found an article Advising to delete a few registry keys. I did that also with no effect. Here is the part I find strange: I am able to make a shortcut to my CD/DVD drive and it works fine, iTunes will burn CD's just fine, & I can go to Disk Management and it sees the…

Apologies for this re-post but I didn't get an answer that solved the problem of being asked for a password after my screensaver has kicked in. To recap:- The screensaver i'm using "My Picture Slideshow" doesn't require a password. Screensaver setup "on resume password protect" is not checked. The "Prompt for password when computer resumes fron standby" on the advanced tab of power management is not checked. Despite this I am still being made to enter a password. Any further thoughts? Her's the link to the previous thread. http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/expertzone/newsgroups/reader.mspx?dg=microsoft.public.windowsxp.general&mid=f1a7756a-a30d-40…

OS: Vista 32-bit Home Premium Hey guys. Has anyone noticed that the message under event viewer "The system has resumed from sleep." under Windows Logs / System incorrectly shows the time as GMT instead of GMT-7 for my particular time zone? Of course the date and time are correct under the "Logged:" field. I guess this is a minor Vista bug. Anyone else seeing the same thing? mhajii210

I just bought a new gateway computer. It has vista home premium on it. Vista keeps freezing up for long periods. Is there a way to put XP on a new partition? I tried to remove vista with the XP disk but it won't let me.
