Hello, Due to several "blue screen", I decided to check the memory of my PC ( Mother Board: GIGABYTE GA-K8NXp-SLI with 2 x1Go Corsair XMS Platium series, this configuration has worked fine for more than 1 year). I made test with Windows Memory Diagnostic" (WMD) and MEMTEST86. MEMTEST86 doesn't see any problem; but when I run WMD it hangs after few time during LRAND phase always at the same @: 09D978. To determine the faulty element, a) I swaped the 2 memory sticks and b) made test with only 1 stick installed, c) move the stick on each memory slot. Each time WMD hangs (I need to reboot) at the same address while running LRAND. Questions: 1 - Why do…

Yesterday while listening to music just fine, I got a pop up from Apple saying there is a new version of itunes and asked if I wanted to update. So of course I said yes. Well now ever since the update ALL my audio sounds weird. It sounds like a high pitched robot voice when people talk and all my music sounds sped up. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling and just uninstalling. Any one know what would cause this? I NEED MY MUSIC :-) Thanks E

Hi all, I recently built myself a new PC. I carefully reasearched what kit i was going to buy but when it came to the OS i just assumed 64 bit cpu, get a 64 bit operating system. I guess I was wrong. Apart from not needing a 64 bit OS (no 64 bit apps and only 4GB RAM at the mo) I am having loads of problems, most of which are driver related. I can't get a wireless network to function reliably (about 5% chance it will work!). My scaner has no drivers and i am experiencing other randoms isdsues as well. So due to all this i would like to go from 64 bit to 32 bit. However as i built a new pc i bought an OEM copy of Vista ultimate. Will my 64 bit OEM pr…

Recently I have been getting an error message when running certain programs on Windows XP Home Edition. The error is "Protection Error: 103". When I ran a program this error popped up and closed the program. I thought it was just a problem with the program itself so I left it alone. Then a few weeks later it started popping up in other programs, such as Internet Explorer. And now it will show up while a program is running and not just when I am starting it up. If anyone knows of a solution, please help me out. Thanks, Patrick

Vista Home Premium - Can anyone work out why when i go to control panel and try the windows update, check for updates button - then install updates - my windows modules installer crashes and stops working. First of all how do i identify the program that possibly may be helping crash the modules installer and secondly i heard there is an update to stop this from happening from the vista ms site but i cant download the update anyway as the service host updater is not working when windows modules installer crashes each time. It wont allow me to update the computer and i need my important vista updates. Sometimes i can download a fe…

This particular PC XP SP2 has been giving me all kinds of issues. I can not even get into Windows Explorer. I get a Data Execution Prevention message. This also means Control Panel and quite a few other things don't work. Windows Explorer does however work in Safe Mode. Any ideas on how to correct the problem?

Vista Advisor shows no issues, Vista upgrade shows Nvida card will need a driver after installation. Upgrade says installation should not be a problem. WHY OH WHY OH WHY does the installation finish after 3 Hours showing the "Upgrade was not succesfull" and revert back to the previous version. Is there no way of finding out what the issue is? Is there not an upgrade log created? Running Windows Media centre upgrading to Vista Home Premium. Should I be waiting for MS to sort there bug riddled software out and buy the 2007 Windows version after 3 -4 years.

I have uninstalled a software on my office computer last week and since then it is impossible to install any MSI package. As soon as I click the icon I get the message: “This installation package could not be opened. Verify that the package …â€. Uninstalling software does the same thing. I searched on internet. In 99% of the cases, this message appeared at the installation of specific packages and there was a workaround to solve the problem or the package had been corrupted during download or something like that. But cases like mine were rare and the few forums where the subject was discussed ended with no conclusion. As suggested I reinstalled Windows…

I am having trouble opening Word 2002 files, either in a folder or on the desktop. In the past, all I had to do was double-click on a specific file's icon and the file opened. Now Word loads, but it doesn't open. The window stays gray, and the document doesn't open. This is driving me batty. The only solution I've found is to load Word first -- blank document -- minimize it, then go back and double-click the document I want. Is there any way to open a file without having to go through all this rigamarole? I've tried everything I can think of. -- Virus scan, spam scan, getting rid of software I don't need, cleaning the registry. I even re-registered Word. Noth…

I am tryng to install xp. My hard drive has been formatted NTFS. After the installation is mostly complete, i get the following error message: Sub-component Distributed Transaction Coordinator caused an exception while processing the OC_COMPLETE_INSTALLATION It says "the DTC service could not be installed." After clicking ok, the computer restarts and appears to begin installing again, then it will restart and give an error that winows can't start because config.sys is missing. The original problem with this computer was that it just **** off and began restarting on its own before finishing loading windows. I tried to format and reinstall, and here I …

I am trying to fix a corrupted file or directory because I think that's the reason why I'm not able to burn a recovery DVD. The file I am having problems with is: c:\Program Files\Common Files\InstallShield\Driver\1150\Intel32 When I tried opening this folder, I am getting a message that it "is not accesible. The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable." I tried running a disk check but it won't run. Any suggestions? Thanks

This may be a lame question, but is safe to continue working with applications while doing a complete system backup? When I make a backup, I walk away from computer and let it do its' thing. I feel this is best way. Perhaps I answered my own question?

My DVD RW drive loads by default as E:, the lowest available letter. I want to use E: for something else, so I assigned it the letter Z: using Administrative Tools. But on reboot it reverts to E:. A virtual drive created by the InstantWrite software has the same problem, i.e. I cannot permanently reassign the drive letter, but another DVD drive which was earlier assigned to Y: is still Y:. I can successfully reassign the drive letters of the various hard disk partitions. They do not revert on reboot. I have just reinstalled my whole system. I had the problem before reinstallation, but as far as I can recall it was not there at first in the new installati…
