Hi, I hope some one can help me get my husband's computer running or he's going to drive me nuts on the holiday. Xp pro w/service pack 2. Windows One Care, no third party AV or firewall. Automatic updates are on. He shut it off about 10 pm last night, turns on about 7pm today Windows hangs just after the boot screen (default). He's not into tweaking and installed Encyclopedia Britannica a few days ago. Windows one care did some updates yesterday about 2pm. I got it to boot to safe mode a few times, here's what I'm getting from the event monitor: Event Type: Error Event Source: Service Control Manager Event Category: None Event ID: 7001 Date: 7/3/2007 Ti…

Vista is the biggest peace of crap I've ever seen for burning data into a CD. Does anyone know where I can get a program for burning CD and DVD's on the Vista OS? Nero 6 don't work on Vista and Nero 7 they want about $80 for.

HAs anyone figured out why the heck uninstalling a program takes forever and CPU utilization goes through the roof???? WinXP was lightspeed ahead of how Vista goes about it. To uninstall a simple progrm took me over a half an hour of waiting "while Windows prepares to uninstall", or "windows configuring to uninstall xxxxxxxx".

I read a post about a person having a similar problem and the fix was taking ownership of the file. in my case its different though. After upgrading i was denied access to my videos, my music, and my pictures files saying that i do not have permision to access these files. when i look to see about the ownership i found that i was already the owner of the file but that vista had added the user "everyone" and had its permissions set to deny access to read and view the file. after many failed atempts to change this i have come the question of wether or not i have to restore my computer to xp and copy the files and then put them back on vista or if there is a …

I have a weird situation. I have an application filemaker pro wich I have programmed to sent an email. In this case outlook creates a new email and emailadress, subject and bodytext are filled from my other application, I think it would work the same way if I for example create an email in VB net to be sent through outlook. However, what happens is that on some machines the email that is sent includes a header in the bodytext and also includes som asci codes, see example below and on some machines it doesn't. In my case: on win2000 outlook, outlook express both work fine. XP outlook express works fine, XP outlook on some machines it includes the header and on some machine…

I am trying to use the backup utility that shipped with Windows XP-64 Professional. Windows on this Dell 470 64 bit computer is up to date, service pack 2. When I try to run a normal backup, I get the following fail message: Volume shadow copy creation: Attempt 1. Timeout before function completed While searching through the internet, I read that 32-bit backup programs running under a 64-bit operating system will not work. Is this true of the backup utility shipped with my OEM version of Windows? I was using a 32 bit Windows XP until the hard drive for that system failed. I installed a new (second) drive and decided to install Vista 64 …

My Music folder was lost (hard drive crash). I had moved it off the C: drive to an other internal hard drive (320GB) for my 18,000 songs. I tried to create it in default My Documents folder which is ok but Windows doesn't recognize it. I tried the Start - Properties - Start Menu - Customize - Advanced - My Music - Display as a link but it still doesn't show in the start menu and, more importantly, iTunes can't find it either. I tried TweakUI but that doesn't list MY Music as one of the SPECIAL FOLDERS that I can change the location to. I have updated the registry but when I restart the computer my registry is reset to not finding the My Music folder. Is there …

I'm getting no USB icons in the systray when I plug something in. Everything works OK, but then I have no way of stopping the item before I unplug. So I just go ahead and unplug it. I get a little "pop" noise, but no error messages.

Hello all, We currently have WSUS 2.0 and are getting ready to go up to 3.0. One key feature we need is the ability to install updates on servers (sever 2003 mostly) without administrator intervention. Now, I totally understand why you can do this from the automatic updates client on XP and NOT on servers (as it currently stands).... because you would not want servers re-booting unexpectedly to install updates. Indeed we have many clustered servers and complicated heirarchial boot-order specific server startup and shutdown situations that would curl your hair. But, those are the exceptions, we have many servers where it would be fine on a schedule.…

Windows 2003 x64 sp1 Without rebooting, how can I tell how many procs my box has? Task manager shows 4, system info shows 4, and I "think" I have 2 dual-core procs. I need to know for sure, without bouncing the box. I also want to make sure that 1 dual-core hyperthreaded proc doesn't show up as 4 procs. Thanks, Andre

I always manually update my computer and do not wish to automatically update it. How can I turn this off and go back to what I was doing before I had to update my installer??

Anyone know what the heck these two programs are doing? They are automatically running in Task Scheduler, and are listed under "Customer Experience Improvement Program" in Scheduler. I disabled them of course.
