I am setting up my friend's brand new out of the box Dell computer .. comes with Vista. I go through the steps required to set up internet connection, making sure spelling of username and password is correct and case sensitive. Friend wants MSN as ISP. When I try to get connection, keep getting Error Code 691. I can't get past it...and have called MSN techies at least 10 times, and they say everything is correct and I should be connected. Yeah right. (I am glad I have XP on my own computer). Can anyone help me get past this 691 Error code to get connected to the internet? -- AnnieLou

I have just had new computer with vista about 2 weeks and think I made a mistake. I am set up as administrator which I guess is right. However, you get all those pop up questions every time you want to do something so just found out about creating a standard user profile to use for everyday use. Here goes the question. Is there any way to transfer all my programs that I have already set up under administrator and transfer to my standard user profile or do I have to set up each program from scratch, like the win mail and all my other programs please say that isn't so. Will wait to hear. Thanks in advance for any and all help. -- Jackie Lamorie …

When I download a program from the internet it says it will go to the Temporary Folder. I reach this folder by going to C drive\Program Files\Temporary Folder. This folder never contains the program. I do a search and it does not uncover the program. I can not find this program. Any thoughts, other than I'm crazy? James

Any idea is appreciated: WAX Dell Lap Top. Is there any reason that the desktop display does not fill up the entire screen at a 1024X768 resolution or any other resolution after the computer boots up? The display is perfect for a second or 2 and then it reduces and the left and right portion of the screen is black for about an inch. If I go to Control Panel/Display/Settings should the 2 boxes be checked? i.e.. "use this device as the primary monitor and Extend my windows desktop onto this monitor"?

Help! Trying to load files for work, and the disc will not load. Works fine on every other computer in the office, but not my Vista Home Premium. I did install Office 2003 so I could open the file, but it comes up as a "read only", and denies me when I uncheck the box for "read only". I need to be able to save and e-mail these spread sheets. How can I do this? -- Thanks.

Hope someone out there can help - I recently bought a Gateway laptop with Vista Home Premium pre-loaded but I found out it's not compatible with the Raymarine chartplotter software I need to run on it (which was the whole purpose of buying the laptop!). The Raymarine tech support site acknoweldges this and recommends a dual boot with XP with which it is compatible. My question is do I have to buy the XP software even though I have paid for Vista and what's the best way to install a dual boot system? I only intend to ever run two programs - the chartplotter software and an internet browser. Many tx for any help and advice. DMac

(I apologize my English, I'm italian) I've a laptop HP zd8000, with W-Vista Premium, and it worked very well, till I installed a new antivirus. I removed Avast Edition Home and I installed Norman Virus Control. Now, when I try to restart Vista, it doesn't work: if I click on "restart" button (Riavvia sistema) it normally shuts down, but doesn't restart (it seems freezed on black window). Then I shut off with on/off switch (on computer), I wait for a while (3 or 4 minutes), then I switch on the pc and it starts (and it goes normally). Can you help me? -- Thank You. Friendly, Volosauro

It has now become observable/obvious that the half dozen or so lockups requiring a hard reboot that have occured on this OEM Vista Business machine in two weeks have something in common ... a Help screen was up and running. A Dell laptop, with a Dell component to Help so it could very well be that is the problem, but I thought I would also ask here if any one has mentioned this as a known issue? (although in none of the cases was it a "Dell" related issue, but general Vista Help issues), Thanks in advance ... -- http://www.e-woodshop.net Last update: 6/1/07 KarlC@ (the obvious)

I upgraded my Windows XP with Vista Home Basic. Now my computer is running slow and crashing. I called my internet provider to find out why its running slow and crashing and he told me to remove Vista. I than called several other internet providers and they told me the same thing. However when I talked to Comcast they told me that Vista would run OK using them as my provider. Does anyone know if this is true? Should I switch to Comcast? Currently I am using SBC DSL.

Hi All, When I offer RA I receive an error message on the 1st attempt. When I send the offer again, it works just fine. The event logs show two RA sessions being started, no errors though. Any ideas on why this is happening? I've heard this can be caused by resolution or volume license. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, dww8450
