I have the following partitions on my drive: 1.) 137 GB NTFS (Windows Vista) 2.) 4 GB (Unallocated) 3.) 6 GB NTFS (Windows Server 2008 Beta) The Management Console will allow me to extend the first partition into the unallocated space, but it will not allow me to do the same with the third partition. Any ideas? Thanks!

I had to quickly power down without going thru the normal shutdown process, and since then, I get this error everytime my computer reboots and while it is loading the profile/logging on. I can't tell that anything is not functioning, nor do I understand exactly what is supposedly not working. My hot keys seem to work...at least what I think of as "hot keys", such as if I press the "fn" key, and then also press the "down key", it adjusts my sound. Are these the "hot keys" this error is referring to, or are other "hot keys" being affected that I am unaware of. I'd either like to fix the error so I stop getting the notice everytime I log on, or make the er…

Hi, In the good old days of XP I used to use the program that came with my HP all in one to scan my documents (HP Photo Director) I would open the program from my desktop shortcut and use it to scan directly into a folder in 'My Pictures' When I open 'My Pictures' I get a view of all the folders without them already being opened. Now that I have Vista I am having a few problems. First, HP Photo Director will open and scan the image but I then get an error telling me that the image couldn't be written to C/image001.tiff. How can I change it to scan as a JPG as default and can I change to default folder? Can I also view 'My pictures' as in XP, where they…

I'm running vista business 64 and about two or three times a week certain programs (listed below) just won't open. Usually after a restart they will work fine. It is a clean install-- the only program that I have installed is adobe reader. I have all the latest windows updates as of 7/07/07, and indexing, UAC, and defender are disabled. I Did a virus scan with defender and it found nothing. Problem Reports and Solutions is empty. I looked in event viewer and didn't notice anything unusual when this occurs. Any help would be appreciated. programs that don't run: control panel- its window flashes for a split second then closes. all bundled games with the …

I save copies of monthly bills I receive online and don't want ot retype the entire file name each time I save, so on trying to save a pdf, for example, I click on an existing file name (e.g. company_20070111to20070210.pdf) then in the file name field on the "Save As ..." dialog box. That changes the file name to be saved from the cryptic web server generated name to the name of the existing file I chose. After doing that I then edit the name in the file name field and change it, for example, to company_20070311to20070410.pdf then I click the button to save. Vista alerts me that the file already exists, even though a file with the new name does not exi…

http://www.dslreports.com/shownews/Kaspersky-AV-Breaking-CHKDSK-85517 For several weeks, users in our security forum have been discussing a problem with Kaspersky Anti-Virus they say the company refuses to properly address. At fault is the company's iSwift technology, which speeds up virus scans by tagging (NTFS-identifiers) certain files and tracking whether they've been changed (and thus need to be rescanned). According to forum users, the technology all but breaks CHKDSK functionality, and the changes are permanent even if you uninstall the software. Kaspersky blames Microsoft for the problem, but our forum regulars insist the problem is Kaspersky's. http…

I have a line interactive ups that I would like to setup to shut down XP nicely if there's a power failure. The UPS service is running, the com port is connected to the UPS, and in control panel/power options/UPS/configure/critical alarm I have set the option to shut down on critical alarm, 5 minutes left on battery. I think this is correct but if I simulate a failure by pulling the UPS power cord to the wall the machine simply cuts out when battery is drained. Am I missing something?

Guys - I need some help on this one... I just purchased a new custom-built gaming rig that was shipped with Vista. After experiencing all the headaches and non-working apps, I decided to wipe Vista and install XP. To do it properly I had to eradicate all traces of Vista using Killdisk. I installed XP SR2 and all drivers on the virgin system, however it will not boot without my XP System disk in the dvd drive. If I attempt to boot without the disk, it initiates the bios screen which is followed an all black screen with a single flashing cursor... and sits there until I reboot with the CD in. With the CD in, it asks to boot from cd, which I do not and then…

Leaving my Windows HP home ed PC overnight , and it does not start up at all. It hangs at the point I would be expecting the splash screen to appear, with a blank black screen , and no sign of hard drive activity- the fan stays at full speed so there may be some processor activity. Press the 'off' button, and it goes to 'off' as expected after 4 or 5 seconds. Now press the off-on a second time and it burst into life offering the 'safe mode' options. Chose Safe mode and its starts and suns normally. From Safe Mode, select shut down, restart and it starts and then behaves perfectly. I have checked the device manager looking for errors and there are none, I have ru…

I have an HP Pavillion running Windows XP Home with SP2 and use the Office 2003 suite. The processor is an AMD Anthlon XP3100 2,20GHX with 512MB of RAM. The machine hangs or completely freezes very freuqently and is getting nearly impossible to use. I just had an IT guy in who checked all connections fan, heat sink etc and he could find nothing. I ran the PC Doctor and all componenets, memory, etc checked out OK. The hangupos occur during bootup sometimes, other times they occur after the machine and programs have been running. -- Fred1097

I was given a computer and it has XP Pro on it. The problem is that when I downloaded the validation tool it stated that the product key wasn't valid. I trust the person who gave it to me but I don't want the hassle. I restored my pc to an earlier point to remove the validation tool. My question is that I have my XP Home Edition w/ SP2 upgrade and I was wondering if I could just do a new install over the XP Pro? I know my product key is good my only worry is will it work. Anyone know if this is possible please let me know. Thanks

Current setup: Domain X that serves the main office for our small company. Domain Y which is a client's server we are setting up for them. While the client's server is at our site, we would like to allow them to remote into it, and use liscences from the liscencing server we have in domain X. Both servers are 2003. I would be ok setting up a trust between the domains only if I could lock them down. Looking for Suggestions :)
