I scheduled ntbackup to backup data to a Mapped Network Drive Z. But if I'm logged out the drive is disconnected so the update fails because the drive can not be located. Any solution? Bisirat Amanuel

I have purchased, installed and registered Microsoft Office PROFESSIONAL 2007, that cost me $$$. It works well. My new Dell Latitude D620 comes equipped with a NVIDIA Quadro NVS 110M When I plug it it works fine but when I try to work on my battery power then the screens dims and is difficult to look at. So I went to the NVIDIA control panel help and found that the backlight is dimmed by Smartdimmer and it tells me what I need to do. I am replacing a dead internal hard drive in my Emachines model #5010 computer. The only thing I know about the drive I have now is that its a IDE 200 gig. Can I just pick up any internal drive I see in the store? Also I have an Xp instalation disc that came with the computer. It says Emachines on the disc. Is this all I need to re-install the Operating System on the New drive? Any tips are appreciated.

Hi, I did a repair installation of XP Pro SP2 and now I obviously need to get all the updates again. Problem is I need to update to Installer 3.1 and Genuine Advantage Validation tool but these both give error 0x80246008 when I try to update to them. I'm using XP Pro backup utility to run scheduled backups of selected files across a network to an external hard drive. I checked to make sure all the folders/files were checked to backup. I did a test restore to a temp folder to see if the backup worked. The folders were there, but no files whatsoever, anywhere, local files nor remote files. I've checked all the settings I can find but can't see where anything is set up wrong. Does anyone have any suggestions. Thanks in advance for your help.

They reinstalled Windows XP using their own disc and registered to: is now User where before it was registered to me ie. Sally Jo. All programs work except a database I use which is locked, I think because the computor does not recognize User as having authorization to access the data base. Is there a way I can restore the original Registered to or a way I can open my data base? -- Chym

Strange I install xp into c partition (which been deleted before the installation. After installation when I boot up, it shows dual boot and also in the boot.ini. I also reformat the D partition after installation of xp. In the C partition, there is only 1 windows folder WINDOW Although I can set the time to 5 sec instead of 30 sec in the boot.ini, but I preferit does not show any " presence" of 2nd xp. Is there anything wrong with the mobo/bios?

I'm trying to install a new Western Digital 160 gig hard drive. The old harddrive is SAMSUNG SV1533D. It was originally part of a dual-boot ocnfiguration. Then the other disk crashed, and the computer refused to boot from the Samsung. I took the computer to a shop. They recovered my data, removed the bad HD, and they said "the Samsung can be the master." Did they change the jumper settings on the Samsung? I don't know. This was 6 months ago and I'm sure the tech doesn't remember. My installation guide says to set the new HD jumpers to be the Primary controller / Slave Drive. I did this.
