It's always exciting when a build of a pre-release version of Windows leaks out of Redmond. And so it is with Windows 10 build 9888, a post-Windows Technical Preview build of Microsoft's next desktop OS. Cautiously installing it in a virtual machine—yeah, I'm still a bit burned by build 9879—what I see, unfortunately, is not a heck of a lot of difference. This is no Consumer Preview build. Given that lowering of expectations, what is new? First of all, the version number is indeed 10, as previously reported. In the final Windows Technical Preview build, 9879, this version number is reported as 6.4, which is consistent with all Windows versions dating back to Wind…

I have a Dell All-in-One 2030 with Windows 8.1 and lately I have been finding the bootup taking longer and longer with occasional freezes and began to think I have a hard drive problem. The unit has a 1Tb Seagate 7200 RPM hard drive which I replaced with a 240 gb Ssd drive only the drive only shows about 120 Gb. I have looked in Disk Management and Easeus Partition Manager and I cannot see any unallocated space. The drive is setup as a GPT drive and this one has me really puzzled. The speed is absolutely awesome but where did my 100 gb go? Anyone with any ideas?

As stated in another thread this client is one I have had many infection issues with and her husband is a heavy duty gamer with a hot Amd 8 core pc that it shares a network with so I decided this would be a good test for my new Emsisoft relationship. Installed on the Dell Inspiron 2020 I was a little concerned with the length of time to update the new install because while on Comcast everything is quick, I have still many Verizon Dsl clients with very slow service and this software updates fully after install. A call to my contact provided me with a better site to download the install from. A site that has the updates included as Emsisoft.com seems it does not do. I…

One of the most intriguing features in Windows 10 is its complex, deeply detailed, surprisingly bland suggestions app. Found a bug? Want something added? You can let Microsoft known from with Windows itself. Users have filled the company’s ears with literally hundreds of wants, but a few stand out from the crowd. Here’s what the people clamor for. A better animation after clicking on the Start menu The return of the Start menu has been a mixed blessing. It’s back (hooray!) which means accessing file and folders, along with desktop search, is easy for desktop users once again. But the early version rolled out in Windows 10 Preview is downright ugly and partially redu…

Well I should have my head examined, I had settled in with Ssd drives in both pcs I use the most and everything was running well. I am not quite sure where I read this but I think it was on the LinkedIn business owners forum about a marvelous tweak for Ssd drives called "tweak ssd". The hype about what it does really sounded good too. After a week or so I started getting freezes on most browsers and the unit with Windows 7 was taking forever to boot up. Then even normal open windows such as Control Panel began to freeze. I ran checkdisk and it made no difference. I removed some things from startup to no avail. Needless to say I looked to restore the most recent Macriu…

..which probably isn't explaining what I want! The situation is this: I have a domain blahblahblah.com and the domains A-records point that and also www.blahblahblah.com to my site, so users can browse using either. However, what I want is that no matter which they use IIS will always return the page www.blahblahblah.com (and all pages on the site, of course.) Hope that's a bit clearer! thanks... PS - of course, if IIS can be so configured it's likely that the same can be done via web.config ..... somehow!

Hey Cindy, you around :) [or anyone else], I can't find the correct wireless drive for this windows 7 64-bit machine on dell's site here: http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/19/product-support/product/inspiron-one-2320/drivers I searched the net, came across this thread: http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/network-internet-wireless/f/3324/t/19587503 which suggested to download a driver and gave the link but that driver is not working so in that thread it was suggested to download it direct from the main site here: https://www.atheros.cz/atheros-wireless-drivers.html but I am having trouble figuring out exactly which driver on that page, help p…

Wish you could extract all of icons stored on your computer? Have you ever wondered where all those icons you see are actually located? Finding high quality icons on your computer is difficult and mostly because applications store their icons directly in the EXE (executable) file itself, which indirectly hides those icons from you. In this article, I’ll mention a couple of tools you can use to extract icons from the applications already installed on your computer. You can use these programs to save the icon files as images or as ICO files of different sizes. IconsExtract IconsExtract is a freeware application that you can use to automatically find icons that are …

Just built a new rig and all works excellent but for one issue. I am on cable and all the other computers download speed is around 113MB/S however this new rig the download speed was 42MB/S and with all the tweaks I can think of all I can get is 63 MB/S now. I have swapped ports on the router, bought the best Ethernet cable, set to full Duplex etc. All my other computers are AMD. This one is a Z97 extreme 4 Mobo with an Intel Core i7 4790 @ 3.60GHz Haswell 22nm Technology My question would a seperate Network card help? Last Intel processor I will buy. Thanks for any input.

It’s a war out there in the world of retail, and having the lowest prices around is a weapon every brick-and-mortar store has been trying to keep in its arsenal. Not so easy when online retailers like Amazon are constantly lowering prices. All that might change for Walmart, as store managers have been told it’s time to officially start price-matching Amazon and others. We’ve known for a few weeks now that Walmart was considering allowing stores to match lower prices found online for customers who walk into the 5,000 or so locations in the country, and today the company’s head of U.S. business says that idea has been given the go ahead. According to a brief report fr…
