  1. Internet Explorer, Microsoft’s ubiquitous but infamous web browser, may be on its way out. According to a recent report, Microsoft may be preparing to say goodbye to Internet Explorer as part of its Windows 10 push, building a new browser that could compete with Chrome and Firefox. Such a development would not only see Microsoft building a lightweight alternative to Internet Explorer, but enable it to start over without the years of negative perceptions that the company’s traditional browser has as its legacy. ZDNet’s Mary Jo Foley reports that while there’s been word for some time now that Microsoft would make some big changes to Internet Explorer when it rolled o…

  4. Reports have been flowing in on Twitter today that Xbox Live and PlayStation Network — the online services connecting Microsoft's and Sony's game consoles — are experiencing outages. Occasional downtime is par for the course for both, but Christmas Day is a particularly bad time, just as hundreds of thousands of PlayStation 4s and Xbox Ones are unwrapped and set up. I am really getting annoyed that on most sites they load OK but the Tab hourglass often never stops spinning. I look down and the site is loading all the crap imagineable like Google analytics, connecting to facebook and the list goes on and on.This site is no exception. Loads quite fast though. Funny thing with IE 11 the hourglass stops in seconds. Work that one out. I need Firefox because I have 10 pages of Speed Dial links.:( I prefer IE to FF anyday.

  7. Started by Rich-M,

Every so often I stop and think what things are like for the less fortunate and I was setting up a new client pc for a very unfortunate client's brother at his home when he asked me if I could update his old Windows XP Desktop for his sister. I have done some work for her before and she is in her mid fifties with about every conceivable medical issue. Wheel chair bound with Aids and all kinds of spine and back maladies she has a great spirit and I have always done what I can for her for very little money and even nothing at times so I was open to trying to get either her Vista Dell laptop or Dell Optiplex GX620 updated to at least Windows Vista. She has about every known …

  10. Following a major software glitch that allowed consumers to purchase hundreds of items on the Amazon UK marketplace for mere pennies, it appears that some retailers are trying to recoup their lost income from customers, even going as far as to threaten debt collection if purchasers don’t pay full price. Bitter Wallet reports that one third-party seller sent a message to customers early this week asking them to pay the difference between the bargain price and the regular retail cost of products purchased during the glitch. A reader says they received an email from the store that claims Amazon urged retailers affected by the pricing fiasco to contact customers for ful…

  11. Hp Compaq dx2000 MT business desktop, came with XP Pro, owner wants to run Vista, looking online I am seeing windows7 drivers for this unit here on HP's site: http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/swd/public/readIndex?sp4ts.oid=401821&swLangOid=8&swEnvOid=4051 I know normally you can use vista drivers to load win7 but this is the opposite, would this work problem free please?

  12. By Tommy Gimler Dec 16, 2014 This might be one of the funniest yet saddest things we have ever seen. According to Gawker, 30,000 people actually sent Cards Against Humanity six dollars for a box of "literal feces, from an actual bull" when they pulled their super popular card game from their webstore to protest Black Friday. In fact, so many people took them up on their "Bullshit" offer, that the company sold every box in just one hour. But if any of them were holding out hope that the box contained something other than poop, here's a video that will crush their souls. The website advised people who purchased the box to use its contents to "fertilize your g…

  13. Successor to the antiquated BIOS, the Unified Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI) adds powerful security tools to post-XP systems. Ironically, UEFI can also block important repair, recovery, and backup tools that boot from DVDs, CDs, or USB drives. Windows 8′s tight integration with a PC’s UEFI can be especially problematic when you need to run bootable rescue media. This article will show how to fully master the UEFI boot system on Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8 systems. At the end, you’ll have the benefits of UEFI security but also know how to bypass its drawbacks. The many strengths — and weaknesses — of UEFI From the start, all PCs have contained low-lev…

  15. If you're brave or foolish enough to still be using the latest build of the Windows Technical Preview, you won't be surprised to hear that Microsoft plans yet another update fix, this one aimed at fixing a security problem. But there's also a twist: If you try to install this fix with Office 2013 installed, the install will fail. So you'll need to uninstall Office, install the fix, and then reinstall Office. Honestly, given what we've been going through with build 9879, this is a minor inconvenience. And Microsoft's Gabe Aul, who has become the congenial face of the Windows Technical Preview, recommends that everyone testing the build should install this fix. "It's a c…

If you cannot make money selling this one, there is something wrong with you. $149.99 with free freight + add Windows, Ram and a hard drive and an easy $500 retail gets you $200 + whatever you can get moving their files, and the components are decent! http://3btech.net/babocospinpe2.html

  19. Started by allheart55 Cindy E,

This one has me stumped. I cloned a faulty laptop hard drive (successfully) using the already installed Acronis program. When finished cloning, I replaced the hard drive with the newly imaged one. I then installed a new Eset Nod 32 as well as fifty some Windows updates. I opened Acronis to make a backup and it said my free trial had expired. (It's important to note that this was never a trial version of Acronis) I enter the key, it accepts it and becomes the full version. However, on every reboot it reverts back to a trial version. I finally uninstall Acronis and reinstall it only to have the exact same thing occur on boot. Has anyone else experienced this proble…

Talk about not having any Christmas spirit.... Last night while at Shop-Rite, someone keyed my husbands Chevy Tahoe, front, back and along both sides. He just got back from seeing Allstate's insurance adjustor. $4,038. worth of damage. Bah, Humbug! :real_anger:WTH is wrong with people? I don't get it!

  21. Microsoft's Windows 10 is still in testing, but hardware makers can't wait for the day the OS replaces the controversial Windows 8. Millions of PCs are aging, and those who have resisted Windows 8 will likely upgrade to computers with Windows 10. The initial reception to a test version of Windows 10 has been positive, as it resolves many usability issues affecting Windows 8. There are about 600 million PCs that are four years or older, and those systems are ripe for upgrades, said Renee James, president at Intel, at the Credit Suisse Technology Conference on Tuesday. 23. This week, Microsoft COO Kevin Turner provided a more detailed view of the schedule for Windows 10, reiterating that the firm planned to ship the final version of the OS sometime in late 2015. But Mr. Turner also provided a bit more information about interim milestones for Windows 10. Unfortunately, much of this contradicted the previously understood schedule. As you may recall, Microsoft revealed Windows 10 at a short press conference in San Francisco on September 30 and released the first pre-release milestone, the Windows Technical Preview, on October 1. During the Q&A after the announcement, Terry Myerson said that Microsoft would ship a consumer-oriented miles…
