Anyone here using a Samsung SSD like the 850 Pro? If so reply here because I am noticing some questionable activity when using the Samsung Magician RAPID mode. I am beginning to wonder if this RAPID mode is beneficial at all. Anyway if you have one let's talk.

Microsoft has something new for us today: Windows 10, the next major release of its desktop operating system. It gets a public unveiling in Seattle this morning. Window 10 should be a welcome development to those of you who regard Windows 8 it as the worst version of Windows ever made. There are certainly a lot of you. But what if Windows 8 does not actually represent the worst of Microsoft’s desktop operating systems? If you’re sufficiently cranky, you can make a case for any consumer version of Windows over the last 20 years being the worst ever. And we are. So we did. Here’s the logic: Windows 3.1: Crashed if you looked at it sideways. Remained incapable t…

Microsoft's Windows 10 event is just getting started, and it sounds like the company is eager to make it as easy and cheap as possible for those running older versions of Windows to upgrade. Terry Myerson just announced on stage that, for the first year after Windows 10 launches, any device running Windows 7, Windows 8.1, or Windows Phone 8.1 will be able to upgrade to the latest version of MIcrosoft's OS — for free. How exactly this program will work isn't clear just yet — it'll certainly be subject to some hardware requirements, particularly for older machines running Windows 7. But a simplified upgrade path will likely do a lot to help Windows 10 adoption — rather …

You may have protected your personal data with strong passwords, but when hackers seize control of other computers, the resulting "botnets" can cause plenty of collateral damage. The depressing part is that one of the biggest holes is the easiest to fix: terrible passwords. SplashData has just released its annual list of the worst ones (gleaned from hacked file dumps), and things haven't changed much over last year. The most common stolen password is still "123456," which edged out perennial groaner "password." Other top picks in the an alphanumeric hall of shame are "12345678," "qwerty," "monkey" and new this year, "batman." According to security expert Mark Burne…

If you believe in hell, then you probably look at it as a place of eternal suffering and despair. It's a place where everything you fear and dread comes to life. No one knows if it's real or what happens there, but if it is, here's a list of things that probably happen while you're there. 1. Every online search you've ever done was logged by Satan and is read aloud to your parents and grandparents. 2. You're in a room full of adorable puppies, but your hands are made of chocolate so if you try and pet them, they'll die. 3. You're trying to get away from a tidal wave of flames, but every highway is one narrow lane with 600 cyclists in front of you and they refuse …

#1 Can you see it? If you thought the world's biggest crab was the person ahead of you at Starbucks, it looks like they might have some competition. This "Crabzilla" was "spotted" on Google Maps, and doesn't seem real due to its size. Still, the creature supposedly lurking by the mouth of Kent Harbour in the U.K. is something you'll want to take a look at. This thing isn't just big; it would dwarf an entire pier. Even the thickest pair of water shoes won't protect you from this thing's pinch. Take a look at the pictures below and decide for yourself. #2 How about now? Did you see it? Yeah, it's pretty hard to miss. The largest species of crab (known to…

Okay android gurus, being a new user to the Android community I have a question. I have an Android tablet that has been rooted. I have not installed any mods or backup solutions such as clockwork mod. My question is how essential is a Nandroid backup? Or is the system partition safe? I don't play with ROMs or load questionable apps.

Should I stay or should I go now ..... if I go there will be trouble! ... That's a song by the Clash if I remember right. Meaning should I stay the status quo with my current Intel rig? Or should I slide back into the AMD side of things? So I have all the parts I need for an all-AMD system build sitting here. I remember when I ran an all AMD exclusive system for some reason even though the comparable Intel systems were supposedly faster... I enjoyed the AMD system immensely. Something about using a processor that is not uber mainstream and is mainly adopted by gamers made me feel good. I also felt better about AMD GPU's because they seem to provide better value for the mo…

Microsoft has criticized Google for deliberately publishing details of a vulnerability in Windows 8.1 two days before a fix was due to be released. Google published details of the bug as part of its Project Zero initiative, which it claims gives companies enough advanced warning — 90 days exactly — to fix vulnerabilities before they go live. Microsoft, however, says it told Google that it was planning to introduce a fix using its "well known and coordinated Patch Tuesday" update, and that the search giant's behavior endangers customers. "Although following through keeps to Google’s announced timeline for disclosure, the decision feels less like principles and more l…

Windows 7 will reach the midpoint of its support lifetime this week when it shifts from what Microsoft calls "mainstream" to "extended" support. The world's most popular personal computer operating system exits mainstream support on Tuesday, Jan. 13. After that, although Microsoft will continue to issue security updates to all users for another five years, it will not add new features to Windows 7, and any non-security fixes -- such as reliability and stability updates -- will be issued only to organizations that have signed support contracts. Next week thus marks the halfway point of Windows 7's decade-long support stretch, which ends Jan. 14, 2020. Windows 7 wi…

Microsoft has posted a new Phone Insider app to the Windows Phone Store, the latest sign yet that the Windows Technical Preview will soon be expanded beyond PCs and tablets to smart phones. While the app currently doesn't offer much in the way of functionality, the official description is clear enough. Happy days, folks. "The Phone Insider application provides registered Windows Insiders the ability to receive pre-release OS updates on their phone, directly from Microsoft," the app description notes. This is different from the Preview for Developers app, which lets Windows Phone users upgrade to the latest Windows Phone version—currently Windows Phone 8.1 Update 1—…

We all know the frustration that comes with plugging in a USB device. It seems like no matter how hard we try, it can take up to 5 tries to put the stupid thing in and personally I always thought the problem was pebkac (problem exists between the keyboard and the chair for those who don't know). This year at CES, the producers behind USB are making a strong effort to simply this little and useful device. Dubbed USB Type-C or USB 3.1, the group showcased some prototypes with this new device in how it is faster ( up to 10 gbps), stronger, and easier. Much emphasis has been placed on making the port itself sturdier and better able to take more frequent device removal than…

Well many of you have convinced me to switch to IE to avoid the flash and pdf issues I have been experiencing with Chrome, FF, and Pale Moon from time to time only I have an issue that just blows my mind. I cannot complete a purchase on IE. I get all the way to the end, click "submit" and it just sits there. I don't care if its Newegg, Amazon or now it just happened at Staples. I copy and paste the location of the item and then use either Chrome or Pale Moon and it goes right through and it is getting really irritating and it happens on 2 pcs both Windows 7 custom built desktop and Windows 8.1 All-in-One Dell as well. Damn shame someone cannot make a browser that works r…
