  2. Hi! Are you ready for your next disaster?? I think I am?Here's why I think I'm ready. I have the 5 DVD's with back to factory. I have a flash with back to factory. I still have the back to factory hidden partition on my HD. I have created a system live repair CD that will let me boot when windows don't want to boot. Last time I checked, I had 14 back up images of my OS, created with Macrium Reflect on a External HD. The system repair CD will get me to the windows rescue media. I'm sure I'm virus free, but if I ever get so corrupted that I can't remove the infections, I always have a virus free image of my OS I can restore to. At least create the system repair CD when y…

  4. Firefox and Google Chrome have implemented a technology that makes it possible to obtain IP addresses of VPN users. Security researcher Daniel Roesler has posted information on open source hosting site Github, where he explains the issue. The issue is caused by WebRTC, a Google developed open source project that provides browsers with Real-Time Communication (RTC). Both Firefox and Chrome have WebRTC support whereby the technology sends so called “STUN requests” to STUN (Simple Traversal of User Datagram Protocol Through Network Address Translators) servers. Through these requests local and public IP addresses of the user can be obtained using Javascript. This i…

Hi! Not sure where to post this. Please move if needed! Here's a great freeware tool that every PC user should have IMHO. I sure most of you geeks have heard of it, but are you aware of all it can do. It can tell you the condition of your HD as well as give you temps of your hardware. Give it a look. It's free. I just tested my HD. http://www.almico.com/speedfan.php

  7. IMHO you need this extra layer of protection from MBAM. It is fairly new and it works. MBAM has been around for a very longtime and can be trusted. You won't even know it's around. It works great with any Anti-Virus software. http://www.malwarebytes.org/antiexploit/?utm_source=engaged&utm_medium=email-internal-b2c&utm_campaign=EM-january2015newsletter&utm_content=mbae

Microsoft was left alone as the last manufacturer of Windows RT-based tablets, and now the software giant is no longer producing any RT devices. A Microsoft spokesperson has confirmed to The Verge that the company is no longer manufacturing its Nokia Lumia 2520 Windows RT tablet. "We are no longer manufacturing Nokia Lumia 2520; however, those still eager to buy Nokia Lumia 2520 should visit Microsoft Retail Stores, MicrosoftStore.com, third-party retailers and resellers for the latest availability." The confirmation comes just a week after Microsoft revealed it has stopped manufacturing the Surface 2, another Windows RT tablet. While Lenovo, Asus, Samsung, and Dell…

Hello I was under the impression that this update would allow storage to be transferred to the SD card but my "send to SD cars" are as they were before the update; that is they are gray. Only one app was allowed to be transferred. Am I missing something? Thank you

When I press the power button, it shows "no bootable device-Please restart system. Your pc ran into a problem and needs to restart." 1] I changed the Boot order to boot Knoppix but then I get: "Boot Failure: a proper digital signature was not found. One of the files on the selected boot device was rejected by the secure boot feature" then the laptop shuts down. 2] I also see the options to go into safe mode but it doesn't work and the system restarts itself. 3] I tried doing a factory recovery by holding down the 0 key as it suggests here: https://support.toshiba.com/support/viewContentDetail?contentId=2737864 but that does not work with the system rest…

  12. Some of the web's biggest companies have been paying to get around AdBlock Plus, according to a new report from Financial Times. Microsoft's Bing search ads and Taboola's "recommended links" box are among the ads that are currently slipping through AdBlock's filter, and FT confirms that it's the intentional result of a paid deal between the makers of AdBlock and the owners of the ads. According to FT sources, the companies have paid Eyeo (the maker of AdBlock) to be added to an official whitelist, which allows them to bypass the plug-in. Google has a similar deal, as has been previously reported. Eyeo has discussed the whitelist in the past as part of the company's…

I must admit I am not a "crazed music downloader" and in fact never do such things but I know that Security Mods will not work with systems until all P2P downloaders are removed and none of us can guaranty safety when such things are in play. The other day I had a client who is a DJ by trade (but not evidently highly experienced at it as his living standards left me somewhat uncomfortable) and I had to leave a Torrent Downloader in because he said it is the only way he can download music for what he does. I cleaned the system and it was running fine as it had examples of almost every form of Malware and Adware known to man and it was running fine when I left. Withi…

Check this out a built in docking port on the top of this case eliminates the need for a Usb docking port on your desk. And the beauty of it it plugs into a sata port not a usb conversion port without taking the side off the case so it will work more of the time. Say goodbye to a bench machine with this one!!!!! And for the faint at heart it also comes in black though I like the stylish white and this will be my third that I have never dusted not even once! http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811108434 Oh and did I mention free freight? Well of course it is! Write a Review In stock. …

  15. About a month ago, I pulled my Dell Inspiron 17R notebook out of the closet where it has been in the case resting for three years. I planned to wipe and reload it for my granddaughter whose notebook was accidently destroyed by my dog. :help: (She had her notebook plugged into the wall where the cord stretched over the walkway to the hall and Jax tripped over it and sent it flying.) :help:  I figured I owed her a notebook. When I plugged my notebook in and booted it the first thing I saw was a message saying "Battery plugged in but not charging". After going through the usual steps, removing the battery etc. I found a little tip that actually wo…

  16. Far as I am being told by the owner, this unit came with win7 but he upgraded to win8 and now wants to revert back to win7 after he started getting this error message on boot up: "Error: No boot disk has been detected or the disk has failed". So I am attempting to reload win7 now but seems the wireless mouse which came with it is not working, only the wireless KB works. I just tried a wired KB and that works too but not a wired mouse which I need to make the selection to install windows, it's not the USB slots because the KB's work in both slots. I just loaded Knoppix, the mouse works fine in knoppix so I am lost here, any ideas please?

  17. Every Comcast call that ever was or is or will be, pictured above. (Via Thinkstock) Everyone knows that Comcast … struggles with customer service. Now, new evidence has surfaced to suggest that at least one of its employees is also just plain mean. Via Elliott.org, a Spokane, Wash., resident named Lisa Brown claims that, after she called Comcast to cancel her family’s cable, her husband’s name was changed from Ricardo Brown to “Asshole” Brown on her most recent cable provider bill. Not a good look, Comcast. (Via Elliott.org) Brown’s story surfaced in a report from consumer advocate blogger Christopher Elliott: "Brown has tried to fix the name herself," …

  18. Microsoft is planning to support extensions in the successor to its Internet Explorer browser. Currently codenamed Spartan, the new browser will be included as part of Windows 10 across PCs, phones, and tablets. Spartan’s extension support isn’t clear, but Microsoft’s browser development team confirmed the feature on Twitter by noting that "we're working on a plan for extensions for a future update to Project Spartan." Spartan's extensions could look a lot like Chrome's Internet Explorer 11 currently supports add-ons, but they’re not similar to the popular extensions found in Chrome and Firefox. The Verge understands Microsoft is currently testing ways to allow C…

Hey guys, very first time I am coming across this issue, all screws removed from this unit but pulling on the middle plastic insert does not slide the HDD off it's connection? It's almost as if the HDD is glued to the casing as I can't lift off the back it either.

  20. Although Windows dominates the Desktop operating system world, eclipsing Linux, Mac OSX and all others combined, that’s not the case when it comes to web servers, with Linux being the most popular. There are pros and cons for both systems, and the choice depends on your specific requirements. Firstly, what kind of development language or database are you planning to use? Universal languages such as HTML and CSS can be run from either Linux or Windows hosting systems, both can support MySQL databases, while Windows systems can only support Microsoft SQL (MSSQL), and generally the decision comes down to whether you’ll be using PHP or ASP to build your website. Linux s…

Hi guys. My system is currently using an older HD 6950. My power supply is a 500 Watt Corsair model. I have been contemplating getting one of the new GTX 970's but part of my problem is that my case is a small MATX case. I would like to stick with an AMD card but there seems to be no model that will be small enough to fit in this older small case and also be powerful enough to drive a 1440P monitor with good frame rates. Although I would consider upgrading to a larger case if need be, but that is also an extra cost consideration too, and I believe if I used an equivalent AMD GPU like the R9 290X it would require a much better power supply than I have is that right? Any…

  24. Microsoft this week, at its Windows 10 extravaganza in Redmond, announced that Windows 10 will be a free upgrade for users of Windows 7 and Windows 8 systems once the new operating system releases. And, even though Terry Myerson clearly said that the upgrade is free, the details of the statement continue to be parsed out in excruciating and annoying detail. Here again, is exactly what Terry said, and even reiterated later in a blog post: This is more than a one-time upgrade: once a Windows device is upgraded to Windows 10, we will continue to keep it current for the supported lifetime of the device – at no additional charge. Many are spending just too many cycles…

  25. During its press event this week, Microsoft promised that the next Build for Windows 10 would roll out "in the next week." Just an hour or so ago both Joe Belfiore and Gabe Aul started making noise on Twitter that something would happen today, and sure enough. Build 9926 has started its trek toward the waiting PCs of Windows Insiders. Gabe indicated that the new Build is delivering to everyone today, not matter which delivery ring you chose, simply because folks have had to wait so long for a refresh. If you remember, Microsoft took the month of December off and didn't deliver a new Build. Instead, the company released a couple important fixes, one of which is requ…
