  1. There was no other way for this to end — Wites & Kapetan, a law firm in Lighthouse Point, Florida, is officially investigating the Lenovo Superfish adware scandal that has dominated headlines throughout the technology world this week. We’ve written about the adware multiple times already, but this is the first we’re hearing about a potential class action lawsuit. READ MORE: Interview with Lenovo’s CTO will scare anyone still thinking of buying a Lenovo product “If you have an impacted Lenovo laptop or PC, or have information about this issue, please contact Marc A. Wites at Wites & Kapetan, P.A., at 1-866-277-8631 or mwites@wklawyers.com,” the firm writes on…

Is anyone noticing any lag while posting or while browsing the site? I think my problem is Firefox causing my issues since IE is working fine. I just want to make sure what I'm seeing is not a site problem.

Found a nice utility for reading DDR4 timings. It is made by Asrock but works with any motherboard. The download link is from the Asrock site: http://66.226.78.22/downloadsite/utility/Formula/TimingConfigurator(v3.0.5).zip For those who want to go manually the file is Timing Configurator version 3.0.5 The link below is for Win 64 bit but the file is the same for 32 bit. http://www.asrock.com/mb/Intel/X99%20OC%20Formula/index.us.asp?cat=Download&os=Win8a64

  6. With all the recent discussions about the junkware literally infecting new computers it looks like Microsoft is stepping up their game to help Windows 7 users be able to install a clean version of the popular operating system. For several years now PC manufacturers have not been shipping regular Windows installation discs with new computers. What they do instead is either provide a restoral disk, sometimes a restoral partition and at other times the ability to create a set of restoral disks – using your own disks of course. It is great to have those and you should make that one of the first things you create after setting up a new system however, they are flawed as…

I did a full "Emsisoft Emergency" scan for the first time. It detected five suspicious files. The first three are considered "no risk". The next two are questionable? Below is the log.... Once the forum is properly setup there will be a separate forum for software and hopefully hardware reviews. I have done this on every forum I was involved in for years and plan to do it here once everything else is out of the way. Cindy always works with me and I will be looking for other recruits when the time comes as usually I can get a few free copies to do so as long as the reviews go back to the vendor. and Bob sets up the proper vehicle. I am rusty at it so I was practicing with Macrium but the "Recommended Software" sticky that went up this week is a part of that whole picture. We should be recommending and testing various programs old and new I think Bob calle…

Hey I just noticed that if a member is online you will see a blinking green dot on their avatar in posts. I can't remember seeing this before is it new? Got to say either way I like it, nice feature.

I have to take my hat off to this one. Clean, easy update that makes this process so simple a child can do it. As always there is more than one way to make an image file in this program but the main screen is cleaned up so you can easily see how to clone a hard drive, make an image file of restore one effortlessly. Now I am using standard version but everything I am saying applies to the free version as well as the only real difference is the making of incrementals and differentials. I made an image file that is 90 gb in use on a 128 gb hard drive in 16 minutes which is about 10 minutes faster than version 5.0. Even the Rescue Disk, which now defaults to the Windows PE…

  12. Hi I have posted on members profiles, but I don't see very many using that feature. Wondering why it's not being used. I have posted on several profiles, but no response to my posts??? It's a good way to chat without creating a thread. Just wondering as usual!!!;);)

Hi Once again, I'm not sure where this thread belongs. Please move or delete if a thread like this is all ready posted on the forum or is not appropriate !! Hi! I wish I could get this in everyone's head. What a good feeling it is to know you can be back up and running exactly like the day you created the back up image; even if you have to replace your HDD. Sure you can probably restore back to factory and then spend days restoring your Apps. and Windows up dates and possibly drivers. Why not get your PC exactly like you want it and then create a back up image with a 3 rd party software like Macrium Reflect. Do what ever. Live dangerous. Take chances if you want. You really mess up and even get infected . No problem:you just put W PE 3.1 CD(W7) (WPE4) W8 in your DVD drive and restore your OS just like it was the day you cre…

  18. since this is a Tech Support forum i thought it would be nice if people know where to get safe and legal download ISO's for Windows operating systems Windows downloads for all operating systems by Martin Brinkmann at ghacks.net Most Windows PCs ship without installation disc or any other form of physical product that you can use to re-install the system. While you do get options to create recovery discs, it is not the same thing. The same is true when you purchase upgrades online from Microsoft. You don't get a disc anymore unless you purchase it directly, and even if you do, you will notice that some versions of the operating system are not available as physi…

  19. Windows fans have complained about Microsoft’s use of iconography for years. Whether it was the lack of icons to identify key folders on the Windows Vista Start Menu, numerous quirky icons for error messages, or even the mix of modern and old icons in Windows 8 — Microsoft has always failed to fully fix its icon issues. Windows 10 looks like it might finally address concerns over aging iconography, but the new replacements are a startling mix of bright colors and simplicity. Microsoft is preparing to release an updated Windows 10 Technical Preview with a series of updates to the operating system’s iconography. One obvious change is the Recycle Bin icon that sits on …

  20. My daughter was at my house this afternoon when she received a telephone call from someone claiming to be from Microsoft Technical Support. The man on the phone had a foreign accent and identified himself as Amanda. :D He proceeded to explain to her that her computer was infected but that he could take care of it by connecting remotely. She had him on speaker phone. She told him she doesn't use Windows that she has nothing but Apple / Mac because Windows sucks. The scam artist yelled into the phone F$#@ You and hung up on her. AND That's how she handled it. :big_ha:

  21. well it seems that Lavasoft Ad-Aware was playing around with Superfish also from the Lavasoft facebook page https://www.facebook.com/lavasoft.adaware A great deal of attention has been given to recent event surrounding Superfish and Lenovo, and the resulting security vulnerability that has been exposed in a Komodia, a sub-component of Superfish’s product. Lavasoft takes security issues very seriously, and would like to take a moment to explain to its users who are naturally concerned by the overlap between Lavasoft and Komodia. Background and Recent Events: • Komodia delivers a collection of utility SDKs for scanning and intercepting internet traffic on a…

  22. Hi This started on 2/22/2015. When I restart my PC, I got a pop up saying ! Microsoft Mouse and Keyboard Center Stopped Working. Also shows in my Reliability Monitor. I have uninstalled version 2.2.173.0 and reinstalled it on W7 as was suggested. I still get the pop up after restarting. Mouse and Keyboard are both working. I have a Toshiba lap top. My mouse is a Logitech wireless mouse. I have changed USB ports. Uninstalled and reinstalled the program and I still get the pop up. I don't want to restore to a earlier time, unless I have to. Could this be a windows up date problem? Thank you!! All suggestions are appreciated. I don't have a clue what to do!! The only thin…

  23. Download.com and Others Bundle Superfish-Style HTTPS Breaking Adware from How To Geek It’s a scary time to be a Windows user. Lenovo was bundling HTTPS-hijacking Superfish adware, Comodo ships with an even worse security hole called PrivDog,and dozens of other apps like LavaSoft are doing the same. It’s really bad, but if you want your encrypted web sessions to be hijacked just head to CNET Downloads or any freeware site, because they are all bundling HTTPS-breaking adware now. The Superfish fiasco began when researchers noticed that Superfish, bundled on Lenovo computers, was installing a fake root certificate into Windows that essentially hijacks all HTTPS browsin…

As an experiment i uninstalled Paltalk using the "Wise Program Uninstaller". I then went to "Revo Uninstaller Pro" & under "Forced Uninstall" i typed "Paltalk". After a while Revo displayed many remnants of paltalk that i thought the wise program should have removed? Any comments concerning the above?
