How can anyone visiting here for the first time have *any* idea that they will receive good ........ or bad .......... advice? I thought at first that the TechNet Communities must be monitored by Microsoft staff and therefore be relatively safe. I'm still not sure about that. Having come here (for ease of use, on someone's advice) it appears that *no* such protection applies and that it really is a 'free-for-all' and is, quite likely, a dangerous place to visit. This may not have always been so - and I do wish to stress that I HAVE received some excellent and helpful advice, much of which has enabled me to help myself more and better understand my PC a…

I am currently running XP MCE SP2 without any problems at all. AMD 64bit 3200, 2 GB RAM, nVidia 6600 GT Video, 250 GB SATA HD. Hauppauge tuner card. Vista upgrade advisor says everything is supported and all device and apps are fine. My typical work is in SQL Server 2005, VStudio 2005 and Office 2007. I use Media Centre occasionally. I am wondering if it is actually worth upgrading to Ultimate. I have read about a lot of issues... it doesn't seem that many peole are very happy with Vista. Any feedback?

As we all know Intel has always been desperate to have Apple as a customer. Apple was just too demanding in the past for Intel to measure up, but now Intel has learned to work at the level of Apple and has again built a chip exactly to Apple's specifications. The MacBook Air is the first to have this fast, super low temp chip. Apple correctly says it's the world's thinnest Laptop, but they don't mention it's also the world's coolest running. A good read: You may have wondered how it is possible that the MacBook Air is getting a new Intel microprocessor - a processor that is so new that it has not been available for any other product. We actually hav…

Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer has admitted that Windows Vista is an incomplete product, even though the operating system has been on the market for more than a year. Speaking at the firm's annual Most Valuable Professionals event in Seattle yesterday, Big Steve told the gathered crowd that the unloved OS was "a work in progress". According to reports, he also promised that Microsoft would learn from the mistakes it has made with Vista.

The Mojave experiment was no less than MICROSOFT PROPAGANDA of the worst kind!!! I find it INSULTING and DEGRADING of my INTELLIGENCE! Who do you think you are Microsoft, claiming that my perception of vista is not VALID? Let me tell you what a correct Vista experiment would be like: STEP 1) Buy people a computer such as the microsoft sites calls a RECOMMENDED configuration for vista along with a new copy of Vista ultimate or home premium: 1 GHz 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor 1 GB of system memory 40 GB hard drive with at least 15 GB of available space Support for DirectX 9 graphics with: WDDM Driver …

I have a Dell Dimension 8200 with XP, SP2 with AVG, A-Squared, Spybot and Comodo with DSL connection. I haven't done anything or added anything but today when I logged on the computer it was unusually slow even with only (1) program running. I thought perhaps I might have picked up a virus or malware so I ran Spybot and it came out clean. I then checked Microsoft Updates to see if any new updates were there but it just seemed to hang up and did nothing although the Task Manager said it was running. I then started to run AVG and checked to see if were any updates but it failed each time I tried to update it. I thought maybe they have a newer version so I delet…

Most people hate the ribbon because it makes using the program slower, more confusing and takes up too much screen space. Now they want to use this horrible concept on more stuff...in windows 7. MS still hasnt understood how bad the ribbon design really is! lol... Most first time users didnt even know that the "jewel" was a button!!! They have the nerve to call the better proven way "old"... !? ubuntu is looking better every day MS, keep this up and you will lose big time! see link about what im talking about... http://www.istartedsomething.com/20080322/ribbon-in-windows-7-application-near-you/

Well, I hang around these newsgroups just to read and learn about problems I might run into with Vista to help myself and others. By no means am I an expert, so far the only problem I have run into with Vista on my laptop is IE freezes occasionally and has to be restarted once every few days. Not too bad in my opinion considering it does the same thing occasionally on my wife's laptop running XP Pro, both are Dell E1505's. I upgraded mine to Ultimate myself and I will admit that Vista with 2GB's ram, mine, is a tad slower than hers with only 1 GB ram running XP Pro. I would agree that some of the MVP's on here are very defensive when answering some questi…

" Some Linux users are easily dazzled by superfluous and completely useless effects (wobbly windows, blatant overuse of transparency, etc.) and assume that it must be better than Mac OS X because it's so cosmetically made-up and then there are others who only need the Terminal and can keep…

If you are not happy with Vista, lets have a Vista free day. Vista free day is simple. Wednesday April 2nd, make sure your Vista PC is powered off all day. Shut it down on Tuesday, and power it back on Thursday. If enough people do it, MS might notice and allow use free downgrades. It would actually be quite simple for MS to allow Vista keys to work with a downgrade copy of XP. And better yet, allow us to download it at no charge instead of double dipping us. Join me on turning my Vista off for a day. Pass this along...

This group used be to awful to look at for me, mainly thanks to moron Kepan815 and other idiotic posts relating to the idiots choice of operating systems, namely 'Ubuntu' After choosing a few message rules automatically deleting all posts from moron Kevpan and all of his aliases, all messages containing Ubuntu', 'Linux' 'FYI' etc I now see only sensible posts, not the rantings of this cretin and hi mates. Not trying to be clever here, just a word to let anyone uninformed that blocking out the crap from Kevpan Cretin can be done easily. Regards, Alan.

Microsoft has had to allow PC manufacturers to continue to sell XP on new PCs, setting a deadline for the last sale at January 31. However, the pressure from manufacturers and consumers has been so great that Microsoft has been forced to extend the deadline another five months, until June.

Greetings from (old) Europe It's in a way very strange from this side of the Atlantic ocean to see how people are insulting each other (Kevin is an idiot, Bill is a blockhead, Tom is a paranoiac of a kind or something else, and so on Vista is a bucket of crap...) As far as I am concerned, I did not come across any serious issue with Vista that could not find quickly a solution. My question is: why such a fuss against Vista? It may not be the best OS in the world (which one is?) but it works. Do the guys yelling that Vista is a pile of crap, bother to tweak around and fix their machines? Honestly, it's a mystery to me. I'm not a Bill G.'s fan, but to spea…

I have a Gateway computer with the following: 1) a 1400-MHz Pentium 4 processor, 2) 256 MB of RAM, and 3) 40 GB of hard-drive space. The computer is running Windows Millennium Edition (ME). A month ago, I bought a Brother MFC-240C printer. This is a multifunction device: printer, copier, fax, and scanner. Recently, my "starter" yellow-ink cartridge ran out of ink, and one other cartridge is about to do the same. At the Best Buy store where I bought the printer, Brother cartridges are sold for $13.50 each. I believe that these are the LC51B, LC51Y, LC51C, and LC51M cartridges. Well, I have discovered the website known as http://www.ink4less.com This …
