I've been a rather vocal critic of WLM and more so with Vista's Windows Mail. I still would not recommend WM, but WLM has made some definite improvements. Since I typically use Outlook for email, my biggest use for WLM is newsgroups. The overall performance has improved dramatically. Thank you. I've been using Thunderbird, but I may switch back to WLM. Just one thing, for now, I sure do wish there was an easy way to collapse the header bar like in Thunderbird... that's a big chunk of screen space taken up that could be devoted to the message I'm reading. Is there a way to get rid of it or make it smaller? -Michael

My new business strategy for Microsoft is to go completely open source. Because most of the software developers will stop developing for Microsoft by 2008 I think that this would be a very good idea. You could let the Open Source community develop your operating system and worry about making quality software and making sure you had plenty of hardware support. You would notice an increase in profit because no one likes Vista. Everyone is either sticking with XP, moving to Mac, or Moving to Linux. I know you can spend 7 years waiting for things to go in your favor but why not start fresh now.

Can we keep Vista healthy enough, after years of use, to keep running optimally by cleaning, defragging etc. without needing to format/re-install Vista? Seems that was the norm under Win 98 but is frowned upon in Xp and Vista. Trying to see if I'm reading ya'll correctly. -- Windows Vista Home Premium 64-BIT SP1 Intel Core 2 Duo CPU T5550 @ 1.83GHz 4.00 GB RAM 300 GB HDD

I've never seen a discussion group like this one? I know threads break down and take a turn but I've never seen so many people in my kill file in such a short time. Hardly any help is offered here just a bunch of people saying this and that about each other, or defending Ubuntu in a windows group? Truely sad. Rich

I want to keep XP on my computer, but would still like to run Vista. I have run the compatibility check and only my scanner won't work in Vista (supposedly). How do I install Vista so I can dual boot. And how can I eventually remove XP once I am sure I want to stick with Vista?

Just a little info. Be careful of today's Microsoft Updates on machines that are using Zone Alarm Free ( Version 7.0.462 ) after rebooting the Zone Alarm client will block almost every web access with an alert. Still investigating and trying the newer 7.0.473 version to see if it will rectify the situation.

I have a new computer that has Windows XP software loaded on it. The computer includes a floppy drive (A drive) and a read/write CD/DVD player in it. I also have a copy of Acronis 7 backup software that I previously used on my old Windows 98SE system. Now, for my questions: Is Acronis 7 compatible with a Windows XP machine? I think, based on my research on the Web, that it is compatible. The newer version 11 seems to have many new whistles and bells included in the software, but I don't think I would ever use any of this expanded capability. Secondly, is it better to have my backups on my hard drive (E Drive) or separate CDs? What are the pros and…

And when I say Vista bashers, I mean those who say it's a piece of crap, it's gonna die because Win 7 is coming out, it can't beat Linux, etc. I'm not referring to those who have legitimate Vista issues and are trying to fix them and/or are wondering if maybe the bashers have a point. Someone I know is looking for a new computer. He went to the Dell site. Dell is selling two or three Linux machines. It's also selling machines for people who want to stick with XP. But this person tells me the configuration of the XP computers is limited compared to what you can get with Vista. The choices of extras are limited with Dell's XP boxes. My question: If Vista…

Repost from archives: Vista - XP cpu usage comparison A survey in December by US IT services company Softchoice claimed that Vista will be the most power-hungry Windows desktop so far. The report claimed that at Windows XP's launch, for example, the minimum CPU requirements were 75 percent greater than those for the operating system it replaced, Windows 2000. Vista's minimum CPU requirements are 243 percent larger than that of XP. http://www.zdnet.com.au/news/software/soa/Microsoft_goes_on_green_Vista_offensive/0,130061733,339274460,00.htm

Microsoft announced today that Vista's Service Pack 1 would now give all pirate copies of Vista a free upgrade to full authentication. When asked about it at the big AIDS conference lately, Bill replied, "Hey, I'm just a generous guy!" Devastating as this was to the it's competitors, Ubuntu developers announced they would pay anyone installing their OS a dollar. -- :/ Mark L. Ferguson ..

If you folks keep bitching and fighting instead of fighting malware I'm going to go away. I am trying to contribute useful information from my work in the field, but I'll be damned if I'm going to continue here if 3/4 of the stuff is people bitching at each other over perceived slights. I have no time for it.

Why am I seeing over 300 duplicated posts in this NG!? It seems the first post in many threads are showing the initial post TWICE. In some case, entire thread segments are duplicated. My inclination is to reset the NG. But I must go now-- no time to even investigate! The posts are identical, but their Properties are different. Here is an example. Can the posts be coming into this NG (I am connected directly to the MS Server) from two different sources? Why do the dates seem to indicate different time zones?
