Really! No freezes, faults, crashes, breakdowns. Everything works perfectly including my old custom stuff from W95 days. Speed is about the same as XP. Vista repairs itself, defrags the drive, protects my work, solves problems on its own. The sidebar has seriously useful gadgets that make life easier. Files and folders are now easier to find, in any of several ways. I came by looking for more joy, gadgets, exploitation stories, and high fives -- and learned that people happy with Vista don't waste time here. That leaves the rest...

there is vista ultimate: costs a load of money and there is ubuntu ultimate 1.4 http://linuxtracker.org/torrents-details.php?id=4323 this version rocks! I downloaded the virtual appliance for vmware and gave it a spin... The thought is.. if you are going to run in 1000's problems with vista, why not take the plunge and use ubuntu instead?... IF vista was better I would never be saying this.. but vista is a flop of historical proportions!!! Its horrible! from a site: Ubuntu Ultimate 1.4 has been released and has a new thing in store for you. Unlike any linux ever released this allows you to "build your os" from a CD. Like linux you will love this... Wi…

Would you really trust a product riddled with so many security vulnerabilities? How many Ubuntu vulnerabilities have not yet been discovered? Beware, not for the faint of heart, this list is huge: http://www.ubuntu.com/usn Marco

The ODF vs OOXML debates. Market Share. So if you want to be on the losing team, go with Linux. At least you can say Linux is consistent. After 10+ years it still is hovering …

I read in another post something about speeding up hard drives, or access to the read write cycles. I have 2 drives installed on My Windows 7 64 bit machine. I have a Gigabyte MB with a dual core Intel 3 gig processor. I don't understand a whole lot about IEDE modes and some of the settings I have seen seem to be missing or just not available. The drives are both 7200 RPM, one is a 500 Gig (Primary) and the other is a 1 TB. Is there a method of speeding up the access/read/write of these drives?

So much for Linux (Ubuntu) being bullet proof. Ubuntu servers hijacked. Used to launch attack. http://www.eweek.com/article2/0,1895,2171318,00.asp People have been saying right along that ***ALL*** operating systems are vulnerable! -- Regards, Richard Urban Microsoft MVP Windows Shell/User (For email, remove the obvious from my address)

http://windowssecrets.com/comp/070913/#story1 By Scott Dunn Microsoft has begun patching files on Windows XP and Vista without users' knowledge, even when the users have turned off auto-updates. Many companies require testing of patches before they are widely installed, and businesses in this situation are objecting to the stealth patching. Files changed with no notice to users In recent days, Windows Update (WU) started altering files on users' systems without displaying any dialog box to request permission. The only files that have been reportedly altered to date are nine small executables on XP and nine on Vista that are used by WU itself. Mi…

It just doesn't work. Not even for simple jobs. I just wasted fifteen minutes trying to delete a few thousand files. Using the next to useless Windows Explorer (I known, silly me) I selected the folder and said delete it. It started up, after a few seconds instead of showing it making progress it says moving 0 files with 0 bytes. OK, I think it's done or almost. After all, how long should it take to just delete files? Well it wasn't done, it hadn't even started yet. So I wait. And wait some more. What the heck, I got other things to do, I'll come back. Five minutes later, stuck on 0 bytes moved. So I click on Explorer. Bad idea, screen now fades to white, applica…

Hi People, I have been a computer engineer for around 7 years professionally with around 7 years prior to that self teaching myself all I could about Windows. I am now MCP qualified and hopefully will soon be MCSA/MCSE/MCDBA/CCNA qualified as well. I have used Vista only a couple of times although getting a very bad feeling about it having read many bad things and experiencing some worrying things like it takes more time for vista to spawn and animate the copying file dialog then it does for say windows xp to even have copied the file already. this is only minor though. Today one of my customers who has a vista machine (I dont) got in touch sayi…

Shall we say that the truth is finally shining? Shall we say "I was telling you so"? Shall we say that I was explaining to the fanboys that everyones Vista out and XP in? Keep reading! http://crn.com/digital-home/201805832?cid=microsoftFeed By Steven Burke, CMP Channel 12:00 AM EDT Mon. Sep. 17, 2007 From the September 17, 2007 issue of CRN Digital home integrators say Microsoft's Windows Vista operating system has been a big fat bust in the home market. That bleak Vista view, however, has translated into healthy profits for home integrators ripping Vista off systems and replacing the much-ballyhooed operating system with Windows XP. Microsoft, for…

http://www.neowin.net/news/main/08/05/30/microsoft-taking-official-petitions-to-keep-xp If you can remember back a few weeks, Steve Ballmer went on record saying that Microsoft would consider extending the life of Windows XP if enough people asked for it. Afterall, many people don't want to upgrade to Windows Vista because they are perfectly content with XP. The problem was there was no way to ask for it. Sure, you could sign one of the many online petitions, but Microsoft considers those "non-official complaints" and the rest of us simply consider them silly. Well, word has been passed down to the tech support teams (and then on to Neowin) that they a…

I would just like to know how you LinTards manage to sleep at night knowing that less than a year ago you were predicting the imminent failure of Microsoft and the rise of Linux as the new standard on the PC desktop. Linux is free. Windows is not. Linux has been free for a long time while Microsoft stagnated with Windows XP. Linux is free. Microsoft released a bomb called Windows ME. Linux is free. Microsoft has released a controversial to some (IOW not too good) operating system called Vista. Linux is free, So why the hell is Linux's desktop useage hovering around 1 percent? Why does Microsoft still have 95 to 98 percent of the market? After all, Linux is free. Free is a good thing except when what you are getting for free isn't so good afterall. How many people know or know of people who have downloaded Linux, tried Linux and then just as quickly dumped Linux a…

Thank you everyone! I really appreciate you sticking with me through this. Someone sent me the 3 DLL files I was missing. I installed them and was able to run the repair tool for IE6SP1. But that didn't help. I cleaned up my startup items with help from the group. I deleted a lot of unnecessary files. I download IE6sp1 zip from an e-mail and Gary walked my through the overinstall. I follow your advice on just about every post. Forgive me for not answering all but we spent about 24 hours just going through this. This is my third day and we are finally fixed. I think what did it is I removed my firewall.....'Trial of Transgressions'....I think that was the name. and …
