Hello I am a systems administrator with 20 years experience. Administered Windows desktops and severs with Unix and Linux. Brief experience with Novell too. I have over a decades experience with Samba. At a previous employer, there were Windows Severs, but was not responsible for administering those boxes. One of the accounting packages which will be used is not supported by Linux using Samba and as such have started to work on deploying at Windows Server box at one of my locations. Doing a new install. I had no problems with Windows 2008 server up until I played around with Active Directory in an effort to get user home directories. I am going to look aroun…

I'll be first to introduce myself to anyone that happens along. My name is Bob Schwarz and I am the owner of this community as well as a few other which are all a part of Schwarz Network. I am an avid Microsoft supporter and also a beta tester of Microsoft software. I like to be on the bleeding edge so I will run the betas as my main software. In doing so I learn a lot. I will use Microsoft Help Forums to share that knowledge and help people.

Hi, Courtney from OutboundMusic.com here. We've just upgraded from our windows 2003 server to 2008. We're music broadcasters, and I refer to the file details often. On the 2003 server, details such as "duration" were showing on the files, but even though I am checking the box for those to show, they aren't showing on 2008. The file is the same, so I know that property is included in the file information. I'm sure it's a simple solution, but I can't figure out how to make my necessary file details show. Does anyone out there know what I need to do?

I always feel as though these things are like an AA meeting :) So with that ... Hi, I'm Andy, and I'm a Windows user. (I do try to quit, but it never quite works out.) I've been in IT for longer than I can remember, but I'm finally starting to take more than a passing interest in the Windows Server side of things, specifically 2008 R2, which I'm using the rather nice 180-day trial of right now. I've got some experience of Windows Server 2003 Standard, but only really in a workgroup environment. I've managed to get 2008 R2 configured in a test domain environment with little to no trouble, but I know I'm going to be running into problems, and this site seems lik…

I am in the small business network environment. Typical customers range from 3 computers to 20. I use several Windows OS installations for servers - frm WinXP to Server 2008. I have installed two dual server environments (I am working on the third right now), and I have done network design for about 6 new construction installations. I install unmanaged network environments. I am mostly self taught, and I love to tweak my own backup programs that will run with batch files during non-peak times. Someday soon, I will fade into retirement, and try to enjoy life without as much stress. Meanwhile, I am plugging away until that day of full social security benefits.

I just turned 71 years old and still have a lot to learn. I have 4 operating computers in the house, one with XP Pro, two with Vista and one with Windows 7 Pro. They are loaded with Microsoft Office 2003/2007 and OpenOffice.org. My goal is to learn enough about WHS to convert the XP unit (two 500 gig disks) into a server. I am semi-retired, doing a little consulting for the company from which I retired. Been in computers since Apple III, but I only learn enough to accomplish whatever I am working on. Maintain a few websites for friends and customers (Expression Web). Help administer a small size (2700 members) vBulletin forum. Also considering starting my own forum and ha…
